Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star

Chapter 168 - Ch. 168 A Slight Reluctance

"Uhm… sorry, I took your seat. You can get back to work."

Max held Chleo's tiny hand. "What are you apologizing for? What's mine is also yours. You don't have to hesitate to wear it."

Maximillian couldn't help but smile when he saw Chleo ducking her head with a blush on her face. The girl must not have guessed what he just said.

Of course, Chleo didn't expect it. They had only been in a relationship for less than a month, yet Maximillian's attitude and words seemed to have been in a relationship for years.

Maximillian had not seen Chleo's growth, but he had met Chleo when she was only six years old. He even gave up a small part of his energy to grow camellia flowers on Chleo's birthday..

His life energy represented his presence in his place whenever he wasn't by the girl's side. Even though Maximillian wasn't physically present to celebrate Chleo's birthday, his energy was always there and grew flowers for the girl.

When Max rose from the dead four years ago, Max had no recollection of the little girl and didn't wish to find out. But when his memory has returned, the energy he sent for Chleo has returned to him. All the memories of Chleo celebrating her birthday emerged in his head.

That was why Max had the feeling that he had known Chleo for a long time and understood her habits and preferences very well. No wonder Max was so impatient to take Chleo to be his wife because he had been waiting for this moment for a dozen years.

Max rose to his feet and put one hand on the table, and bent down to peek at Chleo's face.

"Chleo? What's wrong?"

Max tried his best not to smile when he saw the shocked and panicked expression on the girl's face when she lifted her head.

"Your face is red. Do you have a fever?" teased Max in a concerned tone as if he was oblivious to her flustered state.

"It's hot here. Don't you feel it?" Chleo waved her face with both hands as she slowly stepped back.

Max grinned, well aware of what Chleo was up to. He wrapped his arm behind Chleo's waist then pulled her body closer to him, making Chleo squeal in surprise.

Her tiny hands pressed perfectly against his sturdy chest while her light brown eyes shone between confusion and excitement of what would happen next.

Max moved his other hand to brush a strand of Chleo's lock hair using his index finger.

Chleo bit her lip slightly, feeling her heart beating ten times faster than usual. Max's actions today were too extreme for her poor heart.

Why did she feel her lover's advances were twice as intimate as before?

As if the man wasn't satisfied, Max opened his hand and settled his palm to cup Chleo's cheek perfectly.

Chleo was a little taken aback by the super cold temperature on her face before finally starting to calm down. She felt comfortable with the cold skin on her face for some reason. And now she was getting used to their closeness that there was barely a gap between the two.

Every now and then, Chleo glanced at her lover shyly while wondering, how long will they be in this position?

It wasn't that she wanted to end it. On the contrary, she actually liked it. The cold temperature of the young man seemed to overshadow her body, giving her comfort. And also, the smell of fresh pine trees wafted through her nostrils.

Chleo always felt like she had found her home whenever she was near Max. Surprisingly, she also felt nostalgic every time she sensed the pleasant cold temperature from Max's skin. However, she couldn't remember where and when she had experienced it.

Nonetheless, she didn't care and didn't try to dig up her memories. The most important thing right now is that she is with the person who already has her whole heart.

It was just that she was worried that someone else would suddenly enter here. Chleo would be very embarrassed if one of Daphnia's employees saw her cuddling with their chairman.

"Uhm, Max?"

"Hmm?"

"We… we are still in the office," stated Chleo shyly, hoping Max would let her go.

"So?"

Chleo felt like digging a hole to hide her face. Why did this man even ask her back?

"What if… someone came here?"

"No one will come in before I summon them."

"…" that's not my point! Chleo couldn't help but cry inside her heart.

"Calm down. You're too tense." coaxed Max while gently massaging Chleo's back. "Trust me."

Max smiled, seeing his beloved girl start to relax in his arms. He was confused about why the girl always acted like a frightened rabbit when he approached her intimately. That's why he purposely didn't attack her head-on and let her get used to their closeness and skinship.

Chleo was used to their closeness, but there were times when Chleo felt uneasy, as if Max was about to hurt her.

How could Max be hurting her? Max made sure each of his actions didn't threaten or intimidate Chleo, but he felt there was a barrier between them for some unknown reason.

Chleo didn't avoid him, and he was sure that the girl hadn't built any barrier between them. Nevertheless, Max could still feel a slight reluctance from the girl's response to his advance.

After feeling Chleo getting used to their closeness, then Max's hand moved down to the bottom of the girl's chin. He lifted the girl's face with a bent index finger so she couldn't see the other way but him.

Chleo, who had started to feel calm, became nervous again, especially when Max lowered his head by tilting his head. Chleo swallowed hard and closed her eyes.

Unknowingly, her hands that were still perched beautifully in front of Max's chest were now tightly gripping the man's shirt.

The closer the man's peppermint breath became, the louder the ringing in her ears from the pounding of her heart.

Then finally their first kiss that she had been waiting for since yesterday…
