Chapter 92 Orpheus (48)
In the simple room, which was almost like a prison cell, the girl sat upright on a stone bench, her eyes slightly closed and motionless.
The bean soup on the table in front of her had gone cold, and the bread and cheese were untouched.
"She hasn't eaten or drunk anything for days... Does this girl really not need to eat? Do you guys have some kind of magic that lets you be full without eating?"
Logan peered through the narrow observation hole, then hunched over to look at Mirad. "She claims to be the princess of Petro? Does she not know how to use a spoon? Wow, this is a bit too slave-like. Maybe we should go for something more feudal."
“I confirmed with the refugees in Petro, and their country does indeed have a princess who lives in seclusion in a palace all day long… I heard that because she wants to dedicate herself to the god she believes in, the princess has never shown her face in public since birth,”
Mirad frowned. "That kind of magic does exist, but it can only fill the hunger. The magic power consumed to maintain the magic will still be lost in reality. It's essentially just self-deception... If this continues, she will faint from malnutrition."
"Hehe! What are you two good children talking about... Want some wine? It's some good stuff from Dionysus's place, I brought it back while those drunkards were passed out."
The burly bishop with a full white beard approached silently from behind, startling Logan.
"Damn it, old man! Can you please not do that next time? It's terrifying!"
Mirad stared at the lead goblet in the bishop's hand, the dark red liquid swirling within. "Bishop Patrice," he said, "I must remind you that theft is a grave crime, and alcoholism is not something His Holiness the Lord encourages. As a bishop of the Church of His Holiness, you should set a better example."
"These are all the fine wines I brought back for you! Mirad, how can you be so ungrateful!"
The bishop's eyes widened, feeling deeply betrayed. "I'm not one of those drunkards who worship Lord Bacchus; I won't let my noble reason be clouded by drunkenness. Besides, this wine was a gift they offered me... Taking back a gift, how can that be considered stealing?"
“Milard doesn’t drink, and I don’t like the sourness of wine…and I’ve said it so many times, lead cups are really no good! But, to be honest, it’s just that you’re craving it, old man.” Logan crossed his arms. “After you finish drinking, remember to cast your usual antidote spell…hopefully that stuff works for lead poisoning.”
No amount of persuasion could stop him; even if his cup was confiscated, he would somehow manage to pull out a new one from somewhere.
Logan was too lazy to try to persuade him anymore.
At first, Logan was surprised to learn that the old bishop had been drinking wine from lead cups for decades and was still full of energy, and even had the leisure to exclaim that the Cretean physique was terrifyingly invincible. Now, however, he had long since become accustomed to this behavior.
"So, lady, what should we do?"
"Intervention is needed...at least to figure out why she's not eating or drinking right now."
Mirad whispered, "Considering her identity and habits, we should send a friendly and approachable personal agent who can also stop her before she can harm anyone... Why are you looking at me like that?"
"You've been introducing yourself for so long, who else should I look at?"
Logan put his hand on Mirand's shoulder, unable to suppress his laughter. "Dude, you're the epitome of a classic hero. You could walk down the street and easily complete dozens of side quests. I think this arduous task is best left to you."
"...I think you are also very suitable for this job."
Mirad hesitated for a moment, then shook his head in refusal.
Instead of wasting time helping the young lady adapt to ordinary life, it would be better to train her a few more times or do something for those who really need it.
"You mean Ryan and Chloe? They've gone to maintain the new shipping lanes and can't get away for the time being."
Oh, I almost forgot.
The two trustworthy and courageous seniors went out early in the morning to participate in a mission.
"What are you still refusing for? Is this still the Mirad I know? Someone needs your help!"
Logan kicked the door open and shoved Mirand inside.
"Just like you helped me back then, let that girl integrate into Cretia and emerge from the shadow of her homeland's destruction!"
"..."
The girl, who had been resting with her eyes closed, pretending not to hear the commotion outside, finally opened them and met Mirad's gaze. Very beautiful eyes.
This was the first thought that popped into Mirad's mind.
Her pupils were a clear, bright white, like a pure, unblemished white lily.
"I can use a spoon."
These were her first words after checking into this simple room.
As if to emphasize this fact, she rolled up her sleeves and solemnly picked up the soup spoon, scooped out a spoonful of cold bean soup, and even brought the spoon close to Mirad's eyes so that he could see it clearly.
She put the bean soup in her mouth, and her expression didn't change much throughout the whole process.
"I'm not eating because I'm not hungry."
"Not feeling hungry doesn't mean your body doesn't need food... Sometimes you can't even feel hunger when you're extremely hungry,"
Mirad coaxed, "You still have to eat... Can you tell me your name? It's one thing to get it from intelligence, but it's another to hear it from you yourself."
From behind came Logan's affected gagging and the old man's low chuckle.
The stone wall rose up, blocking the view of the two idle fellows.
That's much better.
“Orpheus. I allow you to call me Orpheus, you blondie.”
The girl who called herself Orpheus tilted her head and stared at the stone wall, her expression indifferent. "Why are you keeping them outside? Are you the kind of person who gets embarrassed when people stare at you when you try to talk to them?"
Mirand tried to soften the lines of her face, to return to the way she usually looked when playing games with the children, but the smile she forced was still frozen on her face.
"If I answer this question, will you eat your food obediently?"
"I will consider."
"I guess so. You probably aren't used to being watched by others, are you? I see your body is trembling slightly."
From the moment Mirad entered, Orpheus's body trembled slightly, almost imperceptibly, whether from fear or discomfort.
If this princess has lived in the palace since birth, it's perfectly normal that she's not good at socializing and doesn't know how to deal with other people's stares.
"Because I showed discomfort, you blocked the bearded man and the gray-haired man's view... Blonde guy, are men like you very popular with other women?"
Orpheus licked the remaining bean soup off the spoon, then broke up some bread and dipped it in the bean soup to eat.
Mirad breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she was finally willing to eat.
As for that question...
Mirad's gaze lingered for a moment before he answered honestly.
"I guess you could say I'm quite popular. By the way, my name is Mirad, the gray-haired guy you mentioned is Logan, and the bearded guy is Bishop Patrice."
Upon hearing this, Orpheus raised her eyelids and carefully examined him.
Her clear eyes held a scrutinizing gaze, as if appraising an item, before she nodded with satisfaction, her tone flat and matter-of-fact.
"I don't like them, I prefer you. You will be my servant and take care of my daily needs."
