Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star

Chapter 268 - Ch. 268 Can We End It Here?

After escorting Max's acquaintance back to his home country, Maximillian looked at Chleo with an unfathomable look.

Chleo thought Max was blaming her for interrupting her meeting with the man's business partner, so she awkwardly scratched her neck.

But this was not entirely her fault. This was all because her mother gave the impression that Max was going to leave her for good.

Above all, how did her mother know that Max was currently at the airport?

"Chleo, how did you get here?"

"That… my uncle brought me here."

"I mean… why are you here?"

"To keep you from leaving. I thought you were going back to England without taking me, so… I came here to stop you from leaving."

"Don't you want me to leave? Moreover, I saw you look more than happy with Alexis. Why do you want to stop me from leaving?"

Chleo swallowed hard when she felt an uneasy attack in her heart. She felt a sharp knife pierce through her soul when she heard the cold tone in the man's voice.

"Max, you misunderstood. Alexis and I are like nothing in your mind. I came to him because I wanted to give him a firm refusal."

"A firm refusal? It's not like he proposed to you, right?"

"…"

"He already proposed to you." for some reason, Max's voice sounded like the world was ending. "You really are something at hiding this from me all this time."

Max was sure that by the time he arrived at Seattle airport for the first time, Alexis had already returned to Russia. He never thought that the young man had proposed to Chleo before his departure.

Max felt capable of flying into the sky when Chleo was willing to give him a second chance, but the next second, gravity pulled him down hard as he realized that Alexis and Chleo were on good terms before meeting him.

He felt that no matter what he did, the patience he had maintained so far had not paid off because the woman he loved was still thinking about another man.

At first, Max was sure enough to handle it, but he was wrong. He couldn't take it, and he could no longer keep up with Chleo.

Max was not a narrow-minded person and imposed his will on others, especially when dealing with women who fill his heart and mind.

He had made a mistake in the past, and he deeply regretted it for forcing Chleo to marry him using the excuse of protecting Chleo from Alexis' evil plans.

That was why he didn't want to make the same mistake and would let her go if Chleo insisted on not giving him a chance.

But in reality, Chleo was willing to give him a chance. Chleo herself took the initiative to tighten her embrace and seemed to be enjoying their dates.

But Max could detect that the girl had no other choice but to accept Max by her side. Max felt that Chleo had to give him a second chance to lessen her guilt towards him.

Max didn't want his relationship with Chleo to be based on guilt. He didn't wish Chleo to feel guilty and made their relationship an obligation she had to fulfill to atone for her tragic life.

Max wished Chleo to be with him because of her own will, not because her conscience compelled her to reciprocate his feelings. That's why Max refrained from touching the girl.

If Chleo still has doubts about her feelings, Max doesn't want to be a jerk by taking advantage of the girl's indecision.

However, he didn't expect that before this; Alexis' relationship with Chleo was so good. Even better than their previous life.

Chleo's family adored Alexis so much, and they have even given the green light for the young man to be a part of her family.

Hearing that Alexis had proposed to Chleo just before his departure for Russia was the ultimate bombshell that broke his heart.

"Axe, I can explain. I…"

"Sorry. But can we end here?" Max's defeated tone made Chleo feel like she had a heart attack.

End? What does it mean?

"Can you give me your answer right now? That way, I will be able to let you go and return to my former life."

"Axe." Chleo coaxed while hugging Max's arm gently.

"Don't call me that."

Chleo never thought the day would come when Max spoke coldly to her. The man pulled his arm from the girl's embrace and immediately walked towards the exit.

But suddenly, his body could not move because Chleo quickly hugged him from behind.

"No. You can't go. Why won't you listen to my explanation? Don't you know how broken my heart was when I heard you were going back to England? Why don't you give me a chance to explain?"

"There's nothing to explain."

"Evil bastard!"

Max was a bit startled to hear a loud voice from the little girl behind his back.

"You asked me to give you a chance, and I did. But when I asked you to give me a chance, why wouldn't you grant it? You are so cruel! You're so unfair!"

Max noticed many pairs of eyes starting to look at them as if they were all watching a drama show.

Max was uncomfortable with the attention he didn't want. He was an immortal and didn't want to appear in public like this. Matters would be complicated if someone filmed this scene and shared it on social networks.

If any of his past acquaintances recognized his face, wouldn't that be extremely dangerous?

"Alright. I will listen to you. Can you let me go first? I'll take you to my house to talk. Okay?" Max gently patted the arm wrapped around his waist, trying to persuade Chleo to let go.

Chleo complied, loosened her grip, and let go of him, making Max sigh in relief. But the next second, it was his arm to be tightly hugged by Chleo as if the girl was afraid that he would just disappear.

Well, Max could just disappear and teleport somewhere else. But clearly, he wouldn't just disappear in a public place like this.

Chleo didn't need to hold onto him. Even if he could leave, he didn't have the will to part with her.

But then again, if he truly wished for Chleo's happiness, then Max could only let her go.

And yet, why was Chleo's eyes reddened as if she had been crying?
