Chapter 75 Canyon Ambush
Chapter 75 Canyon Ambush
Sam's eyes gleamed with greed and adventure. His voice was lower, but even more excited: "So, I'm planning to pull off this big heist and then take the brothers and fly away! How about it, Cardo, want to come along? Then, all the supplies in this convoy, and 'Little Robert' and his crew's belongings... will all be ours!"
Upon hearing this, Kaldo's pupils contracted slightly, and he struggled violently within himself.
Because of a conflict in a previous transaction, he offended Kuriti Dogpaw, one of the four leaders, and since then he has been suppressed in the Wild Dog Market. When exchanging goods, he is always maliciously undercut, and Kuriti often causes trouble for him for various reasons.
Lately, unless absolutely necessary, he has no desire to go to the stray dog market and have to put up with people's attitudes.
The temptation to seek refuge in a new market that would accept them and to monopolize this enormous piece of meat was simply too great.
The hesitation in his eyes was gradually replaced by ruthlessness, and he finally nodded heavily, squeezing out a single word through gritted teeth: "Do it!"
Kruse was completely unaware that he was on his ally's conspiracy list; all his attention was focused on the entrance to the canyon.
As the blurry black line on the distant horizon gradually became clearer, finally revealing the winding outline of the convoy, he immediately made a gesture and quickly retreated to his concealed position behind the rocks.
"Everyone, get ready!" His deep, clear voice carried through the ambush area.
Upon hearing the command, Aidin, who was not far away, immediately felled a simple gray flag stuck in the bushes—this was a pre-arranged signal to inform Kaldor's men on the other side that the fish had been caught.
Time passed slowly in the suffocating silence, each second seemingly stretched out.
About half an hour later, the convoy slowly entered the narrow valley, accompanied by the sound of horses' hooves rolling over gravel, the creaking of axles, and the faint sound of conversation.
The lead guard, knight Doron, sat astride his warhorse, his expression relaxed, even carrying a hint of victorious languor. He was turning his head to speak loudly and laughing to his second-in-command beside him, his voice echoing faintly through the rock walls:
"That brat from Lion Fang Territory, what's his name, Kruze? Hmph, I bet even if he inherits the territory, he'll be a coward! We confiscated so much stuff from him, and he didn't dare utter a single word, even politely seeing us off? He's completely disgraced his father, the 'Lion Knight'! This kind of trash only deserves to..."
His sarcastic remarks were not finished.
"put!"
Kruze's icy voice, like a death knell, suddenly rang out from the cliff!
The next instant, a deafening rumble echoed from the hillsides on both sides of the canyon!
Dozens of rocks of varying sizes, which had been prepared beforehand, were pushed down the steep slope by the ambushers using crowbars!
They tumbled and leaped with tremendous force, crashing madly into the convoy below!
"Enemy attack!!" Doron's roar instantly changed, filled with utter terror!
But the warning came too late!
A massive boulder fell from the sky! A millstone-sized boulder struck a wagon loaded with heavy crates with pinpoint accuracy. Accompanied by the terrifying crack of breaking wood and the mournful neighing of warhorses, the wagon was instantly smashed to pieces, with fragments and cargo flying everywhere. Another boulder directly smashed a panicked soldier, shield and all, into a bloody pulp.
In an instant, the once orderly convoy was plunged into utter panic and chaos! Horses were startled, rearing up and neighing, charging wildly; soldiers scattered in terror, searching for pitiful cover; painful howls, terrified screams, officers' desperate but unheard commands, and the rumble of rolling stones intertwined, creating a symphony of death!
"kill!"
Without hesitation, Kruze drew his knight's sword from his waist, its blade pointing directly at the chaotic convoy below, and roared an attack! "For the Horde!" Aidin roared, raising his iron sword and leading the charge down the eastern slope after Kruze. His knights and militia behind him roared in response, pouring down like a flood.
Almost simultaneously, deafening battle cries also erupted from the west.
Kaldor and his henchmen pounced on the convoy like hungry wolves, instantly forming a pincer movement against it!
The battle instantly entered its most brutal and intense phase.
With a clear objective, Kruze charged straight at Doron, who had just been spouting nonsense. Doron, who had just awkwardly dodged a flying piece of gravel, saw Kruze rushing towards him and his astonishment instantly turned into fury: "Who are you people?"
"It's your grandpa!" Kruze shouted back, his knight's sword slicing through the air with a sharp aura of battle, a powerful slash aimed straight at Doron's face!
Doron hastily raised his sword to parry!
clang--!
A deafening clang of metal clashing rang out! Doron felt an immense force, far beyond his imagination, emanating from the sword, so powerful that his hands went numb and his warhorse involuntarily neighed and took two steps back!
"Bronze Knights?! How is this possible?!" Doron's eyes were filled with disbelief and shock. When did these refugees become so powerful that they could produce Bronze Knights so easily?
He glanced to the other side instinctively, and saw that the other three bronze knights in the group had already been stopped.
Four bronze knights.
"You dare to be distracted during a battle!" Kruze's face revealed a cold sneer, and his offensive unfolded like a storm. Coupled with the sharpness of the sword in his hand, he instantly suppressed Doron to the point that he could only parry and had no power to fight back.
On the other side, Wilstone, like a tiger among sheep, displayed the formidable strength of a Silver Knight.
He didn't even bother with the other bronze knight, but instead focused on eliminating the apprentice knights and soldiers who were trying to form a defensive formation.
With each flash of his sword, a spray of blood inevitably followed, efficiently and ruthlessly dismantling the convoy's remaining resistance.
Cooper and his group of refugees displayed their fearlessness, forming groups of three to specifically target lone soldiers, using either crude weapons or sharp bone spears to frantically plunder lives and seize spoils.
As the tide of victory rapidly turned, Kaldor and Sam, as planned, engaged the other two Bronze Knights in battle.
The bloody battle in the canyon did not last long.
With Wilstone's absolute strength as a Silver Knight, he swiftly killed Doron's second-in-command and wiped out the remaining stubborn apprentice knights one by one, the situation on the battlefield became clear.
The guard leader, Doron, already had several wounds. Seeing that the situation was hopeless, he let out a furious roar of resentment.
In his confrontation with Kruse, he feigned exhaustion and retreat, creating an opening to lure the inexperienced Kruse into a reckless pursuit. He then seized this fleeting opportunity, unleashing his fighting spirit to forcefully break through an opening, and without looking back, he spurred his horse and fled desperately towards the other side of the canyon!
