Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star

Chapter 100 - Ch. 100 Holding Hands

Chleo was stunned on the way to Max's place. They passed through a wide road with meadows on both sides of the road. It seemed that Max lived in a less crowded suburb.

"I didn't expect your house to be so far from the city."

"I don't like crowds," Max replied with a smile.

Chleo knew this very well. Max doesn't like crowds. But why did this man always accompany her in a crowded place?

"Then why do you often go to town?"

"To see you, of course."

A blush lit up Chleo's face uncontrollably. As the days go by, Max became more and more outspoken towards her, making her skipped a beat countlessly.

Max glanced sideways at her, then focused his attention on the road. He smiled amusedly and couldn't help but fondly stroke the top of the girl's head next to him.

Chleo smiled shyly, feeling a gentle caress on the top of her head. She loved it when someone patted her head. It felt like she is loved and has the support of that person.

But when Max stroked her head, it felt very different. The feeling she got was not the feeling she felt when her father or uncle patted her head.

On the other hand, Max sighed in resignation, realizing that his hand had moved on its own without his brain's command. Inevitably, his body aced on its own, following his heart rather than his brain.

It was as if his body has known Chleo inside out and acted on its own to give the comfort she needed. Moreover, his heart was filled with delight and eased every time he saw the girl laugh.

Max held out one hand towards Chleo, making the girl confused. It was time for him to look for answers to the questions that filled his brain at this moment.

"Can I hold your hand?"

Chleo was sure that if her heart could move, it would unquestionably jump out of place and bounce for joy.

"I can't?" Max asked in a slightly disappointed tone which made Chleo stutter.

"You... you can." Chleo hesitantly and nervously put her left hand on top of the man's right hand.

Her chest felt tight because she could no longer hold her heart beating when the big hand fully cupped her tiny one.

She wasn't this nervous when Alexis held her hand in the past. Why is she now feeling nervous and pounding like crazy when Max is holding her hand? What is the difference?

Secretly Chleo inhaled and exhaled slowly to calm her stormy heart. As she felt she was getting used to the touch of the skin on her hands, Chleo noticed the cold feeling in her palm. Why is Max's hand so cold?

"Your hand is so cold." blurted Chleo making Max exhaled a defeated sigh.

"Oh, sorry. I think the weather is freezing me out." Max tried hard to hide his disappointment. It seemed like Chleo couldn't stand his cold body temperature. Then... she is not the one. "You don't like it do you?" Max tried to pull his hand back but failed because Chleo had restrained it.

How could Chleo let Max let go of their grip just like that?

"Not really. I like it."

Max swallowed hard. Can Chleo handle his cold skin? Does that mean, Chleo is his true love?

In an instant, Max no longer had the red-haired woman in his head, and his heart and mind were now entirely on Chleora.

"You can't stand the cold, can you?" guessed Chleo, earning a lightly chuckle from Max.

Max thought Chleo's question was amusing. He was a blue king with cold energy and ice energy sources as the foundation of his life. In this world, the only person who can travel in any cold weather without wearing thick clothes was only him.

Of course, Max couldn't possibly tell Chleo the secret of his true identity. Maybe someday, but not now. The girl wouldn't believe him and thought he was crazy.

Little did he know, Chleo has been waiting for the arrival of the blue king for almost her whole life.

"Normally, I'm not like this. Maybe I'm not used to the weather in America." was his quick and calm answer.

It wasn't long before Max felt his hands being rubbed quickly yet gently by two tiny hands, then he felt a warm breath gush out of Chleo's mouth. Ah, the girl was trying to warm his super cold hand.

Well, he could have restrained his cold energy so that his skin could have an average temperature like other humans. Restraining the cold energy's flow was like holding your breath. The energy inside him flows smoothly throughout his body, like breathing every day to inhale oxygen.

It was easy for Max to hold back his cold energy, but he would fall ill if he had to hold his 'breath' constantly.

At first, he often held his 'breath' when his body was close to Chleo's. Maybe subconsciously, he didn't want Chleo to hate him or was afraid of his cold body temperature, so he purposely made sure his temperature was 'normal' first before approaching the girl.

When shaking hands first at the airport as a form of self-introduction, or when he pulled Chleo out of the gang of girls at Seattle University, and when Max taught Chleo how to shoot zombies in an arcade game. Max holds his 'breath' while doing all of that.

Furthermore, another girl who wasn't his true love would fall weak if she came into direct contact with his cold energy.

If he only knew Chleo could survive and not fall ill, Max wouldn't have to hold his breath every time he was with the girl.

"How strange. Why is it still cold?" Chleo was confused because the cold skin of the young man's hand next to her did not warm up.

Max grabbed Chleo's hand and bringing it down, and settling casually on Chleo's lap. He didn't know that his actions made the girl next to him blush even more. Instead, it was Chleo who felt her body temperature had risen. She felt her face burning and smoke rising from the top of her head.

"I already feel warm. Thank you."

"Oo." That was all Chleo could give in response. She had to calm her heartbeat first… for the umpteenth time.

Really. This man was indeed very talented at making her heart like being chased by a fierce dog.

Too embarrassed to look up, Chleo just stared at the two different-sized hands intertwined on her lap. She never thought, even though the skin of Max's hand was icy, she felt warm being held by the man.

Nevertheless, thousands of whys filled inside her head.

Why did Max hold her hand? Why is Max holding her like a man holding his girlfriend's hand? Does this mean their relationship is already going that way?

Chleo stole glances at the man who was still focused on the street. Thick jade-like black hair, skin as white as snow, and the perfect side of the jaw, strong hands that masterfully control the steering wheel. Ah, how can there be such a perfect man in this world?

"Chleo,"

"Hm?"

"If you keep looking at me like that, I'll be embarrassed too."

Chleo choked on her own saliva and almost coughed. She didn't expect Max to notice her stare at all.

Chleo immediately turned her gaze back to the street because she was too embarrassed. It felt like she wanted to dig a hole so she could hide from this man.

Max chuckled as he saw Chleo fluttered and looked away from him. He slipped his fingers between Chleo's, causing Chleo to jump out of her chair. Now Chleo felt the cold temperature between her fingers, and the cold skin of the young man's palm covered her hands thoroughly.

Chleo felt like she was submerging her hands in a tub of water filled with ice. Surprisingly, she didn't feel cold nor hate it at all. On the contrary, Chleo liked it very much. Her heart drummed wildly and uncontrollably.

Max tightened his grip and ran his thumb over Chleo's smooth skin, making a certain heart got wild even more.

What's this? What is this man doing? Please stop torturing her poor heart. She was not strong enough to have repeated heart attacks.

In the end, Chleo got up the courage to ask. She wanted to confirm the current status of their relationship instead of being ambiguous about it.

"Uhm... Max?"

"Yes?"

"We… are friends. Or… or…" Chleo wanted to be more than friends, but… Max didn't say anything, and she was pretty sure they were still friends.

But… what kind of friends holding hands like this?

Chleo wanted to ask but didn't dare to do so for fear of embarrassing herself.

"We have arrived."

Max suddenly released his grip and turned off the engine as soon as he finished parking his car. Chleo's mood turned cloudy and disappointed.

See? She was too big-headed. How could Max like her as a girl? Moreover, the man already knew her super reckless nature.
