Su Ting and his two companions approached the village silently, using the surrounding trees for cover as they observed the village. The villagers seemed oblivious to them, busy working in the fields, while children played at the village entrance.
“Nothing seems amiss,” Kevin said in a low voice. “We can sneak in.”
"Be careful," Lena warned. "The enemy may have already infiltrated this area."
The three of them entered the village cautiously, trying not to attract the villagers' attention. They found a place that looked like a general store, with a few pieces of dried meat hanging at the entrance and some common farm tools on display.
“I should be able to buy something here,” Kevin said, pushing open the door and stepping into the store.
The shop was dimly lit, with only a single oil lamp flickering weakly. The shop owner, a middle-aged man, was sitting behind the counter smoking a pipe. When someone entered, he slightly raised his head, a hint of wariness flashing in his eyes.
"What would you like to buy?" the shopkeeper asked, his voice tinged with caution.
“We’d like some food and water,” Su Ting replied, glancing around the shop. “Is there anything you can sell us?”
The shop owner nodded, took out several packets of dry food and a few water bottles from the cabinet, and handed them to them. "Is this enough?"
"That's enough, thank you." Su Ting took the things and handed them to Kevin and Lena behind him.
Just as they were about to leave, a commotion suddenly broke out outside. Several figures rushed past, seemingly searching for something.
"Oh no, it looks like enemy pursuers are coming!" Kevin said in a low voice.
"Quick, hide!" Su Ting quickly gave the order, and the three of them swiftly hid in a corner.
The shop owner looked at them, a hint of hesitation flashing in his eyes, but ultimately he didn't say anything.
The footsteps outside grew closer, and a group of soldiers in black uniforms rushed into the village, searching everywhere.
"Did you see any suspicious people pass by?" a leading soldier questioned the villagers in a stern and fierce voice.
The villagers shook their heads, pretending they knew nothing.
Su Ting and the others held their breath, not daring to make a sound. Just then, the shop owner suddenly stood up and walked towards the door.
“Sir,” the shopkeeper said respectfully, “a few people came into my shop to buy things just now, and I have already told them to leave.”
Upon hearing this, the soldiers all turned their gazes to the shop, only to find it empty. After checking it carefully once more, they left with no choice.
"Thank you, Uncle," Kevin said gratefully, relieved.
“It’s nothing,” the shopkeeper waved his hand. “I hate those guys too. You guys should leave now and get out of here quickly.”
"Thank you for your help." Su Ting nodded, and the three of them quickly left the shop to meet up with their companions outside.
“We need to get out of here quickly,” Su Ting said in a low voice. “The enemy’s pursuit continues.”
“No problem,” Feng nodded in agreement. “We know a safe route.”
"Let's set off then," Su Ting said. "We can't waste any more time."
Chapter 896 Secret Base
The group quickly disappeared along the path outside the village, leaving behind a wisp of dust. They moved through the jungle, gradually moving away from the village.
"Where does this road lead?" Lena asked, following closely behind Su Ting.
“There’s a hidden ravine ahead, with a secret outpost there,” Su Ting replied. “We’ll rest there for a while.”
“I hope it’s really safe there,” Kevin sighed. “This place is dangerous everywhere.”
“Don’t worry,” Su Ting encouraged, “as long as we stand together, we will definitely find a way.”
The group moved quickly through the dense forest and soon arrived at the mountain hollow that Su Ting had mentioned. There was a hidden cave there, its entrance cleverly concealed by vines and branches, making it difficult to find.
"This is it," Su Ting said, pushing aside the camouflage at the cave entrance and gesturing for everyone to enter.
The cave was spacious and dry, with several torches burning on the walls, creating a particularly warm atmosphere. The group had finally found a relatively safe haven.
"Everyone can take a break first," Su Ting said. "We can discuss the next steps later."
"Great, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief," Kevin exclaimed, finding a place to sit down.
“But we can’t relax for too long,” Su Ting cautioned. “The enemy won’t let us off easily.”
“That’s right.” Su Ting nodded. “We must find a plan for the next step as soon as possible.”
"Let's rest for a while first," Lena said with a smile. "We're all tired too."
"Yes, indeed." Su Ting smiled. "Everyone has worked hard."
The cave fell silent, broken only by the occasional soft sound. Su Ting stood at the cave entrance, gazing into the darkness outside, silently contemplating his future path.
"No matter what, we must persevere," Su Ting murmured to himself.
“Yes, keep going,” Kevin chimed in, his voice filled with determination.
The two exchanged a smile, their weariness seemingly dispelled by this strength. They knew that no matter how difficult the road ahead, as long as they were united, they would always find a way out.
“We will definitely succeed,” Su Ting said firmly.
“Yes, we will definitely succeed.” Kevin nodded in agreement.
They continued to rest inside the cave, awaiting their next adventure. And this journey had only just begun.
Su Ting stood at the cave entrance, gazing into the darkness outside, silently contemplating his future. He turned to look at the others and found that they had all found a place to sit, their faces showing exhaustion yet a hint of determination.
"No matter what, we must persevere," Su Ting murmured to himself, as if encouraging himself.
“Yes, hang in there,” Kevin chimed in, his voice filled with determination. “We’ll definitely find a way out.”
The two exchanged a smile, their weariness seemingly dispelled by the power within them. Kevin stood up, patted Su Ting on the shoulder, and walked deeper into the cave, finding a corner to sit down and close his eyes to rest.
Lena walked over and gently sat down next to Su Ting. "What are you thinking about?" she asked softly.
“I’m thinking about what to do next,” Su Ting replied. “We can’t hide here forever; we must find another safe base as soon as possible.”
“I understand,” Lena nodded. “But we also need to rest; everyone is tired from the journey.”
Chapter 897 You Always Work So Hard
“You’re right,” Su Ting sighed. “It’s just that time is running out, and I don’t know how much time we have left to waste.”
"Don't worry, we'll find a way," Lena comforted her. "You're always working so hard; sometimes you should relax a bit."
Su Ting smiled and nodded. "Thank you, Lena."
"You're welcome," Lena said with a smile. "We're all working towards the same goal."
Just then, Su Ting walked over, a hint of worry in his eyes. "Su Ting," he said in a low voice, "I think we should come up with a detailed plan as soon as possible. We can't keep hiding like this."
“I know,” Su Ting nodded, “but our resources are limited and our information is insufficient.”
“Then let’s gather some intelligence first,” Su Ting suggested. “We can send a few people to investigate the nearby villages and towns to see if we can find any clues.”
"Good idea," Su Ting agreed, "but we must be careful and not reveal our whereabouts."
"Understood," Su Ting nodded. "I will make the arrangements."
"You've worked hard." Su Ting patted Su Ting on the shoulder. "We all need to be prepared, as we may need to take action at any time."
“No problem,” Su Ting said firmly. “We will be careful.”
After speaking, Su Ting began to discuss the specific action plan with the other team members, making sure that everyone understood their mission.
Meanwhile, Lena and Kevin were discussing what to do next. Lena took out a map and carefully studied the surrounding terrain, trying to find a safer route.
“This place looks rather secluded, suitable for us to stay here for a while,” Lena said, pointing to a mark on the map.
“Yes, this direction is indeed not easy to be discovered,” Kevin nodded in agreement. “But we can’t let our guard down.”
“Of course,” Lena said, “we have to stay vigilant at all times.”
Just as they were discussing, Feng suddenly came in from the cave entrance, carrying some dry rations and a water bottle. "Everyone, come and eat something to replenish your strength," he shouted.
Everyone gathered around and began to eat some simple food while chatting about their feelings and thoughts.
“This place is really nice,” Lena said between bites. “I hope we can stay here a little longer.”
“I hope so,” Kevin laughed. “But we also have to be realistic; we can’t always be here.”
“Well said,” Su Ting continued. “We need to recover our strength as soon as possible before we can move on.”
“That’s right.” Su Ting nodded. “We need to gather intelligence as soon as possible and find our next stronghold.”
“Then let’s set off tomorrow,” Su Ting said in a deep voice. “We can’t delay any longer.”
"Okay." Everyone answered in unison, their eyes filled with determination.
Night fell, and the cave was silent. Su Ting stood at the entrance, gazing at the endless darkness outside, silently praying, "I hope we can find a way out."
"Su Ting, what are you thinking about?" Lena's voice came from behind.
“It’s nothing.” Su Ting turned around and looked at Lena. “I was just thinking about what we should do next.”
“No matter what happens, we will face it together,” Lena said firmly. “We will succeed.”
“Yes, we will definitely succeed,” Su Ting replied with a smile.
Chapter 898 Absolutely Must Be Flawless
The flickering firelight inside the cave cast its glow on everyone's faces, seemingly bringing a touch of warmth to the darkness. Su Ting looked around and saw that everyone had finished eating and was resting. He sighed softly, still filled with unease.
