Chapter 101 Yes, children, Optimus Prime the White Lion has arrived.
Rune prepared gifts for each professor, but he only truly put his heart into preparing three, which he would give to Professor Snape, Professor McGonagall, and Professor Flitwick.
The gift he gave Professor Snape was a translation of the Compendium of Materia Medica, which Rune himself translated from a vernacular version. Without the aid of a quill pen, the translation would likely have taken many times longer; even so, Rune only completed the section on medicinal herbs.
It's important to know that the Compendium of Materia Medica itself contains over 190 million words and records 1892 kinds of medicines, and that's in classical Chinese. Rune chose to translate the section on medicinal herbs because he believed there was a significant difference between potion-making and Muggle prescriptions. Prescriptions might be useful as a reference, but for a potion master like Snape, understanding the principles and then deriving them himself was more important.
"This is a book compiled by a renowned expert over nearly thirty years." Rune handed over the thick books. "However, I have only translated the part introducing the medicinal materials; the prescriptions at the end have not yet been translated."
Professor Snape was very pleased with this, although he didn't show it on his face. Rune could sense that he was very happy—just look at his slightly raised eyebrows and the slight upturn of his lips, which was quite audacious for Snape.
"That's enough." He nodded and eagerly opened the book. Fortunately, he had taught himself some Chinese and understood some of the concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Yes, some more avant-garde potions masters have begun to try learning Chinese, but the high level of difficulty still makes many people hesitate. There are 2500 commonly used characters and 1000 less commonly used characters alone. Add to that the challenges of word formation, homophones, and idioms, and these potions masters are making very slow progress in their research on Eastern-style potions.
Seeing Snape engrossed in his book, Rune slowly left the gloomy office.
Rune's gift to Professor McGonagall was a lion puppet. Its entire body was covered in a hard metal shell, the surface gleaming with a cold, silvery-white sheen, while the mane was made of brass, giving it an overall futuristic look. The inherent beauty of this mechanical creation had a huge impact on the traditional aesthetics of wizards; even Professor McGonagall's eyes widened when she saw the lion.
Compared to other created puppets, the biggest difference of this puppet given as a gift is that it can transform.
If any Transformers fans saw its transformation process, they would definitely think that Rune copied the transformation structure of White Lion Optimus Prime.
Rune certainly had his own motives. His best subject was Transfiguration, so his favorite professor was naturally McGonagall, and he was willing to put in extra effort for it.
"A very—very thoughtful gift, a very beautiful transformation." Professor McGonagall looked at the creation before her.
Then he gently sat down on the majestic lion. To prevent any discomfort, Rune had specially removed a layer of metal from the lion's back and replaced it with a layer of sponge.
"This lion is able to remain active under the influence of the magnetic field generator," Rune added. The will he instilled in the lion is a combination of courage, enthusiasm, generosity, and justice, which is very much in line with the Gryffindor character.
He had originally intended to give him a Firebolt, but its performance wasn't something everyone could easily handle. Harry was exceptionally gifted in this area and could use it effortlessly, but that didn't mean others could. Keep in mind, this flying broomstick is one of the fastest, demanding extremely high levels of dynamic vision and reaction speed from the operator, and McGonagall...
In short, no matter how much Professor McGonagall liked Quidditch, Rune would never send her a fire bolt; he didn't want to be accused of murdering his teacher by tabloids like the ones that sing dissent.
"Yes, that's thoughtful of you." Professor McGonagall looked at Rune with satisfaction, then said softly, "But don't forget your goal, child. I've seen too many people forget their original intentions and go down the wrong path. You're carrying more than just yourself on your shoulders now; the relationship between Muggles and wizards largely depends on you."
Rune nodded.
Logically speaking, even if the relationship between wizards and Muggles is terrible, they should at least be at a standstill, wary of each other, and occasionally trade items that are useful to each other. After all, wizards have Imperius and Polyjuice Potion. Putting aside the difficult task of casting Imperius on key figures who hold the authority to launch nuclear missiles, it would be quite easy for them to frequently create friction between the two countries.
So even though Muggles possess nuclear weapons, wizards aren't entirely at a disadvantage against them. After all, Muggle technology can't yet grasp the mystical and esoteric nature of the soul.
The problem is that wizards are completely unaware of their own abilities. Lower-ranking wizards believe the Law of Secrets protects Muggles, while higher-ranking wizards believe it protects wizards. In reality, the Law of Secrets protects neither Muggles nor wizards; it is merely a policy that forcibly separates wizards from ordinary people.
After chatting briefly with Professor McGonagall, Rune went to deliver gifts to the other professors, such as a cookbook for Dean Sprout of the Hufflepuff and a model of the solar system for Professor Sinesta, the astronomy professor. Finally, Rune went to Professor Flitwick's office and took out the gift he had prepared.
To be honest, although Rune had consulted Professor Flitwick on spells many times, he wasn't particularly clear about the short professor's preferences, only knowing that the professor liked to study spells. So, after obtaining the giver's permission, he compiled a list of spells he had acquired from other wizards.
Although Hogwarts has cultivated a large number of wizards who are willing to share their knowledge, and the academic atmosphere of the British magical community is relatively good, the wizards who experienced the Voldemort era still have some fear in their hearts, and many wizards still have some killer weapons on their hands.
"The first part contains spells that you can freely learn and teach to your students," Rune said, pointing to the first dozen or so pages before continuing, "This part—the wizards only allow you to learn it, but they don't want you to teach these spells. Of course, you can teach them if you really want to, but you'll have to wait at least five years."
Professor Flitwick nodded happily, a slight smile spreading across his face, before eagerly taking the book from Rune's hands—a book that contained the hard work of countless wizards.
After being snatched from its creator, the book's pages began to flip wildly, as if struggling to escape. The text also retreated to the innermost part of the pages, forming a dense, dark line. Clearly, the book had absorbed too much magic from the air, transforming itself into a magical object.
