Practicing the Zixia Skill here in the early stages is truly twice as effective with half the effort.
It is said that the "Chaoyang Yiqi Sword," one of the Five Swords of Mount Hua, was created by Lü Dongbin, the Pure Yang Immortal, after observing the sunrise here.
Before he left, he laughed heartily and left his sword technique behind, waiting for a destined person. Later, it was obtained by a senior from Mount Hua.
This sword technique is profound and complex. In the more than two hundred years since the establishment of the Huashan School, no one has been able to master it.
Li Mu continued without stopping and soon arrived at the foot of Chaoyang Peak. He took a deep breath and used his skill to climb the Heavenly Ladder. He instantly felt as if he had no weight. With a light step, he could leap up one or two zhang high. In mid-air, he took a step and rose another six or seven chi high.
They climbed in this way, practicing their light-footed skills. When encountering dangerous places, they would use their feet to touch the ground or their hands to climb vines, leaping and bounding freely, reaching the summit in no time.
Li Mu took a deep breath. It was still dark and long before sunrise. After a moment of rest, he began to stretch his muscles and bones, performing a set of 108 moves of the Heaven-Turning Palm. Only then did the sky gradually begin to brighten.
After thinking for a moment, Li Mu drew his longsword and practiced the Huashan beginner sword techniques, the Iron Wire Sword Style, and the Yangwu Sword Technique again before dawn broke.
Suddenly, a figure appeared, leaping through the air. When the figure was still three or four zhang above the Chaoyang Terrace, it took a step, floated up, and as its momentum subsided, took three steps in mid-air, as if there were a ladder to heaven beneath its feet, and landed gracefully on the Chaoyang Terrace.
Li Mu's three steps in mid-air were far less impressive than Yue Buqun's "climbing the ladder to heaven."
Upon seeing Li Mu, Yue Buqun smiled and nodded: "Not bad, you can cultivate here from now on."
Li Mu said happily, "Thank you, Master."
After speaking, the two of them, with perfect understanding, sat down on the balcony, facing north and south respectively, with their legs crossed, facing east.
Yue Buqun has cultivated to the fifth level of the Zixia Skill. When the Zixia Skill is cultivated to this level, purple mist will be generated when he circulates the energy. He no longer needs to collect the purple mist in the morning for ordinary practice. He can just use breathing exercises to regulate his breath at other times.
Yue Buqun came here primarily to perceive the changing energy of the rising sun, for at his level, mere arduous cultivation would hardly lead to breakthroughs. Therefore, Yue Buqun spent about half the year cultivating here.
On the contrary, Li Mu had just reached the third level of cultivation and was using the Chaoyang Terrace for his practice.
After gathering his qi and finishing his practice, Yue Buqun stopped Li Mu, stroked his beard and smiled, and said, "Now that you have mastered the Zixia Skill to the third level and climbed to Chaoyang Terrace, there is a sword technique that I should pass on to you."
Li Mu was taken aback, then overjoyed and exclaimed, "A new sword technique? Could it be the Rising Sun One Qi Sword?"
Yue Buqun nodded slightly and said, "It is indeed the 'Rising Sun One Qi Sword.' It seems you have heard of the story of the Rising Sun One Qi Sword, so I won't say more. Although I don't know if this sword technique was created by Lu Zu, it is indeed an extremely profound sword technique. Even I am not proficient enough. You must study and comprehend it carefully."
Li Mu nodded, indicating that he understood.
Yue Buqun then began to explain: "The Chaoyang One Qi Sword emphasizes controlling the sword with qi, transforming the sword into the sun and moon. It is a supreme sword technique that comprehends the celestial cycle through swordsmanship. The rising and setting of the sun and moon, the alternation of yin and yang, are truly the ultimate principles of heaven and earth."
"This sword technique is the most intricate and profound of the Five Swords of Mount Hua. Many parts of it are connected with the solar terms. To learn this sword technique, one must be familiar with the twenty-four solar terms. Among the disciples of Mount Hua, only you have studied poetry and books so diligently. If you can understand some of the true meaning of this sword technique in the future, it will greatly benefit your future cultivation."
"This sword technique consists of 365 sword strikes, corresponding to the 365 days of the year, which is in harmony with the number of stars in the celestial sphere. From now on, I will teach you one sword strike every day, and I plan to teach you this sword technique in a year!"
As he spoke, Yue Buqun took out an ancient book from his bosom and said solemnly, "This is a sword manual. It contains annotations by my Huashan predecessors. There are many subtle and profound points. Take it back and study it carefully. It will surely save you from many detours."
Li Mu took it and looked at the cover, which read "Chaoyang Yiqi Sword" in five large characters!
Seeing that he had put it away, Yue Buqun smiled slightly, took a light breath, drew his sword, and thrust it out. With a resounding hum, the sword's blade transformed into countless forms, like the rising sun, reaching everywhere. In an instant, all forms returned to one, and the sword was still the same sword.
Yue Buqun sheathed his sword and, seeing Li Mu's stunned expression, chuckled. He then demonstrated the sword technique, its principles, and the methods for initiating and finishing the strike.
And so, the first morning class on Chaoyang Peak came to an end.
Chapter 529 Descending Mount Hua, Trampling the Martial World
Time flies, and another year has passed in the blink of an eye. Li Mu is now sixteen years old and has finally mastered all 365 sword techniques of the Morning Sun Sword.
It's been four years since I left home; it's time to go back.
When Yue Buqun found out, he readily agreed.
However, before he left, he was given a small task: to deliver a letter to both Mount Heng in the north and Mount Heng in the south.
Of course, delivering the message was not the main purpose. Li Mu was no longer young, and his martial arts skills were among the best of the younger generation. He was also intelligent, but he lacked experience in the martial arts world.
The Northern Hengshan and the Southern Hengshan are sects that have maintained a relatively good relationship with each other after the decline of Huashan.
Of course, these three are the weakest of the Five Mountains Sword Sects, so their relationship is naturally closer. Unlike the Songshan and Taishan Sects, which have many members and numerous experts, they don't need to stick together for mutual support.
Li Mu was new to the martial arts world and had little experience, so starting his travels with these two sects was a good starting point.
It allows you to get to know the masters of the Five Mountains Sword Sects in advance, witness the martial arts of each sect, and make friends with the younger generation of experts, all without any risks in the martial arts world.
Of course, these were all Yue Buqun's thoughts. Li Mu didn't care; he wasn't lacking in experience in the martial arts world. However, since he had come to the martial arts world, it wouldn't hurt to travel around more.
As someone once said, to make a name for yourself in the world, you must drink the finest wine, ride the wildest horses, and possess the most beautiful women.
Whether it's possible or not is hard to say, but it's worth thinking about.
Fortunately, he only needed to make a few more trips to Mount Heng in the north, and then make a detour to Mount Heng in the south on his way back to Fujian. The two letters wouldn't take up much of his time.
After descending Mount Hua, Li Mu arrived at a branch of the nearby Fuwei Escort Agency. The snow-white foal that Lin Zhennan had given him more than three years ago had now grown into an exceptionally handsome horse, and its name was Xiaobai.
After packing his luggage, Li Mu mounted his white steed, flicked the reins, and galloped away.
……
In March, the weather was still chilly despite the change in temperature. Li Mu traveled non-stop and arrived at a small town at the foot of Hengshan Mountain in just two days. This town was practically nestled against Hengshan Mountain and was filled with believers offering incense and praying to Buddha.
Because Hengshan is a place of quiet cultivation, it is not convenient to entertain guests. So a separate courtyard was built in the town to accommodate fellow martial arts practitioners and some devout and generous pilgrims.
The villa is located outside the town; a little inquiry is all it takes to find the way.
Upon learning that he was a disciple of Mount Hua and needed to pay his respects to the sect leader and deliver a personal letter from him, the guest disciple was very polite and arranged a room for Li Mu in a separate courtyard.
After washing up and taking a bath, Li Mu felt refreshed and strolled around the town.
Because this town is backed by the Hengshan Sect, it has excellent public security. Although there are many people from the martial arts world, ordinary scoundrels have long been eliminated by the Hengshan Sect, so it appears quite prosperous.
We found a rather elegant restaurant and treated ourselves to a good meal. After traveling for two days, we were a bit tired, so we returned to Hengshan Villa and rested early.
The next day, after practicing the Zixia Skill on the nearby rocks and having breakfast, Li Mu headed towards Hengshan Mountain, led by a guest monk.
As expected of a monk who frequently receives pilgrims, he could effortlessly recount the sights of Hengshan Mountain along the way, pointing out a story at any spot.
Upon arriving at the Hengshan Mountain gate, they were led to a side hall for tea by a different disciple, a young nun of about seventeen or eighteen. The two introduced themselves, revealing her Dharma name as "Yi Hui," and that she was a disciple of Abbess Dingyi.
Li Mu didn't mince words and directly stated his purpose, explaining that he had a personal letter from his master, Yue Buqun, the head of the Huashan Sect, to deliver to Abbess Dingxian, the head of the Hengshan Sect.
It's said that every sect selects disciples who are gentle, eloquent, and extremely patient to serve as their guest master. Li Mu largely agrees with this; to be the disciple of the hot-tempered Abbess Dingyi, one simply needs to be gentle.
Upon hearing Li Mu's intention, Yi Hui dared not delay. She recited a Buddhist chant and quickly left.
Li Mu sat here leisurely, sipping his tea and observing the furnishings in the side hall. The Hengshan Sect truly lived up to its reputation as a Buddhist lineage; everything, from the tables and chairs to the interior decorations, was extremely simple.
Before long, a disciple came to report that the sect leader, Abbess Dingxian, had invited him. Li Mu dared not delay, straightened his clothes, and followed her through several courtyards into the inner hall.
This is a Buddhist hall, where a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva is enshrined. A nun, dressed in black robes, with a kind face, and appearing to be in her forties, is sitting upright on a prayer mat, her hands clasped together, looking up at him.
Li Mu was not negligent. He knew that Ding Xian was a few years older than Yue Buqun, but he appeared so young because of his profound internal strength and the art of preserving his youth. He quickly bowed and said, "Lin Pingzhi, a disciple of Mount Hua, pays respects to Uncle Ding Xian."
Master Dingxian smiled and said, "No need for formalities!" Pointing to a prayer mat next to her, she said, "The Buddhist hall is simple, please sit down and talk, my niece."
Li Mu bowed and thanked him, saying, "Thank you very much, Uncle Master."
Dingxian said, "I haven't seen your master for several years. How has Mr. Yue been lately?"
Li Mu said respectfully, "Thanks to my master's blessing, my master has always been well. This is a letter my master wrote to my master before I came here!" As he spoke, he took out the letter from his pocket and handed it to Master Dingxian with both hands.
Dingxian took the book, opened it, read it once, and then said with great interest, "Oh. So this is your first time traveling down the mountain. Judging from your young age, your master values you highly."
Before Li Mu could speak, he spoke again: "I heard that Junior Brother Yue has many disciples, among whom his eldest disciple Linghu Chong is the best in swordsmanship. A few years ago, he came with Junior Brother Yue and competed with my disciples. His swordsmanship was indeed remarkable."
"Since we've entrusted you with this journey, your martial arts skills must be quite good. How do they compare to Linghu Chong's?"
Li Mu was not modest. After thinking for a moment, he said, "If we talk about swordsmanship, Senior Brother is better. If we talk about internal strength, this disciple is more profound."
Master Dingxian looked at him in surprise: "Judging from your age, you must be quite young, yet your internal strength is so remarkable."
Li Mu said, "This disciple is sixteen years old this year."
Dingxian laughed and said, "It seems that Junior Brother Yue has gained another talented and beautiful disciple. I've become a bit too attached to him."
He then put his hands together in prayer and uttered a Buddhist chant.
After taking a closer look, he felt even more that this young man was extraordinary.
When Abbess Dingxian arrived, she was quite interested and chatted with Li Mu for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. Then, with her eyes slightly closed, she quietly recited a few lines of scripture, as if she wanted to see him off.
Not wanting to disturb the nun's meditation, Li Mu bowed and took his leave.
……
The Hengshan Sect occupies a vast area. After leaving the Buddhist hall, Li Mu did not see any disciples in charge of receiving guests. This was the place where the abbess practiced in seclusion, and few people came here. He could only leave on his own.
The scenery at Hengshan Mountain is quite nice, so we can take a stroll around.
After walking about a hundred paces, he heard some noises nearby, quite lively. Li Mu turned around and walked over, bypassing the rocks. Suddenly, he heard a series of delicate shouts. It turned out that the Hengshan Martial Arts Arena was right in front of him.
Li Mu glanced at the scenery and found it to be incredibly beautiful.
Hundreds of delicate young nuns were seen making loud noises on the field, their swords flashing. Under the sunlight, everything shone with white light, and with all of them bald, the scene was truly spectacular.
Just then, a loud shout rang in my ears:
"Who are you? How dare you trespass on my Hengshan Sect's territory!"
Although it was a female voice, it was rough and powerful, reaching right to the ears, as if it were exploding in the ears.
Li Mu, who was originally watching the rare scene with great interest, was caught off guard and was startled by the loud shout.
At the same time, he was secretly amazed by the nun's skill. Since he started practicing the Zixia Skill, his five senses had become increasingly sharp, and he could not hide the slightest movement around him.
Even if he was distracted by watching, he wouldn't let someone get close to him without him noticing.
