Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star
Chapter 187 - Ch. 187 Kendrich Fall Down The Stairs
Chleo and Diego had arrived at the hospital in the afternoon and headed straight for Kendrich's ward. There they saw the Kinsey family and their parents accompanying Kendrich.
One of Kendrich's legs was bandaged from toe to knee and lifted up with straps. Seeing this sad sight made Chleo feel down.
"Kenken, what happened to you?" Chleo asked gently while stroking his head affectionately.
"This kid doesn't want to see the road ahead and just bouncing around. He didn't pay attention to his footsteps and ended up falling." quipped Kinsey. "I guess I'll have to make you fatter so next time you fall down the stairs you'll just have to roll."
Kendrich, who was still smiling happily at the arrival of his two cousins, now frowned at his father's insinuation.
"Dad, I've always wanted to ask you this. Am I really your son? Why are you always making fun of me?"
Kinsey glared at him in annoyance. "You still dare to ask?"
"Stop it already." Katie coaxed her husband by patting his chest gently.
She knew Kinsey wasn't really mad at his son. She knew her husband was very worried about their son's condition. However, she didn't understand why it was difficult for her husband to dote on their eldest son.
"Kenken, don't say that. Of course you are your father's son. Why do you think otherwise?"
Kendrich didn't answer but his lips were still pouting, which made Chleo smile amused.
"Kenken, I understand your feelings. You're a boy, and that's why your father will be tougher on you. But you know, it was Kinsey who panicked the most when he heard you fall down the stairs."
Kinsey glared at his brother-in-law, who divulged his secret.
"He did?" asked Kendrich in disbelief at Uncle Vincent.
"You can ask your mother if you don't believe me."
Katie nodded slowly with a smile as Kendrich turned to his mother. Kendrich smiled brightly again and patted the blanket with both hands.
"Then next time I'll try to fall from the second floor."
"KENDRICH!!" Katie and Kinsey shouted at the same time, making Kendrich burst out laughing.
"I'm just kidding."
Vincent and the others shook their heads at the uniqueness of Kendrich's nature which was very different from the characteristics of his parents. Really, they didn't understand how Kinsey Alvianc's two children were so different from their parents.
Even in a state lying in the hospital though, Kendrich could still babble at length, making Kinsey stroke his temple. Vincent laughed amused at Kendrich's seemingly endless story. He remembered when Kinsey often left Kendrich to his wife when the child was a toddler; Vincent felt frustrated hearing the boy's incoherent babbling.
Who would have thought that the boy never got tired of talking at length, even at the age of eleven? No wonder Kinsey used to love leaving his son to Vincent with the excuse of wanting to be alone with Katie. Apparently he also felt frustrated hearing the endless babbling of his son.
Only Katie and Cathy could be patient and respond to all of Kenken's ramblings.
When visiting hours were over, Vincent and the others said goodbye to go home first and only Kinsey and Katie stayed with Kendrich. On the other hand, Darrel has picked up Melodie and would stay with Vincent and Cathy.
Chleo also had to go back to Seattle because she had morning class the next day. Vincent sent his driver and several bodyguards to take Chleo home accompanied by Diego, who still wanted to chat with his sister.
"I thought you guys were already back to New York. What are you doing in Washington?" Chleo asked curiously.
"Didn't papa tell you? Papa wants to meet Max so…"
"So you guys came here? Then why is Uncle Kinsey also here?"
"How should I know? Maybe it has something to do with Uncle Darrell."
"Then what are you hiding with Max?"
"Ah?"
"You think I don't know that you guys secretly keep in touch behind my back?"
"…" Yes. Diego really thought that his brother wouldn't find out.
Since the kidnapping of Chleo at the Hamilton hotel, Max and Diego had been secretly working together to track down the existence of rogue Vectis in this world.
Since Diego didn't want to involve his family regarding this otherworldly creature, the only help he could seek was Yuna and Maximillian as one of the rulers of this world.
However, they didn't tell Chleo about their investigation and surveillance to protect Chleo through Vectis and Falcon in the sky. They both agreed that they didn't want to make Chleo panic or feel too afraid. They wanted to let Chleo be able to live carefree and laugh out loud like now.
So how did Chleo know that he had frequent contact with Maximillian?
"What are you talking about, sister?" Diego looked confused and clueless even though his heart was restless, afraid that his sister would find out.
"I'm pretty sure I've heard your name mentioned when Max called someone. I thought you were the one he called."
Diego still wore a confused look while his heartfelt relief. Ah, his sister was just speculating. Who would have thought that this Chleo had sharp instincts too?
As he recalled, the red-haired Chleo was utterly insensitive and tended to be more suspicious and wary only for her own sake.
"No. It's just your feelings." Diego answered casually. "By the way, is the person named Ashley still bothering you?"
"Nope. In fact, I didn't see her at all on campus."
"Isn't that great?"
"Hmm. It's good. I can enjoy my final semester in peace."
Diego looked back out the window, watching the trees and buildings go by quickly. It seemed in this life, Chleo and Ashley wouldn't be friends as they used to.
He was glad that this person named Ashley was no longer bothering Chleo, but at the same time he was also feeling restless. Neither he nor Max had found any clues regarding this rogue Vectis that targeted Chleo.
What if the real culprit is Ashley, who hid her Vectis to kill Chleo? But the culprit was a poison expert, and Ashley knew nothing about poison.
Diego just hoped that 'culprit' had nothing to do with this rogue Vectis. If the two were related somehow...
Diego bit his lip in frustration. He doubted he could protect his sister if that were the case. Neither he was sure whether Max or Yuna's Vectis could save Chleo.
One was a crafty Vectis who could lead detectives' investigations into stray at will, while the latter was a poison expert who could kill someone in a matter of seconds.
If Chleo were endangered by the same poison, even a blue king or a red king would not be able to save Chleo. The rulers of nature cannot expel poison from the human body.
Not long after, Yuna texted her something unexpected, causing his brow to frown with interest.
'The blue king's memories has returned.'
