"Aikira said."
“Angela’s shooting attracted the local sheriff. She showed her identification and handed the remaining two people over to the sheriff.”
Robson added.
Dimo nodded.
Sieg gave Locke a thumbs up. "You really know this place, don't you, you're a long-time resident of the West End?"
"Coachman, keep going."
Locke said.
"Ok."
The coachman waved the reins, and the horses continued forward.
As Locke walked through Pete Street and passed Old Tom's apartment, he looked out the window and suddenly a flood of memories came back to him.
But what worried him most was the whereabouts of the Bud Beamons, who used to live in Old Tom's apartment building. Would they ever return? And if he had been summoned by them, what was their purpose?
The carriage left Pete Street and entered Mar Street.
Locke collected his thoughts and asked Sig beside him, "Is there an invisibility talisman that can prevent the carriage from being seen by the people here and allow us to pass through smoothly?"
"Invisibility talisman? I don't have one with me."
Sieg shook his head.
"Then everyone be on alert, this place is already a slum."
Locke reminded him.
Frida's eyes lit up. "This is the legendary slum? I want to see it."
"Your Highness, please don't be willful."
The maid advised.
Frida drew back the curtains and looked at the people outside through the glass window.
As soon as the carriage entered Mar Street, a group of raggedly dressed children swarmed around it, running alongside and pleading, "Please, give us some money! We haven't eaten for days!"
Frida immediately looked at the maid Natal, "Look at them, it's so cold, and their shoes are all torn. Quickly give them some money."
Natal shook her head. "Your Highness, we can't give them money. Have you forgotten that you were just tricked?"
“Natal, don’t mention that. We’re still good master and servant.”
"Alright, Your Highness, have you forgotten how I was just tricked?"
"Since you put it that way, I'll think about it."
Frida looked at Locke. "Locke, are they liars?"
“They are not, but if you give them money, our carriage will not be able to move forward.”
Locke kindly reminded him.
"why?"
Frida asked.
"Because they are just the first wave. If they don't get anything, they will give up after a while. But if they get money, there will be a second wave and a third wave. This is a slum, and the people living here are short of money."
Locke said.
Frida frowned. "The kingdom is already so wealthy, how can there still be so many poor people? They must be liars! I must punish them!"
Locke was surprised by how quickly Frida's attitude changed; one second she was saying she wanted to help them, and the next she wanted to punish them.
"You think the kingdom is rich because you were born a nobleman, and they are poor because they were born commoners. This is the injustice of fate, and you cannot punish them for it. They are not liars; it is you who are blinded by your noble status and cannot see the polarization of this world."
Locke said.
Sig, Dimmel, Robson, and Angela all looked at Locke in surprise.
They were astonished that Locke could say such a thing.
"So, is our country rich or poor?"
Natal asked, puzzled.
"The country is rich, but the people are poor."
Locke said.
"Locke! You deserve to die! How dare you speak of our Tumen Kingdom like that!"
Frida pointed at Locke's nose.
Locke looked at Sieg and asked in a low voice, "Is there any way to make her and Natal temporarily lose their memories?"
"You're really brave."
Sieg pulled a talisman from his coat pocket and handed it to Frida.
"Your Highness, I have something fun to give you. I hope you will like it."
Frida took the silver talisman with suspicion. It was a petal-shaped talisman, and as soon as Frida held it, it transformed into a beautiful flower that bloomed in her palm.
Frida's eyes lit up, and Natal was stunned.
Sieg warned Locke not to open his eyes.
Moments later, the flowers withered and disappeared from Princess Frida's hands.
Frida and Natal had also forgotten everything that had just happened.
Their memories were stuck at the point when they were just tricked by con artists in the West End.
Frida stamped her foot.
"Damn liar, how dare you mock this princess!"
"Locke, you knew all along, why didn't you stop me from getting off the car!"
"You're such an indecisive man! Once you've made a decision, you shouldn't let anything influence you. We agreed to go to the reindeer farm, so why did we stop halfway? No one is allowed to get out of the car now!"
Hearing Frida's familiar words, Locke breathed a sigh of relief.
He didn't want the princess or her maid to relay his blunt truth to the Queen.
After chasing for a while, the group of little beggars realized they had found nothing and gave up.
The carriage traveled smoothly for a while before encountering another obstacle.
The workers' march blocked the horse-drawn carriage.
The lead worker held up a megaphone and protested loudly.
"Resist the new alchemy bill! Give me back my alchemy plant! Give me back my job! Give me back my job!!!"
"Fight to the end for workers' rights! Resist the implementation of the new Alchemy Act!"
"I want a job! Give me a job!"
The massive march blocked the already narrow road. Onlookers watched indifferently. Some homeless people joined the procession, hoping to get some food, but the workers' march did not provide any food, as they themselves were a group on the verge of becoming homeless.
"what's the situation?"
Frida drew back the curtains and saw a crowd of heads gathered.
Natal looked over as well. "Your Highness, it's a parade."
"They look like workers from a gold refinery."
Robson said.
"Isn't the new alchemy bill supposed to be for their health? Those small factories and workshops with inadequate protection not only pollute water but also cause lung diseases from alchemy waste. Why are they resisting it?"
Frida asked, puzzled.
Natal nodded. "Yes, they really don't know what's good for them. There was such a serious water pollution incident in the West District before, which killed more than 500 people. Her Majesty the Queen was considerate of them and introduced the new Alchemy Act. Yet they still don't know what's good for them and are still holding demonstrations here."
Locke glanced at Frida and her maid, and said in a low voice,
"These are workers who lost their jobs because of the closure of a large number of alchemy plants. They can't think about water pollution and disease because they are out of work, which could plunge their entire families into abyss. The whole family will have to move to this neighborhood, and some may not even survive the winter. What they are resisting is not the new alchemy bill, but this damned social system."
Chapter 132, Intimate Honesty
Sieg shouted before Locke could finish speaking.
"Look, what is that!"
Frida and her maid Natal were successfully distracted and did not hear Locke's almost treasonous remarks.
Locke's remarks, if placed in his original society, would at most be called those of an angry young man, but the society we live in now is different.
Sieg really didn't want to waste another Forgetfulness Charm, since Mick had bought them.
Locke also realized his own abnormality; it seemed that when he was around Frida, he always unconsciously wanted to tell the truth.
Just as Frida, Natal, and even Angela and Robson were looking in the direction Sieg was pointing, Dimmel leaned close to Locke's ear and whispered a reminder.
“Locke, I have to admit you’re really bold, but you should never say such things to a spoiled and willful princess. You should thank Sieg.”
