Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star
Chapter 124 - Ch. 124 Diego's Warning
Max's first impression when he met Diego for the first time was a pleasant one. At first, Diego was cynical about him but not against him. Whatever the boy did was aimed at driving the strange man away from his beloved naive sister.
Max could see what kind of family environment accompanied Chleo's growth through the interaction of the two Regnz siblings. He didn't think that Vincentius Regnz, who had no motivation to live in his younger days, was able to create a warm family like this.
He felt proud of himself for granting Zigfried's request to check on Vincent's recovery from acute depression.
When he first met Vincent, the man's eyes seemed almost completely extinguished. Vincent went to college, as usual, ate regularly, but his eyes looked dead. Young Vincent lived like a puppet controlled by humans to live.
Sooner or later, the man would reach his limit, and his life would be ruined. Max himself didn't know how to lift the man's enthusiasm for life. He just accompanied the young fellow patiently while telling him about his life experiences, hoping it could trigger Vincent's motivation.
Vincent never complained or interrupted, and he just sat quietly listening to him speak. Until one day, he saw Vincent fiddling with Zig's analog camera.
Max could see a hint of life in Vincent's eyes every time the no-motivation man's hand roamed around trying to figure out how to use the camera. In the end, Max himself taught Vincent to use his analog camera like he taught Zigfried when he was still seeing his adopted daughter.
It was like Max was the elder brother Vincent never had.
Gradually Vincent began to respond to his stories and voiced his heart. The light from his once extinguished eyes was now gleaming again, filled with new hope and a meaningful life purpose.
Vincent's eyes at that time were exactly the same as Diego's when he saw the boy's eyes for the first time—filled with curiosity and warm light. The boy grew up while adoring his sister and filled with genuine familial love.
It was all proven when Diego deliberately went with them on his first date with Chleo. Their affection for each other was not feigned, and they cherished each other deeply.
For a moment, Max was envious. He didn't have any siblings he could look up to or take care of. The adopted brother he had was jealous of him to the point of hating him.
But when Max looked straight into Diego's eyes when the young boy had just woken up from his hospital stupor, Max noticed something had changed in those eyes.
The teenager's gaze was sharper as if he had gone through various trials and obstacles in life. Max could still find affection in the boy's eyes when Diego chatted with Chleo, but his eyes seemed more alert, and for some reason, Max felt the boy building an invisible wall to keep him at a distance.
At first, he thought it was just a feeling because Diego was still acting normal towards him. But now…
"I know who you are. So don't ever use your power to threaten my sister."
Max was utterly speechless as if suddenly he didn't understand a common language. His mind was filled with the boy's threatening tone.
Diego knows who he is? But how and since when?
What confused him the most was why did Diego warn him not to use his powers to threaten Chleo?
How could he possibly threaten Chleo? He didn't even like seeing her depressed or scared; how could he use his powers to scare her?
"What are you talking about?"
"Nothing," Diego replied with a thin smile that made Max frown.
He was sure that Diego was only hiding his true feelings and was playing a performance in front of him.
"I decided to give you guys a chance. I will bless you and will not try to separate you."
"You misunderstood me. It doesn't matter whether I have your blessing or not. As long as Chleo wants me to be by her side, I won't let her go. I don't need the chance you gave me."
Since Diego already knew what he was capable of and had given him a warning, Max didn't need to hold himself anymore.
Diego smirked, "I prefer you like this."
"Who are you?" muttered Max unknowingly.
"I'm Chleo's brother." was his straightforward answer in a matter-of-fact tone.
"..." of course, he knew Diego was Chleo's brother. But what he meant was how did Diego find out about his power?
"Until we meet again." Diego grinned from ear to ear as he succeeded in making Maximillian confused to death.
Max continued to stare at the back that was walking away from him. As he had expected, the Diego in front of him was not the Diego he had known all along. The boy has changed since his 16th birthday.
On average, a ruler could maximize the source of his power energy when they reached the age of 16. Is there by any chance that Diego is the yellow king?
It's unlikely that was the case. If Diego were the yellow king, then the boy would recognize him right away and wouldn't be cold and threatening to him like this.
So what caused the child's changing behavior? And again, why did he feel Diego knew him so well? Not because he was the blue king, but more than that. He felt Diego recognized him in his previous life.
Without realizing it, Max tried to dig up his sealed memories. This time he wasn't looking for the image of a red-haired woman, but he was looking for the figure of a person who had a similar frame to Diego.
If he searched for memories of someone else who wasn't that woman, maybe his head wouldn't hurt so much. He tried it and found that the pain was still assaulting his head, but it was quite bearable.
While enduring the pain, Max forced his body to walk to a quieter place while slowly making his body invisible. As soon as he was sure no one had seen him, he snapped his fingers and instantly teleported to his astral world.
He fell right on his bed, and at that moment, he blackened out.
