174. He Should Have Been There

Translator: timmy

In midsummer, Wei Qing was wearing a three-piece suit that he would usually wear when attending important meetings. The temperature was not particularly high today, so it was not very muggy.

It was only 9 o’clock in the morning when he reached the theatre Wei Yuan mentioned.

There was no one guarding the entrance of the theatre and the door wasn’t closed, so Wei Qing came in directly.

But the moment he opened the door, he was stunned.

There were only two people in the theatre.

One was Yan Chuyang and the other was Song Huaiqi.

Yan Chuyang was standing on the stage with the script, while Song Huaiqi was sitting in the front row of the audience seats with a smile on his face. The two of them looked at each other with smiling eyes.

Yan Chuyang was anxiously reading his winning speech, so he didn’t notice that there was someone standing outside.

“I’m honored to be here today to receive this award. To be honest, though I have won this award, I feel that there’re still many to be improved.”

“Your voice is not confident enough,” Song Huaiqi gently interrupted the boy. “You are accepting the award, not doing a donation. Don’t be so humble. Excessive modesty means pride. Your classmates would be envious of you more.”

“Ah?” Yan Chuyang laughed, and he quickly straightened his shoulders. “Then I should be more proud.”

“That’s right. Now your eyes looks more confident.”

Wei Qing stared blankly at the interaction between the two of them. His heart was like being stabbed by a wooden knife, feeling a dull pain.

‘I should be the person who is instructing Yan Chuyang how to deliver the speech on the stage.’

‘Yan Chuyang and I are couple. It was me who witnessed him to be a shinning winner standing on the stage now from a cowardly boy.’

0’It was me who had discovered his beauty, wiped away the dust from his body, and made him shine in his original luster.’

‘It was me who was spoiling him and letting him know how outstanding he is.’

‘But now, Yan Chuyang succeeds and is standing on the stage, but he instantly forgets all about me and turned to smile at another man.’

‘I should stay with him when he is going to accept the first affirmation of his life and step up to the first new high level. But now, I become an outsider that everyone knows but I don’t know that myself.’

Wei Qing felt blue; his whole body was extremely cold and he seemed to have just walked out of the ice and snow though it was June now.

“Mr. Wei?” Song Huaiqi suddenly saw Wei Qing standing at the door. He quickly stood up from the chair and said, “Why didn’t you saying anything? Don’t stand outside. Come in now.”

Song Huaiqi acted as if he was the master of the house through his behavior and manner of greeting the guest.

Wei Qing’s hand suddenly tightened and twisted on both sides of his legs.

“Wei Qing?” Seeing him come over, Yan Chuyang was shocked too. He hurriedly got down from the podium and approached him, “Why are you here?”

Wei Qing was startled, then slowly raised his head to stare at the person in front of him. He said expressionlessly, “Why? Can’t I come to see you accept the award?”

Yan Chuyang was frightened by his cold expression, then said hesitantly, “No, I just feel a little sudden.”

Wei Qing snorted without saying a word.

Seeing Wei Qing wear the black suit, Yan Chuyang frowned and said, “Why are you wearing so thick? Today’s highest temperature is 30 degree Celsius. Aren’t you hot?”

Wei Qing frowned and spoke coldly, “Does it matter to you?”

Yan Chuyang was choked by Wei Qing’s words. Although he find it baffling to be rejected unreasonably, he could not help but hold the man’s wrist as he looked at the man’s formal dress. “Come in first to get some cool air. There’s air conditioning on the stage.”

“Get lost!” Wei Qing suddenly shook off the boy’s hand and said with his jaw clenched. “It is none of your business! Even if I die, you don’t have to care about me!”

Looking at the man’s stubborn face, Yan Chuyang was both angry and amused.

When Wei Qing was petulant, he always closed his lips like a kid who had been robbed of candy, making you don’t even want to be angry with him.

The venue fell silent again.

Wei Qing stood at the door arrogantly without saying a word, while Yan Chuyang looked at him speechlessly. Song Huaiqi saw the two of them staring at each other, afraid that he would be neglected, so he came out of his seat tactfully then walked to Yan Chuyang.

“Mr. Wei.” After three minutes of silence, Song Huaiqi finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. “There’s still more than half an hour before Chuyang will go on stage to deliver his winning speech. He’s not familiar with his speech yet. It will affect his mood and preparations if you stand here, so…”

“Does it matter to you?” Wei Qing interrupted him, staring at the man and saying, “Did I stand in your way?”

“It’s not my way, but you are affecting Chuyang…”

“What does it have to do with you even if I’m affecting him?” Wei Qing said coldly, “Do you need to interfere in our affairs?”

Song Huaiqi was choked and turned blue in the face.

Yan Chuyang said angrily to him, “Wei Qing, don’t be so mean. Senior does not have an ill intention.”

“Huh, yes,” Wei Qing shrugged. “He has no ill intentions. I have! Everything is my fault!”

Yan Chuyang was angry so angry that his face turned pale when he heard Wei Qing’s sarcastic tone. After a while, he tried to convince himself to calm down.

‘Wei Qing can be persuaded by reason but not be cowed by force. If you go against him when he’s angry, He’s only going to turn against you more.’

Yan Chuyang breathed a sigh of relief, pulled the man’s sleeves and tried hard to make a gentle  sound, “Don’t do that, okay? If you’re in a bad mood or angry, shall we go home later to talk about it? Now you go back first, I still want to… ”

“You still want me to go back?” Wei Qing interrupted him and stared at the boy in disbelief. “Yan Chuyang, do you think I’m not qualified to attend your awards ceremony?”

“Who told you that I had an award ceremony this morning?”

When Song Huaiqi heard this, he hurriedly said, “Chuyang, didn’t you tell Mr. Wei? You shouldn’t have done this. Although I am very gratified that you told me first, but you still should tell it to Mr. Wei… ”
