“Okay, I promise you.” Chen Ran took a deep breath and said, “I will help you find that document.”
Upon hearing this reply, Hua Jiaming's lips curled into a cold smile. "Very well, I don't want you to disappoint me."
The man in black put down his knife, gave Chen Ran a cold look, and then turned and left the room.
Chen Ran breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if he had just escaped from the jaws of death.
He knew he had to act quickly to find the real documents in order to escape this dangerous game.
He began investigating Wang Feng's identity and discovered that he was a retired professor who had once served as a senior executive in a large company.
Chen Ran guessed that the document might have been obtained during his tenure, so he began to look for relevant clues.
After several days of effort, Chen Ran finally found a possible clue.
He discovered that Wang Feng had once served as the CEO of a company called Tianxiang Technology, which was controlled by Hua Jiaming.
Chen Ran was delighted, feeling that this matter was becoming more and more interesting.
He decided to investigate Tianxiang Technology Company to see if he could find more clues.
When he arrived at the company entrance, he was stopped by the security guard.
"Excuse me, this isn't a place you can just walk into," the security guard said.
Chen Ran was startled; he knew he had to come up with a way to get into the company.
He suddenly had an idea, so he took out a business card from his pocket and handed it to the security guard.
"I'm here to see your chairman," Chen Ran said. "This is my business card."
The security guard took the business card, looked at it carefully, and found that it bore the name of a large company, as well as Chen Ran's name and position.
"Please wait a moment, I'll inform you," the security guard said, then picked up the phone and dialed a number.
Shortly after, a middle-aged man in a suit walked over and greeted Chen Ran.
"Hello, I am the Chief Operating Officer of Tianxiang Technology Company," the middle-aged man said. "I heard you want to see our chairman?"
Chen Ran nodded. "Yes, I have some things to discuss with him."
"I'm sorry, our chairman is not in the company right now," the middle-aged man said. "He's abroad on a business trip."
Chen Ran was startled, sensing that something was amiss.
"Alright then," Chen Ran said. "I'll schedule a time when he gets back."
The middle-aged man nodded. "Okay, I'll tell him you've been here. Would you like me to arrange a car for you to go back?"
Chen Ran shook his head. "No need, thank you."
He felt he had to find Wang Feng's whereabouts as soon as possible, so he decided to go to Wang Feng's house to look for clues.
When he arrived at Wang Feng's door, he found it locked and no one seemed to be home.
He felt a pang of disappointment, but he didn't want to give up just like that.
Suddenly, he had an idea. He could ask his neighbors about Wang Feng and see if he could find any clues.
He inquired with his neighbors and learned that Wang Feng was a retired professor who rarely went out and didn't socialize much.
Chen Ran felt a wave of disappointment. He felt as if he had fallen into a bottomless abyss from which he could not escape.
Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly noticed that Wang Feng's mailbox was overflowing with letters.
A thought struck him, and he stepped forward to examine the letters. He found that most of the letters were advertising flyers, but one letter in particular caught his attention.
A stamp was affixed to the seal of the letter, postmarked two days prior. (Li Ma Zhao) He was immediately excited, believing that this letter might be the clue he was looking for.
He carefully opened the envelope and found an invitation to Wang Feng to attend an academic exchange meeting.
Chen Ran was overjoyed, seeing this as an opportunity. He could take this chance to find Wang Feng and ask him about the documents.
So he quickly drove to the location of the academic exchange meeting and arrived at the lobby of a hotel.
In the lobby, he saw Wang Feng, who was wearing a black suit, had a full head of white hair, and looked somewhat haggard.
Chen Ran's heart tightened; he knew his time was running out. He stepped forward, introduced himself to Wang Feng, and then asked him about the documents.
Chapter Sixty-Six: Confidential Documents
Upon hearing this question, Wang Feng's expression immediately changed. "Who are you? How do you know about this?"
Chen Ran was startled and quickly made up an excuse, "I was sent by Hua Jiaming. He said you have that document."
When Wang Feng heard Hua Jiaming's name, his face turned even uglier. "How could I have such a document? You must have made a mistake."
Chen Ran felt a pang of disappointment, but he didn't want to give up. "Think about it again. Maybe you've come across that document at work."
Wang Feng fell into deep thought, as if recalling something.
“I worked at Tianxiang Technology Company for a period of time, but I was just an ordinary employee and didn’t have access to any confidential documents,” Wang Feng said.
Chen Ran's heart sank; he sensed this matter was becoming increasingly complex. He suddenly considered a possibility: perhaps Wang Feng was completely unaware of the document's existence, and someone had deliberately placed it with him to make him a scapegoat.
"During your time working at Tian547 Xiang Technology Company, did you offend anyone?" Chen Ran asked.
Wang Feng shook his head. "I was just an ordinary employee there and didn't offend anyone."
Chen Ran felt a headache coming on; he felt as if he were trapped in a huge mystery, unable to find any clues.
Suddenly, he had an idea: maybe he could find the people who worked with Wang Feng back then and ask them about the situation.
So he asked Wang Feng for the list of people he worked for at Tianxiang Technology Company back then, and then drove to the company.
At the company, he found a colleague who had worked with Wang Feng years ago and asked him some questions.
“Back when we worked at the company, there were indeed some confidential documents that needed to be kept secret,” a colleague said. “But those documents (AFCF) were only accessible to senior management; ordinary employees like us had no access to them at all.”
Chen Ran was startled and suddenly thought of a possibility: perhaps the document did not exist at all, but was a trap deliberately set by someone.
After thanking his colleagues, he immediately drove back to the city.
After returning to the city, Chen Ran immediately contacted Hua Jiaming and reported his investigation results.
“That document doesn’t exist at all,” Chen Ran said. “I suspect it’s a trap set by someone.”
Hua Jiaming was silent for a moment, then said, "I understand. I will investigate this matter thoroughly. You did a good job, and I will give you a bonus."
Chen Ran was overjoyed and quickly thanked him. He knew this matter was not simple and that there must be some conspiracy behind it. He decided to continue his investigation and uncover the truth.
The next day, Chen Ran went to the headquarters of Tianxiang Technology Company, intending to find some former employees to learn about the situation. He went to the human resources department and explained his purpose to the staff. The staff told him that most of the former employees had already left the company, and only a few veteran employees were still working there.
Chen Ran's heart skipped a beat, and he asked the names of the veteran employees. He discovered that one of them, named Li Ming, was the CEO of Tianxiang Technology Company.
Chen Ran felt a surge of excitement and decided to talk to Li Ming. However, when he arrived at Li Ming's office, he found Li Ming's attitude to be very cold.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Li Ming said. “I’ve never heard of any classified documents.”
Chen Ran's heart sank; he sensed that this matter was becoming increasingly complicated. He suddenly considered a possibility: perhaps Li Ming was the one who had set the trap.
He decided to investigate Li Ming's background more thoroughly. After some investigation, he discovered that Li Ming had worked at Tianxiang Technology Company for many years, climbing the ranks step by step. However, his background was very mysterious, seemingly hiding some unspeakable secret.
Chen Ran decided to find some of the former employees to find out what happened. He found one of the former employees who had worked with Li Ming and asked him some questions.
“Back when we worked at the company, there were indeed some confidential documents that needed to be kept secret,” the veteran employee said. “But those documents were only accessible to senior management; ordinary employees like us had no access to them at all.”
Chen Ran was startled, suddenly realizing a possibility: perhaps the document didn't exist at all, but was a trap deliberately set by someone. And he increasingly felt that this person was Li Ming.
Chen Ran secretly resolved to get to the bottom of this matter.
So he began to closely monitor Li Ming's actions and discovered that he often secretly left the company at night and went to a remote warehouse.
Chen Ran decided to follow Li Ming to see what he was doing in the warehouse. One night, he quietly followed Li Ming to the warehouse.
He found many discarded computers and files piled up in the warehouse, and Li Ming was rummaging through them for something.
Chen Ran's heart stirred, and he stepped forward, suddenly turning on his flashlight and illuminating Li Ming's face.
Chapter Sixty-Seven: The Whereabouts of Hua Jiaming
"What are you looking for?" Chen Ran asked.
Li Ming was startled and turned around to see Chen Ran. His expression changed. "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
Chen Ran didn't answer his question, but continued, "Are you looking for that document?"
Li Ming was silent for a moment, then sneered, "I don't know what document you're talking about. I'm just tidying up some discarded items here."
Chen Ran knew he was lying, but he didn't expose him. "I hope you can tell the truth, otherwise I will tell everyone about this."
Li Ming's expression changed. "What exactly do you want?"
Chen Ran was secretly pleased, knowing that he was about to give himself away. "That document concerns the fate of many people. I hope you can hand it over."
Li Ming was silent for a moment, then said, "I can give it to you, but you must agree to one condition."
"What are the conditions?" Chen Ran asked.
“You must keep this a secret and not tell anyone,” Li Ming said.
Chen Ran considered it for a moment, then said, "I agree."
Li Ming pulled a CD from his pocket. "This is the document."
