Chapter 12

On the second planet lived a vain man.

"Oh! A man who admires me has come to visit me!"

The vain man cried out from afar when he saw the little prince.

In the eyes of those who love vanity, others are their admirers.

"Good day," said the little prince, "your hat looks very strange."

"Because the hat is for saluting people," answered the vain man. "When people cheer me, I salute them with the hat. Unfortunately, no one ever comes here."

The little prince didn't quite understand what he said, "Ah? What?"

The vain man said to the little prince, "You can clap the other with one hand."

The little prince started to shoot.The vain man modestly raised his hat to greet the little prince.

The little prince watched him salute himself, thinking that this would be more interesting than visiting the king.So he clapped his hands again.The vain man saluted him again by raising his hat.

The little prince clapped his hands for five minutes, and then, getting tired of this kind of thing, asked: "What do I have to do to make your hat fall off?"

But the vain man can't listen to his words, because he only listens to the words of others who praise him.

He continued to ask the little prince: "Do you really admire me?"

"What does admiration mean?"

"Admiration is to admit that I am the most beautiful person on this planet, the person with the best clothes, the richest person, and the smartest person."

"But you're the only one on your planet!"

"Make me happy, please come and admire me!"

The little prince had no choice but to shrug his shoulders lightly, "I admire you, but what's there to be happy about?"

So the little prince left.

On the way, the little prince said to himself: "My lord is still so weird."
