American comics: From Hogwarts to God on Earth

Chapter 10: Finally, he obtained his own wand in the DC universe.

Compared to the Guardian Spell, the learning speed of the Fiery Spell was ridiculously fast. Even including the time spent learning the Fiery Spell Counter Spell, Rune only spent two days.

One and a half days were spent learning the Counter Spell, and half a day was spent learning the Fiery Spell.

"F**k!" Sirius couldn't help but curse. While the Fiendfyre spell was a powerful form of dark magic, it wasn't difficult to acquire, especially after the Ministry of Magic lifted the ban on such dark magic in order to combat the Voidman. This was one of the reasons Sirius agreed to teach Rune—rather than letting him secretly practice and get burned, it was better to learn safely under his guidance.

However, the difficulty of acquiring and learning runes is completely different. You can certainly forcefully use Fiendfyre with an evil heart, but afterwards, forget about turning Fiendfyre into various magical creatures to attack you; you'd be lucky not to be burned to death by it. But what about runes?

"How wondrous!" Rune exclaimed, then watched as the terrifying ball of flame transformed into a gigantic serpent. It roared with its mouth wide open, its fangs clearly visible, and tiny droplets of liquid flame even dripped from it, which quickly turned into small snakes upon landing, staring menacingly at Sirius.

"Are you really not the heir to the Chamber of Secrets?" Sirius asked Rune jokingly. In the past few days, Harry seemed to have found someone to rely on, coming to him as soon as school was over and telling him everything about the Philosopher's Stone and the Chamber of Secrets.

"I'm not a pureblood," Rune said, continuing to experience the feeling of manipulating the Fiendfyre spell. He flicked his arm, and the basilisk and the small snakes instantly merged into one, then transformed into several werewolves: "Have you noticed that part of the Fiendfyre spell's transformation method is somewhat similar to the concept of Transfiguration?"

Sirius Black, wand in hand, stared in terror at the fiery conjures: "Of course! They're connected to many advanced spells and transfiguration. Why do you think the Mysterious One would be afraid of our Headmaster?"

Rune nodded, then withdrew the Fiendfyre spell and put the wand back in his pocket. But he began to draw upon his magic again.

"You're... Damn it, stop doing this!" Sirius cried out anxiously, but Rune ignored him and continued to unleash the Fiendfyre spell. In Sirius's horrified gaze, the terrifying Fiendfyre coalesced into a giant dragon, flying towards Rune and his location.

"All curses have ended!"

Then, to Sirius's speechless dismay, the fiery dragon simply turned its head and dodged his spell. Wasn't this just blatantly playing a trick on him?

"Is it fun?"

Rune smiled and nodded. After a bit of a commotion, the two returned to the tapestry of the troll beating Barnabas—the only place Sirius could think of where he could safely and discreetly practice Fiendfyre even inside the academy.

"If you were born in our time, maybe we would have been good friends," Sirius said with a smile. He touched his head; it was a bit chilly, and his hair had only grown a little, so he habitually touched the back of his furry head to warm it up.

"Hmm." Rune nodded with a smile, also pleased, but the reason for his happiness was his progress in learning the Fiendfyre spell. With this terrifying spell, he now possessed the strength of a second-rate villain in the DC universe. At least, he should be able to break through Superman's defenses in his normal state, right?

Rune considered it carefully and thought it was indeed possible, but that was in an ideal situation. In reality, Superman would definitely knock him down with one punch, and he wouldn't even know how the other flew over. The revolution is not yet complete, comrades still need to work hard!

Back in his dorm, Rune continued studying ancient runes. There wasn't much to say about it; it was just monotonous, repetitive memorization. Fortunately, runes are similar to English; many adjectives and verbs are formed by adding or removing suffixes from nouns, making memorization much easier.

In the DC Universe, Rune also received a payment from Wayne, and the amount was significantly more. It has to be Bruce Wayne; aside from his suspicious nature, distrust of others, morbid obsession with Gotham, and suspected paranoia, Batman doesn't seem to have any flaws.

Looking at the five wands before him, Rune thought to himself. Two of the wands looked unremarkable, just slightly decorated wooden sticks; one was a long stone staff that gleamed with a cold light like obsidian; one was a warm, blood-red staff, the longest and most beautiful of the five, engraved with demons, dragons, and strange but exquisite decorations, making it look like a work of art; and the last one was a bone staff with some writing engraved on it, somewhat like Latin.

After trying them one by one, Rune found that the bone staff was the most suitable for him, followed by the blood staff, the two ordinary wands were of equal importance, and the stone staff was the least suitable.

In a dim light, the blood staff transformed into a red, translucent ring, the two wooden wands joined together to form a walking stick, and the stone wand became a pure black umbrella. Rune tucked the bone wand into his pocket, put on the ring, picked up the walking stick, donned the new clothes he had bought recently, and looked in the mirror.

The handsome man in the mirror smiled at Rune. Rune was also satisfied; the outfit looked very smart. The clothing store clerk certainly had a good eye. Actually, Hogwarts uniforms were quite nice, but robes weren't ideal for close combat, and it certainly wasn't because custom-made clothes cost extra.

This trip was also to visit Bruce's house. Wearing his old tattered clothes again would make Alfred feel disrespected, so he specially wore the clothes he had bought before and brought a domino engraved with runes that could provide a small amount of physical and magical damage reduction. This was a contraption he had recently made after some haphazard experimentation with a demon's spine. It was very crude, but this one domino crippled a third of the poor demon's spine. Fortunately, the effect was quite good.

Wayne Manor is a vast, Gothic-style mansion, possibly larger than some universities. Hogwarts' only advantage over it might be its starry dome.

Alfred was still quite young at this time. He had a thin face, a beard, and very sharp eyes. Perhaps because Bruce called him a friend, he treated Rune very gently.

"I didn't know the young master had a new friend." He accepted Rune's gift with a polite smile and opened the door to the hall for him.

"It was probably just a few days ago. Let's say I'm what you call a..." Rune carefully considered his words. "A warlock? This gift can mitigate some of the physical and magical attacks on the wearer, but I'm a beginner myself, so don't expect me to make any outstanding magical items."

"That's quite surprising." Alfred smiled, but there was no real surprise on his face. After all, he had worked for MI6 and might even have collaborated with real wizards. In the comics, Alfred also plays Batman and is quite capable. He usually acts as a support role, Batman's last line of defense.

After passing countless pairs of maids and servants, Rune arrived at the restaurant, where Bruce had been waiting for some time. He looked somewhat haggard, but still greeted Rune politely and warmly.

"Zatana isn't here?"

Bruce gave Rune a resentful look: "After hearing you say that demons were chasing her, she left..."

"Um, is this my fault?" Rune said helplessly, "Master, she really isn't your soulmate."
