The teleportation spaceship first arrived at Earth 3's moon. Luo Wei stood in front of the large window, gazing at the distant, water-blue planet, and was somewhat surprised.
In my memory, Earth 3 and Lowell's Earth are similar. Apart from the oppressive sky and the ever-present evil aura in the air, there are no major differences. Even their appearance from space is almost identical, both being azure water planets.
"General Zod thought the aquamarine color was beautiful, so he preserved the original ocean and some landforms. This is a good thing for the new generation of Kryptonians, since the old Kryptonian environment was very poor, with rocks everywhere that were not conducive to the growth of vegetation and oceans."
Fiora, standing beside her, gazed at the aquamarine planet with delight in her eyes. She then continued to explain, "The Old Era was General Zod's term for the past. Now, for the Kryptonians, it is a new era. Although we are far removed from the past, General Zod hopes that we can remember the annihilation and pain brought by the Old Era."
"I'm really surprised that Zod would say something like that."
Luo Wei raised an eyebrow.
"He is a good mentor."
Fiora smiled, then pressed the communicator and said, "Begin landing now, target location..."
"Point to the capital."
"I'm wondering what Krypton will look like in three months."
Luo Wei was somewhat curious about the Kryptonians' level of infrastructure.
“Karl, all I can tell you is that Krypton always completes its colonies’ construction in a very short time after the war. This is because it is conducive to unifying the government after the war. After the army finishes handling all the political affairs in a short period of time, it will continue its journey across the vast star field.”
Kara-El recalled points her teacher had covered in class, "but this point was indeed somewhat fatal for the colony."
"Unlike their home planet, colonies do not have enough resources to survive."
Luo Wei understood his cousin's meaning, of course; he was familiar with the history of this subject.
Krypton's history of colonization has appeared in numerous science fiction works and also in the real world. Colonies cannot be controlled forever; a colony either prospers enough to break free from control or weakens and eventually perishes.
Krypton clearly falls into the second category; the vast majority of its colonies will perish because Kryptonians take a batch of resources with them before leaving the colonies, while also leaving behind some Kryptonian citizens.
"Short-term colonies are difficult to manage and are prone to chaos. Even if some colonies can maintain good order, many colonies will be forgotten by the home planet over time because Krypton is conquering too many star systems, and many colonies cannot keep up with the home planet's pace and eventually go off track."
Beside her, Fiora spoke with a complex expression and a tone full of helplessness, her brows revealing regret and empathy, "I once managed a colony, but later left to follow General Zod. When I returned, that colony had suffered a famine, nearly half of its population had died, and various resources were scarce. The home planet clearly did not have enough resources to support so many colonies, and it mostly extracted resources from them. At the same time, the colonies were too far from Krypton's core, making it impossible to provide support in the short term, which was also one of the reasons for the colonies' demise."
“I think that sometimes we don’t need to conquer more star systems; doing so would only lead to the extinction of more races.”
Kara frowned. As a descendant of the El family, she didn't dislike war, but rather the cruel and futile nature of it.
Clearly, the colonies not only failed to benefit the home planet, but instead led to a series of tragedies.
"For a great civilization, war is never-ending; it will continue indefinitely because building our home requires resources."
Fiora took a deep breath and said, "In a dog-eat-dog world, only by acquiring enough resources can one become strong and avoid being swallowed up by others."
"That's in the future. I'm talking about now."
Kara said weakly.
"No, I'm talking about now, Kara. You still underestimate the Kryptonians' construction capabilities."
Fiora shook her head, took a few steps back, and gave Rowe and Kara enough space to take in the view outside the large window.
The spaceship was descending vertically, passing through the thick atmosphere and layers of clouds, and the view below the clouds gradually came into view.
"Oh My God"
Kara gazed out the large window, a...
Shadows gradually enveloped her youthful face, the outline of a vast city reflected in her azure eyes.
Outside the large window, beneath the clouds, lay a cyberpunk-style high-tech city. Countless skyscrapers crisscrossed, suspended high in the sky. This vast, dense floating metropolis, despite its high density, didn't feel chaotic; instead, each system functioned perfectly. Viewed from above, it resembled a mythical wonder. Below the floating city, metal skyscrapers stretched to the ground, forming another urban area, but connected to the ground and with even denser, layered buildings. Everywhere in sight had been transformed into a futuristic city, complete with vegetation and lakes. These lakes, after special treatment, were incredibly clear and shimmering.
"Have you already exhausted the resources of this planet?"
Upon seeing this enormous city that resembled an ancient ruin, Rowe immediately realized the meaning behind Fiora's earlier words.
At the same time, he was also shocked. He had underestimated his own people's infrastructure technology and the oppressive feeling brought by advanced civilization. He originally thought that no matter how strong Krypton's construction capabilities were, they would not be enough to shock him.
But Krypton is considered an advanced civilization because...
The scene before him was the best proof, and it made Rowe realize how terrifying Krypton was at its peak. The resources of a planet could be developed in three months. With such speed, it was no wonder that General Zod and Fiora kept waging war. In their eyes, each conquered planet was just a grain of rice in a bowl. Only the dense starlight in the distance was enough to excite them.
"Ah."
Fiora simply nodded calmly, seemingly used to this scene.
"It seems that what's written in books isn't necessarily entirely accurate. It downplays these aspects."
Kara said this, but what she really meant was that she hadn't found the content of the books particularly impactful when she was a student, and now that she was witnessing it firsthand, she realized how ignorant she had been back then.
"How did you do it?"
Luo Wei was curious, mainly wondering whether he should bring these technologies back to China.
After all, Earth has many resources, but harvesting them is very difficult for humanity. Not all countries possess advanced harvesting technologies, and most countries lack the capacity to develop some resources. Even if they do develop them, significant damage and loss are inevitable. Mastering Kryptonian technology would solve these problems, which would undoubtedly be a good thing for humanity. However, this matter needs to be discussed with Zod.
"General Zod's mothership has all the equipment and machinery needed for construction. With those things, we can accomplish it in a very short time—it's that simple."
Fiora spoke casually, not forgetting to praise her master, "General Zod's decision to bring the mothership along was undoubtedly the right one."
"So, Zod called me back this time not just to tour New Krypton, but also to discuss expansion with me, right?"
Upon hearing this, Luo Wei understood the other purpose for being summoned to Earth 3.
Zod couldn't contain himself and wanted to begin a new journey.
As a soldier who had fought for many years, he was always thinking about fighting, let alone enduring more than a decade of hardship.
"You are indeed very clever; you guessed correctly."
Fiora nodded, confirming Rowe's words, "General Zod wants to ask you first; he wants you involved."
"Take me to see him."
Lowe did not refuse outright; he was satisfied with Zod's attitude.
If Zod launches a war and embarks on a new journey without informing him, it means that Zod's previous words to him were merely empty words and that he did not truly value him.
However, it can make a fanatical warrior suppress his excitement for war and sit down with a younger soldier to discuss strategies for conquest.
That is enough to prove Zod's heart.
“I’ll take you there now, but on the way, as General Zod instructed, I’ll take you to see the new technology we’ve discovered by chance.”
Fiora smiled mysteriously, then instructed the spaceship to land at the border of the capital.
He then led Rowe and Kara off the spaceship.
The spaceship landed on the outskirts of the capital city, next to a huge tower. The top of the tower shimmered with blue light, giving it the feel of a highly iconic building. Many mechanical troops patrolled around the building, and every place was under surveillance, leaving no blind spots.
"What kind of place is this? It's so heavily guarded."
Luo Wei was somewhat puzzled. When he arrived at the tower, he discovered that the tower was located on a high-altitude suspended platform, with layers of defense below. Looking up, he could see drones constantly flying overhead.
This turned the area into an airtight prison!
"This is a teleportation point."
Fiora explained calmly, "General Zod considers the teleportation point one of the most important military facilities, so he has dispatched mechanical troops to guard it. If there were a shortage of manpower, these mechanical soldiers should be replaced by Kryptonian warriors."
"Teleportation point?"
Luo Wei sensed something was off.
Although Krypton had mastered many teleportation technologies before, the teleportation point that Fiora was able to take her to visit was definitely not the teleportation technology of Krypton's old era.
It is at least more advanced and timely than the previous transmission methods.
He couldn't help but feel excited. "Take me to see it."
"plz follow me."
As Fiora spoke, she led them up to the top of the super-tall tower.
The tower has an elevator inside. Taking the elevator, you eventually reach the top. On this floor, you can still see the guards, but there is now an additional Kryptonian warrior, wearing heavy armor, standing in front of a circular archway.
"When we first arrived on Earth 3, after resolving all the problems, we immediately activated the World Engine, which changed the planet. All living things, including vegetation, were crushed by gravity, a situation we were used to."
Fiora explained.
"But you quickly realized something was wrong, right?"
"
Kara asked.
"That's right. Just as we were checking each planet one by one to see if we had missed anything, we unexpectedly discovered some vegetation living in the crevices. This vegetation was very resilient and did not die even when subjected to a hundred times the gravity."
"So we took it back to study. At first, we thought it was just a plant with strong vitality, but soon we discovered that the plant contained a mysterious power. In an experiment, the researchers accidentally extracted the energy and converted it, which made a device disappear into thin air."
"We were very surprised at the time. We quickly located the device on the other side of the planet, and there was a similar plant growing next to it."
"We initially guessed that these plants were interconnected and able to transmit information among themselves. Later experiments proved that this was indeed the case."
[PS: This vegetation does look familiar because it was inspired by Marvel's House X, a classic comic book.]
This is a transitional chapter, just to let things flow.
