Chapter 9 What does it mean that brown sugar ginger tea is also a magic potion?
Surprisingly, even after several close encounters with Bruce, the Court of Owls did not cause any trouble, which saved Rune a lot of trouble.
After visiting several supermarkets without finding ginger or brown sugar, Rune had no choice but to seek help from the all-powerful house-elves at Hogwarts... or rather, the school-trained elves? The reason, of course, was to use them as ingredients!
Not long after, Rune received packages from the fairies.
"Thank you, Sparkle." Rune happily thanked the fairy, but the female fairy named Sparkle had a serious expression on her face.
"No, it's what we should do. If it weren't for your reminder, we wouldn't have realized our shortcomings!" She looked at Rune with a guilty expression, her lips pursed. "We just learned about the cuisine of a faraway Eastern country. Although it's complex, Shining will do her best to learn!"
When she left, her mind was filled with images of huge iron pots and raging flames. The way they cooked there perfectly matched the common sense of the elves: cooking should be a war where mistakes were not an option.
So the Hufflepuffs discovered that the elves, who usually smiled and bowed, were suddenly shouting, "Fight! Fight! Fight for my master, the students, professors and headmaster of Hogwarts!" as they battled the giant iron pot, and all sorts of novel dishes were being cooked.
However, Rune had no time to worry about that. He picked up the crucible and began to precisely cut the brown sugar and ginger, preparing for the potion-making process.
What is the essence of potions? Professor Snape personally taught him, and setting aside the sarcasm, this potion genius pointed out the reasons for choosing raw materials and the purpose of each step in brewing potions.
The selection of raw materials for potions mainly considers two factors: practical effect and symbolic effect. Practical effect refers to the effect that occurs when certain materials are consumed directly. For example, dragon blood can make the drinker stronger and more agile when consumed directly. Therefore, its most basic use is to make health-enhancing potions.
Symbolism refers to what the public widely believes a material can do. In Muggle fairy tales, abstract materials used in potion-making, such as a witch's heel or a toad's fifth leg, serve a symbolic purpose. The latter is indeed a material used in some potions, symbolizing the impossible or non-existent, and is used to eliminate certain unnecessary effects.
So here's the question: are some of the traditional remedies from a certain great Eastern country also lost magic potions?
With this in mind, Rune gave it a try and made a bowl of brown sugar ginger tea with weak magic but definitely a magical potion. Its purpose was to prevent colds and improve blood circulation. It might have special effects on women, but Rune wasn't a girl and couldn't feel any other effects.
After adjusting the proportions over the past few days, Rune gradually found the optimal ratio of brown sugar, ginger, and water. He peeled the ginger, chopped it into small pieces, and then precisely weighed the brown sugar and ginger.
Rune took out the weighed brown sugar and placed it on a crucible to heat it. The brown sugar gradually melted, and he stirred it while carefully watching its changes—this was the most difficult part of the entire refining process. Just before it changed color, Rune needed to add hot water. Heating and stirring were to maximize the medicinal properties of the brown sugar itself, while preventing it from changing color was to prevent it from turning into caramel, as caramel and brown sugar have completely different properties.
Soon, the dissolved brown sugar was about to change color, so Rune immediately added hot water and stirred until the brown sugar was completely dissolved before adding the ginger pieces.
After waiting for about five minutes, Rune removed the flames. After cooling naturally, the ginger grains had completely dissolved into the potion, leaving only a deep red liquid with specks of silver light.
finished!
Rune happily bottled it, then thought to himself: People say the Classic of Mountains and Seas is a cookbook, but maybe it's a prescription?
In the castle's dungeon.
Snape looked at the potion before him and nodded: "Although the technique is clumsy and the timing is poor, it is indeed a potion, and..."
He frowned. "What kind of private recipe is this? Or did you alter some of the ingredients in a potion?"
Improving potions is not complicated. As long as you understand the principles of potion making, potion makers can easily improve certain potions. For example, Snape would improve the effects of potions at the expense of their taste. Most of the potions in Hogwarts Hospital were made by Snape. Therefore, some Gryffindors firmly believed that Snape poisoned potions, and the poison was made to taste as bad as possible.
"It's a new potion system, Professor," Rune said. "I call it Brown Sugar Ginger Tea."
"What are the effects?"
"It mainly helps prevent colds, is good for the stomach, and has a certain detoxifying effect..." Rune thought for a moment, then added, "It might also be beneficial to the health of girls during their menstrual period and increase the chances of getting pregnant?"
Snape stood up and stared intently at Rune.
"What's wrong..." Rune was startled.
"I'll send it to a professional testing facility for you, Rune," Snape said meaningfully. "With just this one potion, you can make those purebloods kneel before you and lick your toes."
Rune chuckled. "That's pretty disgusting."
Snape snorted and gestured for Rune to leave, then grabbed the potion from his hand and hurriedly left the office.
If this can make those purebloods abandon their principles, then what can I do with the potions I brew from certain long, thin objects? Rune rolled his eyes, turned around and went to Dumbledore's office. His Patronus Charm was almost complete; the white mist had gathered and taken on a vague outline, looking like a feline.
It is said that the guardian spirits of wizards are basically in the form of their Animagus, which makes Rune quite curious, since he will definitely have to study Animagus in the future.
……
"Focus your thoughts, recall the happiest memory you can think of, draw circles with your wand to power the spell..."
"Protect the Gods!" Rune shouted, but the wisp of silver steam only symbolically contracted, and the effect of this practice was even worse than the previous ones.
Dumbledore noticed Rune's anxiety and said softly, "Don't be nervous, child."
He reached into his pocket, felt around, and pulled out a packet of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. Dumbledore frowned, seemingly not liking the candy. "Here, have a taste. Honeydukes' new flavor."
Rune took the three candies, picked out a green one, put it in his mouth, chewed it, and then showed a pained expression: "It smells bad."
Dumbledore chuckled, picked up a black candy, and put it in his mouth. This time, he tasted a sweet candy with a fruity aroma, but he curled his lips into a reluctant smile as he continued chewing: "We haven't had much luck, have we?"
The two looked at each other and laughed.
