Mysterious Resurrection: What If

Chapter 106 First Battle

Chapter 106 First Battle (Twenty-Three)

Seeing that Liu Baimu remained silent, Zhang Qing continued, "Is there any new discovery?"

Liu Baimu turned to look at Zhang Qing but did not answer him. Instead, he asked, "Do you remember why we were trapped here?"

"Of course, it's because we're about to be resurrected by vengeful spirits, and we have no choice but to come here seeking a glimmer of hope. It's that thing here..."

Zhang Qing froze halfway through his sentence, his mouth agape, unable to utter another word. He suddenly realized that he couldn't remember why he had come here at all.

What exactly is that thing?
Zhang Qing's face showed a look of horror; he had never encountered such a bizarre thing before.

"I can't remember... what happened."

At this moment, everyone inside the old house, including Wang Chaling, had their memories erased as if they had been wiped clean; the existence of this strange clock had completely disappeared.

Liu Baimu's expression was grave. He slowly said, "It's not that you can't remember, but that we were attacked. I suspect someone has tampered with our memories..."

"It could be a ghost, or it could be an enemy of one of the members of the Pendulum Clock organization, but the only thing we can be sure of is that the one who attacked us was a supernatural being far beyond our level, otherwise it would not have been able to forcibly erase our memories without even seeing them."

The fear on Zhang Qing's face gradually faded, and he said with lingering fear, "Thank goodness... I don't have any enemies. As long as it wasn't directed at us, it's fine. I didn't even realize I was being attacked."

Liu Baimu said fiercely, "How can you be sure that your other memories haven't been tampered with?! Maybe it was your enemies who did it!"

Zhang Qing was speechless for a moment after Liu Baimu's words; he truly couldn't confirm his own authenticity.

Liu Baimu's expression was unusually solemn. He did not believe that his understanding of the supernatural was inferior to anyone else's, and that he was trapped here simply because he was unlucky.

After thinking for a moment, he spoke:
"Perhaps everyone has forgotten about that thing's existence. I can't be sure if staying here will still be of any use in maintaining my current state."

“I think we should leave here first, unite everyone, find out who attacked us, and then work together to take him down. This kind of person is too dangerous; we can’t let him get the things in the Wang family’s old house.”

After listening, Zhang Qing felt that what Liu Baimu said made perfect sense, and immediately nodded frantically, saying, "You're right! We'll go and inform the others now. With our strength, killing someone is a piece of cake."

As the two discussed their plan, they moved about. Moonlight shone through the damaged building, indicating that the old house, which had not seen the light of day for many years, had returned to reality.

Liu Baimu smiled slightly as he looked at the moonlight streaming in.

'My guess was right, things have returned to normal here. Now is the perfect time to leave. I should really thank the person who attacked this place...'

Seeing Liu Baimu's somewhat sinister smile, Zhang Qing asked, "Brother Liu, what's wrong with you? Why are you smiling so creepily..."

"Oh, it's nothing."

Liu Baimu patted Zhang Qing on the shoulder.

“I’ve thought of something good. Look at this moonlight. Nothing like this has ever happened in this old house before. It means we can get out soon. We’ve been stuck here for so long, it’s no wonder we’re a little happy.”

After listening, Zhang Qing looked at the ground and indeed, just as Liu Baimu had said, the ground was bathed in moonlight that he hadn't seen in a long time. He was so excited that he almost stood up.

“You’re right! That’s the moon outside! We’ve been here too long, we can finally go out.”

Liu Baimu turned his head away and continued to ponder his plan.

'Unite the demon tamers here, get out of here, find that person, and kill him! These scavengers on the verge of resurrection are my best shields...'

However, without warning, the lights above their heads suddenly went out, and the surrounding environment abruptly changed. Liu Baimu's eyes narrowed as he looked around.

This is a quiet, dimly lit corridor with rows of small rooms on both sides. These rooms are sealed off by iron bars and look like prison cells for holding criminals.

However, these rusty iron cells had no doors, and the gaps between the iron bars were so large that an adult male could squeeze in and out sideways.

Zhang Qing's expression changed.

"Haunted? When did such a place appear in this old house...?"

"Don't panic. It's probably related to that thing that disappeared from our memories. Something's definitely wrong here. Let's get out of here first..."

A hint of surprise flashed in Liu Baimu's eyes, and he immediately turned and left.

A strong stench of corpses quickly spread through the air. This place was too eerie. Just a moment ago, Liu Baimu clearly felt that the vengeful spirit within his body was unusable and was faintly feeling as if it were leaving his body.

However, as soon as they turned around, both of them showed expressions of surprise.

Through the dim yellow light, one could vaguely see a corpse covered in lividity lying in the middle of the road, as if it had been abandoned there for many years.

The body lay there quietly, seemingly without any danger.

Behind the corpse was an old wooden table, which looked quite old and had many mottled bloodstains on it.

There was an old desk lamp on the table. There were no wires around it, but the lamp emitted a dim yellow light that just illuminated the entire wooden table.

Liu Baimu said, "Zhang Qing, go up and take a look."

Zhang Qing looked troubled. This thing in front of him looked eerie no matter how he looked at it. He was crippled, but not brain-dead.

"Um... Brother Liu, my legs are weak, I really can't move..."

Liu Baimu glared fiercely at Zhang Qing, hesitated for a moment, but still took the initiative to walk up. There was no time to waste here; he had to find the others first.

"Zhang Qing, tell me immediately if you find anything unusual. If we join forces, ordinary ghosts can't do anything to us."

"Of course." Zhang Qing craned his neck to look at Liu Baimu, who was approaching in the distance.

"Don't worry, as soon as that corpse dares to move, I will help you suppress it immediately."

Liu Baimu nodded, walked closer and looked at the table, where there were several notebooks, a bottle of black ink and a fountain pen.

He carefully picked up one of the notebooks, and it felt icy cold to the touch. The cover of the notebook looked like it was made of human skin, but Liu Baimu wasn't too surprised. Most of the things in this old house were related to the dead.

The contents of the notebook were crooked and blurry. Liu Baimu casually closed the notebook and was about to open another one to examine it more closely.

Just then, a cold wind swept by, sending chills down their spines. Liu Baimu subconsciously turned around to look, but that turn of his head almost made him scream.

Behind Liu Baimu, a human face was pressed tightly against his back. It was the corpse lying on the ground, but the lividity on the corpse had disappeared and it was gradually regaining the aura of a living person.

The man looked to be about forty or fifty years old, with graying temples and a strange smile on his stiff face.
