Chapter 886 Is it safe here?
“Sir, we are just passing through and don’t know if it’s safe here,” Su Ting replied politely.
The old man smiled slightly, a glint of light flashing in his eyes: "This path is not safe, but with my help, you can pass through safely."
"You're willing to help us?" Su Ting asked, somewhat surprised.
“Of course, I’ve been here for many years and know this forest like the back of my hand.” The old man nodded. “However, you need to do me a small favor.”
"What kind of help is it?" Kevin asked warily.
"I have a very important item that has been stolen by some bandits. Can you help me get it back?" the old man pleaded.
Su Ting and his teammates exchanged glances; they all knew that in this situation, having another ally was always a good thing.
“We’re willing to help you, but you have to promise not to cause us any more trouble,” Su Ting said firmly.
"Don't worry, I will take you to retrieve that item and then ensure your safe departure," the old man assured you.
After everyone nodded in agreement, they followed the old man deeper into the forest. Soon, an abandoned hut came into view. The old man stopped and pointed ahead, saying, "Those bandits are hiding inside."
“Okay, let’s take care of them,” Su Ting said decisively, and then led his team members to carefully approach the cabin.
"Captain, let me go in and scout ahead," Rena volunteered.
"Okay, be careful," Su Ting instructed.
Rena quickly sneaked into the cabin, and a moment later she returned and whispered, "There are about a dozen bandits inside. They're drinking and chatting and haven't noticed us."
"Action!" Su Ting gave the order, and the team members rushed into the small house, catching the bandits off guard.
After a fierce battle, the bandits were all driven back. Su Ting and Rena found the important item—an ancient scroll—and handed it to the old man.
"Thank you for your help. This scroll is very important to me," the old man said gratefully.
“Now, please keep your promise and lead us safely out of this forest,” Su Ting said.
"Follow me." The old man nodded and led the group along a secluded path.
Soon they came to an open area where moonlight shone on the grass, illuminating the path ahead.
“This is the road to safety,” the old man said. “Follow this road and you will find the exit.”
"Thank you again for your help," Su Ting said gratefully.
"You are all brave people. May you have a safe journey," the old man said with a smile, then turned and left.
“Let’s keep going,” Su Ting said to his team.
"Captain, look over there!" Xiao Shi suddenly pointed to a patch of bushes not far away.
"What?" Su Ting looked over in confusion.
A slight rustling sound came from the bushes, as if something was moving. Su Ting and his team quickly went on alert.
“Who’s there?” Su Ting shouted.
"It's me, Su Ting." A familiar voice came from the bushes, and a figure slowly walked out.
"Lena, it's you again?" Su Ting asked in surprise.
“I’m here to tell you that there are dangers on the road ahead,” Lena said seriously. “We must be extra careful.”
"What danger?" Su Ting asked nervously.
“The enemy has already set a trap ahead,” Lena explained. “We must find a way to get around it.”
"Then what do we do?" Su Ting asked anxiously.
“I have a plan, but I need your cooperation,” Lena said.
“Go ahead and say it, we’ll listen to you,” Su Ting said firmly.
“Okay, let’s set off now,” Lena said.
The group embarked on their journey once again, their hearts filled with anticipation and nervousness.
Chapter 887 Confirmation Time
"What's the plan?" Su Ting asked in a low voice, following closely behind Lena.
“We need to distract them,” Lena said quickly as she walked. “I have a friend who will help us.”
"What friend?" Kevin asked warily.
“A friend you can trust, don’t worry.” Lena turned back and gave him a reassuring look. “He’ll create some chaos so we can get around the trap.”
“We need to split into two teams,” Su Ting quickly decided. “Lena and Xiao Shi, you two come with me. The rest of you, led by Kevin, will proceed along the original route. Lena, you’re in charge of contacting your friends and confirming the time.”
Everyone nodded in agreement and immediately began to act. Lena took out a small communication device and whispered into the other end, "Wind, are you ready?"
A moment later, a steady voice came from the device: "Ready at any time. What do you need to do?"
“Proceed according to plan,” Lena said succinctly. “We need to avoid the traps ahead and make sure everything goes smoothly.”
"Understood," the other party replied. "I will do my best."
Su Ting led his squad cautiously ahead, hearing sounds coming from nearby. It was the wind making noises to mislead the enemy. Su Ting's heart quickened; they were approaching danger.
"Captain, there are footprints here, and they look quite new," Rena reported in a low voice.
“Very good, this means we are on the right track.” Su Ting nodded slightly. “Continue forward, but be even more careful.”
Soon they came to a clear fork in the road; one side was a dense jungle, the other an open area. Su Ting knew that the enemy's trap was likely set in the open.
"Captain, what should we do?" Xiao Shi asked nervously.
“Let’s go this way,” Su Ting pointed to the dense jungle. “Let’s go around from here.”
"Okay, follow me." Su Ting led the way into the jungle. The dense forest was dimly lit, and they could only rely on flashlights to orient themselves. Everyone remained vigilant, not daring to relax their guard for a moment.
Meanwhile, on another road, Kevin and his remaining team encountered some minor trouble. Although most of the enemies were drawn to the area where the wind was, a few patrols were still wandering around.
“Everyone stay calm,” Kevin whispered. “Don’t alert them. We’ll proceed slowly.”
Just as they were about to pass through the danger zone, they suddenly heard footsteps behind them.
"Who's there?" Kevin immediately became alert.
A figure emerged from the shadows of the trees, slowly approaching and revealing its face.
“It’s me,” the man said softly, “Lena’s friend, Wind.”
"Are you the wind?" Kevin relaxed slightly. "How did you get here?"
“I’ll meet you,” the wind said calmly, “and make sure you get through safely.”
"And now?" Kevin asked.
“We need to get out of here quickly,” Feng said, glancing around at the surroundings. “The enemy will soon discover the commotion over there, and we don’t have time to waste.”
The group quickly adjusted their course and continued along a hidden path guided by the wind. Soon, they met up with Su Ting's team in an open area.
"How did it go?" Su Ting asked, looking at Kevin and his teammates who had returned.
Chapter 888 There's still one thing to do.
“It was resolved smoothly,” Kevin replied, “thanks to the help of the wind.”
“We are too,” Su Ting nodded. “Now, let’s get out of this forest quickly.”
“Wait a minute,” Lena interrupted Su Ting, “we have one more thing to do.”
"What is it?" Su Ting asked, puzzled.
“We’re going to meet someone,” Lena said, a hint of mystery in her eyes. “It’s very important for our upcoming trip.”
"Who is it?" Su Ting pressed.
“You’ll see when we get there,” Lena smiled. “I promise you won’t be disappointed.”
Su Ting hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded. "Okay, we'll go with you."
As the moonlight rose higher, the group followed Rena on an unknown journey.
“We’ll be there soon,” Lena said softly. “Trust me, that person will help us solve a lot of problems.”
"I hope so," Su Ting thought to himself, gripping the hilt of his sword tightly.
The road ahead is still full of unknowns, but they have no way back.
"We're here." Lena stopped in front of a dense thicket of trees, gently parting a few leaves to reveal a hidden path. Su Ting and Kevin exchanged a glance, but still led their respective teams after her.
After passing through the narrow path, the view suddenly opened up, and a dilapidated wooden hut sat quietly in an open space. A middle-aged man stood outside, wearing a faded work uniform and a wide-brimmed hat, watching them approach silently.
“Welcome everyone,” the middle-aged man greeted them with a smile. “I am Marcus.”
“Marcus?” Su Ting eyed the seemingly ordinary man warily. “How will you help us?”
Marcus chuckled softly, removed his hat, revealing short, silver-white hair. "I'm a mechanic, and also a spy. I know about your operations, and I know you need help. Please come in; there are some things we need to discuss face-to-face."
Stepping into the cabin, the furnishings were simple yet tidy. Several blueprints and some parts were laid out on a wooden table. Marcus took some drinks from the cupboard and handed them to everyone.
"Let's have something to drink, we have a lot to talk about," he said, sitting down at the table.
