Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star
Chapter 170 - Ch. 170 Complicated Obstacle
After completing all essential documents that required his sign, Maximillian summoned his secretary to retrieve the signed documents.
Then he took a black coat from the coat hanger and put it on as it was time for him to go home. Once his secretary retrieved the files, Max thought the man would walk out, but the secretary didn't.
He was confused to see his secretary didn't come out right away and looked like he wanted to report something.
"Is there anything you want to talk about?"
"It's just... Miss West still hasn't come down."
Max's eyebrow rose at that. Hadn't Chleo left his office two hours ago to return to the girl's office floor? What does it mean Chleo still hasn't come downstairs?
Furthermore, if Chleo didn't come downstairs, why didn't the girl just come back in and stay with him?
Max walked out and went straight along the path until he saw the figure of a girl who was peeking through the glass door where the secretaries' room was.
There were two sides of the room separated by a glass door on this top floor. One was the side of the chairman's office and the head of the secretary or personal assistant, while the latter was the office of the other secretaries led by the head secretary.
The glass door could not be opened arbitrarily. All Chleo needed to do was press the door button, and the lock would instantly open. On the contrary, the person from the lower secretarial office must have an access card to open the glass door. And only a head secretary who had it.
That's why there were two kinds of lifts in Daphnia. One was a regular lift connected to the top floor on the side of the secondary secretary's office. While the other was a personal lift that only had one destination, which was the chairman's office room.
And now Chleo was planning to use the regular employee lift, but she waited to get out when the room behind the glass was quiet. It was almost time to go home, and she could sneak out without attracting attention.
Unfortunately, the secretaries were still there and did not leave this room. Did they all intend to work overtime? Then... how could she go without being seen?
Chleo could go down with the specific lift, but she didn't want to use it. The only thing she could now was only waiting.
Max saw Chleo hiding behind the plant pot table while peeking at the transparent glass door. He smiled in amusement, seeing her desperate situation.
Didn't the girl grasp that the secretaries on the other side noticed her presence and deliberately slowed down in packing their things because they wanted to see Chleo's face?
Their return time had passed since five minutes ago. Usually, they would be enthusiastic and leave right away, but now they are deliberately slow and willing to stay longer even though their time to go home has passed. It was all because they wanted to see Chleo's face.
Maximillian walked silently towards the girl who still hadn't noticed his presence.
He bent down to level his head with her and whispered right next to her tiny ear.
"What are you doing?"
Chleo gasped when Max's face suddenly appeared next to hers.
"You don't want to go home?"
"Of course I want, but…."
"Then let's go home." Max took the girl's hand casually as if it was something very normal to do.
Chleo tried to release her grip as soon as she felt many eyes watching them. Moreover, now that many people were standing behind the glass barrier, Chleo did not dare turn around.
"Max, everyone is watching."
"Just let them see."
"But…"
"Are you ashamed to walk with me?"
"Of course not, but…."
"Chleo, you are Chleora Regnz. You have nothing to fear."
"That's not the case, but…."
"But?"
"You're really unfair to me. It's the first time for me and I… I'm not a person who likes to attract attention."
Max didn't expect that reaction. Now he understood why Chleo's photos were so rare in superfamily magazines. Only Diego's photos were more widely spread in various business magazines as the main successor to the Flex group, while Chleo's were rarely spread on any social media.
At first, he thought it was because Vincent was overprotective of his daughter. It turned out his guess was wrong. It seemed like Chleo had her own fears when many eyes were watching her.
If that's the case, Max didn't want to force her.
"Come here."
Before Chleo could respond to his invitation, Max had opened the coat he was wearing and covered Chleo's tiny body in his arms.
Right now, Chleo's frame was perfectly concealed by the wide coat that Max was wearing. Max casually led the girl in one hand's arms to his glass lift and pressed the button casually.
"Max, what are you doing?"
"No one will see you this way."
What?! It doesn't mean that they didn't attract attention!
Chleo wanted to cry as loud as she could to listen to her lover's most straightforward answer. Not to mention, their bodies were so close to the point Chleo could feel his cold skin and almost could hear his steady beating heart.
On the other hand, the secretaries, primarily women, quickly took a photo where Max embraced Chleo's whole figure.
The photo has gone viral and spread throughout Daphnia's employees and their respective families in such a short time. The next second, the news about the young chairman who had just come to America had a mysterious, beautiful brownish-black hair girlfriend spread throughout Washington and its surroundings.
Elsewhere, Darrell Alvianc, who played billiards with his mafia members, read news from his spies. More specifically, he received photos of a young man and woman holding hands and then standing in front of the elevator door. Then there was a photo of the same man raising his hand by pulling off his one side coat and hiding the girl's body.
Darrel slid back to the first image, where before the man hid the woman's body. Somehow he felt familiar with the figure of the woman.
Once he found a good picture to show the woman's side face, he zoomed in, and his eyes widened.
"Chleora? How can that girl be related to that man?"
Worried that Chleora would have a complex love affair like his cousin, Darrell immediately contacted one of his colleagues, a core member of BZO.
BZO was a Black Zero Operation organization that aimed to monitor the movements of the red king and the development of life-energy sources in this world.
One of the sources of life energy that they were currently keeping an eye on was the blue king energy.
They still hadn't discovered the true identity of the blue king until now, but they did know one thing. The Hammiltons who lived in England were loyal servants who served the blue king for generations.
Darrell got word that Dietrich Hammilton, who was supposed to continue the family business in England, decided to take over Daphnia Fashion in Seattle. Why would a Hamilton move abroad all of a sudden without a significant reason?
He also heard that Dietrich, who had just graduated from his business school in London, was going out with Evangeline Bernz.
Well, since Evangeline wasn't her family, Darrel didn't care nor worry. He did not want to interfere in personal life matters that were not his family. It would be different if Chleora were involved.
Moreover, BZO began to doubt Maximillian's true identity. The spy he installed at Daphnia Fashion told him Maximillian was their newest chairman to replace Rothbert Hammilton. This made him suspect that Maximillian was the current blue king.
Besides, it didn't make sense that Rothbert, a loyal follower of the blue king, would hand over a company to a foreigner who had nothing to do with the blue king.
They were still investigating and yet had found no clue. Even though the blue king wasn't their shutter, BZO tried his best, so there wouldn't be two rulers in the same land.
They got definite news that the yellow king's life energy source appeared in America, so they were sure that the new yellow king was living in America. If Maximillian were indeed the blue king, they would have to make the man leave America no matter what.
Unfortunately… things would get complicated if it turned out that the blue king falls in love with Chleora and the girl also loves that man.
The blue king would not willingly leave, and even if he left the country, Chleo would surely go with him.
Darrell sighed softly. "Kinsey, why does your family always get into such complicated problems?"
The first one who got into a complex obstacle was Kinsey's mother, Chloeny Paxton. She struggled and sacrificed herself to protect her newborn twins.
Years after, Kinsey fell in love, and it turned out the girl was the flame queen, and their relationship almost took Kinsey's life.
Now Kinsey's dear niece was the one who was involved with one of the rulers. It seemed… the Paxtons would never be able to cut ties with the rulers of nature.
Then he took a black coat from the coat hanger and put it on as it was time for him to go home. Once his secretary retrieved the files, Max thought the man would walk out, but the secretary didn't.
