Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star
Chapter 59 - Ch. 59 Chleo West
As promised by Vincent, Chleo was allowed to study in Seattle under the supervision of Darrel's bodyguards. After graduating from high school in New York, Chleo no longer used the name Regnz but used her mother's maiden name. Now she was better known as Chleo West instead of Chleora Regnz.
The reason why Chleo chose Seattle was that one of her cousins, Evangeline, lived in Seattle. She knew that if she wanted to live without using Regnz's name in another place where her father's family didn't live, Vincent would disapprove of it.
Benjamin and Felicia Bernz have been living in Seattle for a long time since they got married. They intended to leave New York, which was used to be the main headquarters of LS.
Since Catherine Regnz destroyed the Stealth satellite with Alpha and Zero's approval, the LS organization was no longer needed.
Not to mention Darrel Alvianc lived in Washington DC, which was only an hour from Seattle. That's why Chleo chose Seattle to live a simple life without worrying about her origins.
In this place, no one knew who Chleo was, except for Evie, Benjamin and Felicia's only daughter.
Chleo and Evie were only a few months apart, so Chleo felt closer to Evie. It's not that she doesn't love other cousins, it's just that... well.. the closest age gap with her was Theo, two years younger than her. As for the female cousins... don't ask. They were all still kids.
It's been two years since Chleo left and went to college in Seattle. Everything went smoothly, and she made a lot of new friends there. Evie also studied at the same campus, only in a different major with her. Chleo majored in painting, while Evie majored in NBE.
Alexis also visited her once a month, and their relationship was getting closer. Chleo felt comfortable and liked Alexis' personality. Evie even often teased her about her relationship with Alexis. But Chleo never took it seriously.
After all, her bond with Alexis was not much different from her relationship with her male cousins. Plus, the young man never expressed 'love' or acted like someone in love with her. So the possibility that Alexis had a special feeling for her nevermore cross her mind.
Nonetheless, Chleo felt that there was something different about Alexis' approach. It reminded her of her return a few months ago. It was semester break, and she returned home to New York to spend her vacation time with her family.
Something surprising happened at her home, causing her jaw to fell wide. Alexis was in her house!
Not only that, the young man even looks familiar with her father. Even Diego, who had been cynical about all of Chleo's male friends, was friendly to Alexis.
Aren't her father and brother quite sensitive once a young man approaches her?
When her father idly came to her school when she was still in high school and saw her joking with her male friends, her father put on an intimidating aura that made her friends run away in fear.
Her brother was not much better than her father. Diego Regnz was very naughty and beckoned their cousins to prank her male friends whenever she hung out together.
To her father and brother, no lad worthy of approaching her made Chleo felt dizzy because of their excessive attitude. It was no wonder Chleo often deceived her bodyguards so that she could freely play with her friends without worrying that her father would find out.
But… why did her father and brother suddenly change their stance towards Alexis? Did they get food poisoning?
As if that wasn't enough, her mother even praised Alexis in front of her. Chleo felt as if Alexis was her biological child and not her. It was clear that her family members liked Alexis, and only a fool could not see her mother's intention to make Alexis her family's son-in-law.
Thinking of this made Chleo dizzy. Luckily her father defended her and didn't sell her carelessly. Vincent firmly said that Chleo should focus on her studies first before thinking about a life partner. Vincent had always been an old-fashioned person, maybe because he was of Asia descent, so he still holds ancient traditions.
Even so, no one denied that Vincent had given Alexis the green light to approach his daughter. At this rate, Chleo was left with no other choice.
Furthermore, Chleo only thought of Alexis as an ordinary friend. She didn't know how she felt about the young man. Moreover, Alexis never confessed his feelings.
Well, she was more intimate and more comfortable with Alexis than the others among other male friends. Chleo did suspect that Alexis had feelings for her, but she often brushed this thought away. That's because Alexis acted casual and never expressed his feelings.
Could it be... Alexis also received the same upbringing as Vincent? Both old-fashioned and just waiting for Chleo to graduate from school first before confessing? No wonder her father liked Alexis so much.
Chleo recalled her time with Alexis every time they met. Come to think of it, Alexis was always able to please her. Whether in food or doing something, whenever with the young man, Chleo felt happy and free.
Is this what love is? Chleo had absolutely no idea.
After all, what does it feel like to be in love? Since Chleo had never experienced such a thing as love, she decided to ask her cousin.
"Love? Do you doubt your own feelings for Alexis?" Evie teased when she heard her cousin's question.
"Just answer my question." Chleo urged, lazily rolling her eyes.
"Love is... you will see a million stars above your head, then you will also see pink bubbles surrounding your bae. His face will glow as if a spotlight were shining on him." Evie said in an exaggerated tone as she fixed her gaze on the sky as if she was worshiping something.
"What did this girl say? Why can't I understand? It looks like I asked the wrong person." Chleo muttered to herself and shook her head. She then walked away, leaving her lost in thought cousin.
"Whatever it is, you can only see him, and to you, he is the best man you will ever meet. Have you understood, my dear sister? Hmm?" Evie had just turned to her side, but Chleo had already walked ahead of her. "Hey, Chleo! Wait for me!" cried Evie as she caught up with her cousin half-running. "How cruel. You're the one who asked but didn't want to listen to me."
"Your answer is hard to understand. Can't it be simplified?"
"Simplified how?"
The two of them had reached their special lockers to retrieve the equipment for the next class.
"Speak in English."
"I spoke in English!" protested Evie.
"That's not what I mean. For example, like…." Chleo was silent for a moment, thinking about something. "Ah, how can you be sure that you like Dietrich?"
"Dietrich?" Instantly Evie's black eyes shone when she heard the name of her lover. Evie closed her locker and leaned one face against it with an expression like a woman in love. "Every time he was with me, I would feel happy. Every time he came back to England, I would miss him. Every time I see him smile or laugh, I feel happy too. On the other hand, if he feels sad or is having problems, I feel anxious too. I will also think I want to be useful and be able to help him solve his problems."
Chleo gaped at the explanation. She had no idea that this one cousin of hers could also be romantic.
"You know... I don't like him anymore."
"You don't like him?" asked Chleo in surprise.
"Now I really, really love him. I guess I can't live without him anymore."
Chleo's mouth opened wide hearing that.
"Uhm... I think you're exaggerating."
"Hhhh... it's because you don't understand my feelings. Just imagine if someone took Alexis from you. Surely you won't be calm like this."
Really? Chleo tried to imagine if Alexis left her life. Hmm... so weird. She felt nothing. Maybe because she knew Alexis couldn't possibly leave her. Even if the young man were to go, Chleo was sure that Alexis would return to her.
Chleo wondered where did her confidence come from? Could it be that she was so used to being with that young man that she felt sure that Alexis would come back to her?
A few hours later, Chleo and Evie, who had no more classes, decided to go home together.
"Hey, Dietrich is going to Seattle this weekend. Come with me to pick him up," invited Evie as the two walked down the corridor towards the exit of the campus building.
"Sorry. But I don't want to eat your dog food."
Evie laughed at that, especially if Chleo put on a sullen face like this. Really adorable!
If only Chleo weren't her cousin, Evie would set Chleo up with one of her mother's nephews. Who doesn't want to have a sibling as cheerful and fun as Chleo?
But because Chleo was her cousin, Evie became very picky about condoning Chleo's relationship with any young man. Only Alexis was allowed to approach Chleo.
