Chapter 31 The Final Battle Begins
Unfortunately, in the end, only seventeen alien golems and three Doomsday golems remained who could successfully change size at will. However, including Rune himself and the Blade Warriors' group, that should be about right.
After yawning, Rune returned to the shelter and ate the leftovers. Even with his powerful magic, he felt dizzy and lightheaded after repeatedly creating multiple puppets—a sign that his magic was nearing depletion. However, Rune knew he might experience the same thing when facing other enemies, so instead of following his instincts to sleep, he chose to fuse his bloodline with water and the Wolverine blood he had collected earlier.
After one failure, a bottle of semi-solid liquid emitting a bright golden light appeared in a stemmed glass, containing what appeared to be specks of silver light, but upon closer inspection, these specks disappeared. It seems that the dissolution of blood from different people produces subtle differences.
Rune downed the drink in one gulp. Perhaps because Logan was always a heavy drinker, he felt the solvent tasted somewhat like alcohol—spicy, sour, and with a rusty aftertaste. This time, Rune's clothes weren't affected; he only felt a slight warmth in his body, and the fusion process was over.
**Bloodline Fusion - Wolverine:** Slightly increases strength, greatly increases regenerative abilities, and grants you beast-like perception, allowing you to sense all dangers in your surroundings.
Rune clicked his tongue. "Hmm, now I don't have to worry about someone flying in and stabbing me in the guts." He thought, "Supergirl was once invaded by Atom Girl, eventually losing her mobility and being captured. The Monkey King in Journey to the West also did the same to his sister-in-law. I wonder if the Monkey King in DC Comics ever did that to Darkseid."
Yes, there is also a Sun Wukong in DC, but he didn't wreak havoc in the Heavenly Palace, but on Apokolips, and was then sent to the Phantom Zone by Darkseid, the "Buddha".
By the time everyone woke up, it was already afternoon. Rune handed most of the alien puppets over to Erica. Erica had been a Hand assassin and had served as the leader of the assassins, so she knew how to command the aliens, who were also agile assassins. If Rune had been in charge, he probably would have just let them charge in and do whatever they wanted.
After explaining to Erica what these "little chess pieces" were and how to use them, Rune also offered her half of the reward for any puppets left over after the battle, as a way of motivating her.
Erica picked up a chess piece herself, tried zooming in and out, and then became quite fond of these little gadgets. Stroking the alien's smooth head, she said happily, "I didn't expect you to be so good at charming girls even before you're an adult. When you grow up, I'll introduce you to a few girlfriends? They might be a bit older, but they're very caring."
"111, sister, look at me! I really need this kind of pampering..." Erica rolled her eyes and kicked away Deadpool, who was clinging to her leg. Deadpool rolled over to Rune and looked at him with pitiful eyes: "Could you give me a Wonder Woman puppet? Preferably anime-style, the three-dimensional actress is like a bar of soap, I don't really like that."
"No way," Rune refused decisively.
Soon, everyone was ready. Deadpool, as usual, got into the Hydra sports car, but this time Rune and Wolverine had to sit with him. The rest of the group was in another car. X-23 wanted to sit with Wolverine, but Blade stopped him: "Don't follow Deadpool, kid," the black man said sternly, "You'll learn bad habits."
Deadpool responded with a middle finger, then put his arm around Rune, looking like they were best buddies. If Rune hadn't been covering his face, the scene might have been even more convincing.
X-23 sighed and then put on a pair of pink sunglasses. It was another Logan who had bought them for her, but she actually missed the person who had bought them more than the sunglasses themselves.
As they drove away, Fireman was still fast asleep in the shelter.
...At this moment, in a small outpost built by the giant Ant-Man's arms.
"Do you think the Fire Man is dead?" the Death Woman asked the Russian standing nearby. The Russian shrugged, indicating he didn't know either.
"Hmph, so be it." A man in a trench coat toyed with a pencil; a bullseye pattern was printed on his forehead. "If it weren't for that good-for-nothing, why would we need to stand guard here?"
"If they actually had any brains, they'd probably be like those so-called superheroes before, cowering in some corner like rats," the burly man in the helmet said seriously. "But we still need to be vigilant. What if they actually muster the courage to attack us, and we don't notice..."
Everyone trembled involuntarily. The bald woman and her brother were complete opposites; for every gentle and refined Professor X, this woman was utterly vicious.
Just then, the man with the bullseye pattern on his head squinted at the distance and suddenly shouted, "RPG!"
The henchmen and villains immediately began running down the city wall. A few seconds later, a huge explosion rang out. Some unlucky henchmen were hit by flying metal parts and fell unconscious, but their companions were no better off.
Under the cover of explosions and the ensuing smoke, Erica led the aliens to infiltrate the stronghold and began assassinating the snipers hiding in high places and dark corners one by one.
Rune then flew up, carrying Deadpool and Wolverine in his left and right hands respectively.
"Are you ready?" Rune asked.
"Given that we're about to face an evil version of Professor X, no matter how many times you ask, I'm not ready!" Wolverine shouted, then took a deep breath and said to Rune, "Whatever, just throw it!"
Compared to Wolverine wearing Magneto's helmet, Deadpool is much more comfortable.
"Whoosh! Paratrooper One Deadpool, ready!"
The next moment, Rune threw them at Ant-Man's helmet. The immense force allowed Wolverine to easily break through Ant-Man's eye mask, while Deadpool wasn't so lucky.
"Pfft—"
"Damn it! Rune, I suspect you're taking revenge!" Deadpool slammed his head against the ground. Fortunately, Rune hadn't used much force, so he only broke two leg bones. After cursing, he limped into the Ant-Man helmet.
The other villains immediately tried to stop Deadpool, but Rune appeared before them in the next instant. His eyes emitted a blinding red light, and the surrounding air was distorted by the immense magical power.
"No entry here!"
