Chapter 194 Harry, the Choice is Yours
"No—! What are you doing? Stop!"
In the blink of an eye, the rat, Spotted, had been bitten until it bled by the big black dog.
Ron's expression changed instantly.
But at that very moment, Li Wei waved his wand.
Two transparent waves of magical energy landed precisely on the dog and the rat—and then, their Animagos were forced to break free of their transformation by an irresistible force.
To everyone's horror, the big black dog's body rapidly reshaped into a disheveled man with wild eyes—the rat, which had been pinned down by the last deformed paw, also underwent an astonishing transformation.
Its squeaks turned into terrified howls, and its body swelled up as if it were being inflated!
This person was very short, not even much taller than Harry and Hermione who were present.
His thin, light-colored hair was disheveled, and there was a large bald patch on the top of his head. He looked like an obese person who had lost a lot of weight, and his skin drooped and clung to his flesh like wrinkles.
What made Ron almost faint on the spot was that the man's skin was very dirty, almost like mottled fur, and his pointed nose and watery little eyes had the characteristics of a rat!
His pet, which had been with him for ten years, turned out to be a disgusting, greasy old man in disguise.
Ron was unable to accept it and felt a deep sense of despair.
Are the aftereffects of the Dementors kicking in again?
Otherwise, why would he feel like he'll never be happy again?
After the dog and the rat appeared, the scene fell into dead silence.
Another person walked into the infirmary—it was Lu Ping.
"Hello, Peter, it's been a long time."
"Little...Sirius...Lu...Lupin..."
Peter Pettigrew's voice is also high-pitched.
His eyes darted quickly toward the door, but upon seeing Dumbledore behind him, he felt a mixture of despair and relief—at least with Dumbledore there, his life shouldn't be in danger.
“My friends…my old friends…”
Peter Pettigrew's head was still covered in blood, making him look pitiful, but no one at the scene felt sorry for him.
"He's still alive?"
Professor McGonagall gasped and looked at Dumbledore—how could Peter Pettigrew, the legendary hero who died protecting Muggles and was awarded the Order of Merlin, be here?
A bad feeling immediately arose in her mind—Professor McGonagall didn't even have time to pay attention to Sirius Black, the wanted criminal standing to the side.
Clearly, there's more to this story than meets the eye.
"Harry—come here!"
Harry was surprised that the man who was actually a black dog called his name even though the adults were all there—he had been staring at the man's face from the beginning—he knew who he was!
Unlike Ron, Harry didn't feel disgusted when faced with the man who was actually the big black dog that had been with him for a month—he simply turned his head and subconsciously looked at Levi—unaware of the gaze that Dumbledore was casting at him from the side.
Seeing Li Wei nod, Harry carefully moved to stand in front of Sirius.
"W-what happened?"
"He came here again to kill me!"
Peter Pettigrew suddenly screamed.
"He killed Lily and James, and now he's trying to kill me... You have to help me, Harry... You've grown up so much!"
Harry heard his parents' names and his eyes widened—he instinctively looked at Sirius Black.
"Shut up! How dare you say such things to Harry!" "Sigh—"
A sigh came from beside them, and with a flash of incantation, Peter was suddenly suspended upside down in mid-air, his hands and feet locked, and his mouth covered.
Everyone turned to look and discovered that the one who cast the spell was Li Wei.
"I think I should speak for myself; these people are just too emotional."
Levi walked up to Harry, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear, but Harry felt as if he were speaking to him:
“The Secret Keeper for the James family was supposed to be Black—” Levi turned to Harry, “Do you know this spell? The Faithful Charm.”
Harry nodded—he had read more than ten times more books in the past six months than in the entire previous year combined.
Dumbledore stared intently at Livy, his expression unreadable—he remembered that just a month ago he had entrusted Livy with the task of protecting Harry.
Judging from the current situation, how come he has already figured out something amazing so quickly right after the start of the semester?
"But Black believed that everyone knew he was James's closest and most trusted confidant, so while choosing him as the Secret Keeper was safe, it wouldn't provide any secrecy. So, he had a brilliant idea and changed the Secret Keeper to Peter."
"But he clearly trusted the wrong person—the cowardly Peter was captured by Voldemort one day—and in order to save his life, he did not hesitate to betray James and his family and join Voldemort's ranks."
Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore closed their eyes—they had already envisioned what was to come.
"The enraged Black chose to resolve the matter himself—he approached Peter, intending to kill him, but Peter escaped by using the Muggles—when the Aurors came, he killed all the Muggles and cut off one of his own fingers, using the Animagus to escape, leaving Black alone."
"You can probably guess what happened next—Peter, who died in battle, became a great hero, while Black became a shameful traitor and was imprisoned in Azkaban as Voldemort's most loyal servant."
"Waaaaaah!"
Peter, who was tied up, was sobbing wildly, as if trying to explain himself.
Harry listened to all of this with wide eyes, feeling a chill run through him.
He only knew that his parents died in Voldemort's attack, but he had never heard that there were so many secrets involved.
Traitor! Shameful traitor!
Harry looked sharply at Sirius Black—who was looking him straight in the eye without flinching.
“Believe me,” Black said in a hoarse voice, “believe me, I have never betrayed James and Lily. I would rather die than betray them.”
Harry looked at Peter again—he was indeed missing a finger, and as a war hero, the fact that he had to be transformed into a mouse and stay by Ron's side all day long was self-evident.
He then looked at Professor Li Wei. Everyone was looking at Li Wei, including Sirius Black.
It's as if it's asking, "What do you want to do next?"
Levi placed his hand on Harry's shoulder and said softly:
“This may be cruel, and Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore might not even allow me to do it, but Harry—I’m leaving the choice to you.”
Harry stared blankly at Levi, his burning anger momentarily subsiding.
“Harry, Black and Peter were your father’s best friends during his school days. The Unyielding Charm—you know what that name means, right? Only those they trust most are chosen as Secret Keepers.”
Harry nodded, not understanding what Professor Levy meant.
But Levi grabbed his arm—so firmly, so powerfully—and held Harry's hand up to Peter, pulling the wand from his waist and pressing it into his hand.
"Harry, the choice is yours—do you want to avenge your parents on the spot, or do you want him to face trial by the Ministry of Magic?"
Let me make this clear first: the Ministry of Magic's verdict won't kill him; his fate will be life imprisonment in Azkaban.
