Chapter 892 What's going on?
"A mission?" Su Ting frowned and asked, "Who are you on? Who are you working for?"
“You don’t need to know that,” the man in black sneered. “You’ll understand soon enough.”
Suddenly, a slight tremor came from one side of the passage, followed by a huge rock falling from the sky, striking two enemies squarely. The enemy was thrown into disarray, and several of their companions rushed forward to check on them.
"What's going on?" Su Ting looked at the rock in surprise, wondering if there was some new development.
“It could be caused by geological activity,” Marcus said, “but it could also be man-made.”
Taking advantage of this opening, Su Ting quickly gave the order: "Now is our chance to counterattack! Charge!"
The group sprang into action, charging towards the remaining enemies. Feng once again took the lead, his dagger flashing coldly in the darkness, each attack precise and deadly. Kevin and Su Ting coordinated perfectly, one defending, the other attacking, forcing the enemy back step by step. Lena, meanwhile, nimbly weaved among the enemies, seeking opportunities to deliver a fatal blow.
"Hold on!" Su Ting shouted. "We can't let the enemy gain the upper hand!"
Just then, the leader of the men in black suddenly threw out a strange device, which landed on the ground and emitted puffs of white smoke. The entire passageway instantly filled with thick smoke, severely impairing visibility.
"Watch out for poison gas!" Marcus shouted. "Cover your noses!"
Everyone quickly covered their mouths and noses with their hands, but still felt some discomfort in their throats. The enemy seized the opportunity to launch a counterattack, attempting to gain the upper hand under the cover of smoke.
"We can't let them succeed!" Su Ting shouted. "We must find a breakthrough!"
"I'll clear the way!" Feng said decisively, rushing forward as his knife flashed through the smoke. Kevin and Su Ting followed closely behind, and the three of them worked together to open a new passage.
"Keep up!" Lena shouted, grabbing her teammate and quickly crossing the smoke zone.
"There's an exit here!" Su Ting discovered a hidden little cave and led everyone into this temporarily safe place.
“It seems we need to replan our route,” Marcus said in a deep voice. “The enemy may pursue us again.”
“We need to get out of here quickly,” Su Ting said.
“That’s right, but we can’t act rashly.” Su Ting quickly devised a new plan in his mind. “We need to find a safer exit.”
Inside the passageway, the thick smoke gradually dissipated, but a pungent smell still lingered in the air. Everyone covered their mouths and noses, breathing cautiously.
"Is everyone alright?" Lena asked with concern, checking on her teammates.
"I'm fine, just a little choked up." Kevin shook his head and took a deep breath. "This smoke is disgusting."
“We need to get out of here as soon as possible,” Su Ting said, her eyes filled with vigilance. “The enemy won’t give up easily.”
“Yes, they definitely have a backup plan.” Feng nodded in agreement, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings. “We need to find a safe route to leave.”
“I’ll lead the way,” Su Ting said in a deep voice. He quickly opened the map he carried with him. “We can enter the underground river system through this hidden little cave.”
"An underground river?" Su Ting frowned. "The environment there is very complex, and there may be unknown dangers."
Chapter 893 Underground River System
“It’s better than being hunted down here,” Kevin said. “We have to take the risk.”
“That’s right.” Su Ting nodded. “We don’t have much time to waste. Let’s go, everyone stick close to me.”
The group quickly followed Su Ting through the hidden cave and into the dark, damp underground river system. The passage was narrow, the water flowed rapidly, and the light was extremely dim, barely illuminating the way forward only with the beam of their flashlights.
"It's so slippery here." Lena walked carefully ahead, her dagger gripped tightly in her hand. "Everyone, watch your step."
“No problem,” Kevin replied, glancing warily around. “Although the environment here is harsh, it might also prevent the enemy from finding us.”
“But we cannot let our guard down,” Su Ting cautioned. “The enemy may have ways to track us.”
“How will they chase us?” Feng asked, his eyes fixed on the map in his hand. “We can mislead them by following the direction of the underground river.”
“Good idea,” Su Ting agreed. “We can change course somewhere, or use underwater cover.”
Just then, a faint sound of water came from ahead, followed by the flashes of several flashlights in the distance.
"The enemy!" Su Ting exclaimed in a low voice, "They've found us!"
"Quickly, split up!" Su Ting ordered swiftly. "We'll split into two teams and each find an exit."
“I’ll be on your team,” Kevin said firmly, patting Su Ting on the shoulder. “We can look out for each other.”
“Okay, I’ll team up with Su Ting,” Feng replied, his eyes resolute.
“Lena and I will provide cover,” Marcus said in a deep voice. “We’ll find a way to get rid of them.”
“Okay, proceed according to plan.” Su Ting nodded. “Make contact immediately once a safe exit is found.”
The group immediately split up, with Su Ting and Kevin continuing along a branch of the river with a stronger current. The sound of the water masked their footsteps, and in the darkness, the two moved forward cautiously, trying not to make a sound.
"Did you hear that?" Kevin asked in a low voice. "It sounds like someone is talking."
“Yes, the sound is coming from the left.” Su Ting listened intently. “They are nearby.”
“We need to find a secluded spot to observe,” Kevin suggested. “To see how many of them there are.”
The two quickly found a protruding rock, hid in the shadows, and observed the situation not far away through the gaps.
“There are at least four people,” Kevin said in a low voice. “They’re coming this way.”
“It seems we need to find a way to shake them off,” Su Ting said thoughtfully. “Let’s try to take advantage of the terrain.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Su Ting noticed a narrow passage ahead with a rapid current and natural obstacles formed by rocks on both sides.
“There’s a narrow passage over there,” Su Ting pointed out. “We can try diving into the water and using the underwater currents to move forward.”
"Isn't this too risky?" Kevin frowned. "The current is so strong, it's easy to get swept away."
“But this is our only chance,” Su Ting said firmly. “We must seize this opportunity.”
“Okay, I believe you.” Kevin nodded, then took off his jacket and prepared to go diving.
The two took a deep breath, quickly submerged, and secured themselves to the rocks with ropes, slowly moving deeper into the underground river. The water was icy cold, but with their strong will, they pressed on step by step.
Chapter 894 I Contacted Others
Just as they were about to reach a more open area, a sudden tremor came from the water, followed by several pebbles falling from above, creating ripples.
"What's going on?" Kevin surfaced and whispered, "Have they discovered our presence?"
“I don’t know, but we have no way out now,” Su Ting said in a deep voice. “Let’s keep moving forward and find a safe place before we talk about it.”
The two quickly adjusted their breathing, submerged again, and continued navigating the underground river. The current gradually calmed, and finally, they saw a relatively open body of water ahead. Sunlight streamed through the cave entrance, illuminating the water's surface and making it appear exceptionally bright.
"That should be an exit," Kevin said excitedly. "We did it!"
"It's still a little short," Su Ting said in a deep voice. "Don't be too happy yet, let's check the situation first."
The two quickly swam to the exit, climbed onto the shore, and discovered that it was a hidden cave with the entrance covered by dense vines, making it difficult to spot.
"It's safe here for now." Su Ting breathed a sigh of relief and took out his communicator. "I'll contact the others and have them gather here."
"I hope they're all safe." Kevin sighed, his eyes filled with worry for his companions.
Just then, a soft footstep sound came from outside the cave, and then a familiar figure appeared at the cave entrance.
"Are you two alright?" Su Ting's voice came in, his face showing a hint of fatigue. "We finally managed to shake off those guys."
"Thankfully, everyone's safe." Su Ting smiled and put away his communicator. "Is everyone here?"
“They’re all here.” Lena walked over from behind. “Marcus and the others are behind us.”
"Thank goodness, we're finally safe." Su Ting breathed a sigh of relief, but he knew in his heart that this was only a brief respite.
"What do we do next?" Su Ting asked, a hint of worry in his eyes.
“We can’t stay here any longer,” Su Ting said in a deep voice. “We must find another safe base as soon as possible.”
“Then let’s go,” Kevin said firmly. “No matter what difficulties we encounter, we’ll face them together.”
The group quickly packed their belongings, preparing to continue their journey. Su Ting glanced back at the cave entrance, silently praying, "I hope things will go more smoothly this time."
"Let's go, everyone." Su Ting led the group toward the next unknown journey.
Su Ting led the group away from the hidden cave and along the winding path deeper into the forest. Sunlight filtered through the treetops, casting dappled shadows, and birdsong echoed through the woods, but the group remained tense.
"The environment here is complicated, everyone be careful." Su Ting vigilantly surveyed his surroundings, his weapon ready to deal with any emergencies.
"I'll lead the way," Feng volunteered. He nimbly scouted ahead, occasionally turning back to check on his teammates' positions.
"Stay close," Kevin said to Lena, protecting her tightly. "Don't fall behind."
Lena nodded, holding the dagger, and warily looked around. "Don't worry, I'll be careful."
The group continued onward, passing through dense woods, and finally arrived at an open area. In the distance, a small village could be seen faintly, with wisps of smoke rising from its chimneys, adding a touch of life to the tranquil scene.
"Where is that?" Marcus asked, pointing to the village. "It looks like an ordinary village."
Chapter 895 The Enemy's Eyes
“Let’s go take a look,” Su Ting said in a deep voice. “Maybe we can find some supplies and information.”
“Good idea,” Su Ting agreed, “but there could also be enemy spies.”
“We’ll split up,” Su Ting quickly arranged. “Kevin, Lena, and I will go into the village first, and you guys will provide backup outside.”
"Understood." Feng nodded, then found a secluded spot with Su Ting and Marcus to lie in wait.
