Chapter 43 When doing business, there are always people trying to sabotage it.
The deal was quickly agreed upon, mainly because Zatanna wanted to work for free, while Rune wanted to pay more. Clark finally slapped his forehead and said, "It's Rune's decision! Two to one, we win!"
Then Clark started yelling and wailing, silencing Zatanna. The three of them were then kicked out by the waiter, but thankfully the waiter packed up their food for them. Since Clark was indeed in the wrong, Rune didn't pursue the matter.
The three of them had clearly grown closer. They walked to the outskirts of town and found a secluded but more pleasant spot to continue eating hamburgers and sandwiches.
Clark looked at Rune and Zatanna, and asked curiously, "You two mentioned white magic before, is there also black magic?"
Zatanna nodded, swallowed the food in her mouth, and lay down on the ground: "Yes, but many times, even mages cannot decide whether they can use black magic or white magic."
She looked at the stars in the sky and whispered, "Being a mage isn't as wonderful as you imagine, Clark. The most numerous mages in the world have their power derived from their bloodline. If they are descendants of demons, then every spell these poor people cast is pushing themselves toward hell, but many of these mages are oblivious to this."
"Hell?" Clark asked doubtfully. "Does Hell really exist?"
Rune chuckled. "Yes, but Hell exists as a separate dimension, independent of the entire multiverse. Its ruler is called Satan, and right now, Satan is probably Lucifer, isn't he?"
"You always manage to drop some scary information without even realizing it, Rune." Zatanna memorized this information, then suddenly stood up and looked behind her warily.
A middle-aged man came out.
"Little wizard, you really know a lot."
Then the man chanted a spell, and flames burst forth from his body. His skin turned orange-red and grew fine scales. His eyes gleamed with an eerie light, his body rapidly expanded, demonic horns grew, and his facial features became grotesque.
The magic it used to transform was so astonishing that even Rune looked at the monster with a serious expression.
"Who are you?"
The demon didn't answer, but stretched and twisted his neck, his bones cracking and popping. Then he let out a long sigh of relief and said happily, "It's so good, I haven't been out for so many years."
Then he tilted his head and looked at Rune: "Why should I tell you my name?"
Clark stood up as well, shouting angrily, "Demon, get back to your hell!"
"This is none of your business, children. Go home and cry to your mother," the demon chuckled softly, his voice crackling like burning firewood. "I only want Zatanna. Don't make me spank you, okay?"
"Don't even think about it!" Clark shouted, then ran towards the demon and punched it, sending it flying several meters.
After being sent flying by Clark's punch, the demon, though somewhat disheveled, quickly recovered. He let out a low growl, and the flames around his body intensified, as if igniting the surrounding air. Then, a massive longsword appeared in the air, covered with strange, unknown characters. The demon gripped the sword with one hand and, with a single blow, sent Clark flying.
Seeing this, Rune immediately unleashed a magical shock on the demon. Crimson and pure magical energy shot from his eyes, heading straight for the demon's face. However, even with such a sudden attack, the demon still managed to react. He held his greatsword in front of him, blocking Rune's magical shock.
What the hell? How could you react to such a short distance and such a fast attack? Are you some kind of demon lord who has fought demons in the abyss for hundreds of years?
Rune was internally complaining, while Zatanna on the other side wasn't idle either. She was chanting a spell, trying to restrain the demon's movements. At this moment, Clark charged at the demon again, using all his strength. However, the demon had already anticipated the direction Clark had been knocked away and followed up with a punch. In Rune's eyes, this punch was accompanied by a crimson light, obviously using some kind of magic. Clark was directly hammered to the ground and fell unconscious.
Clearly, Clark's magic resistance is still somewhat low. Even as an adult, let alone a young Clark, taking that punch would probably be quite painful. Rune's only question is... why didn't Clark use a puppet?
"Didn't you say that the demon chasing you wasn't that troublesome?" Rune asked angrily. Clark's unconsciousness made him very angry, so he stopped the magic attack and began to fight the demon in close combat.
Zatanna, sweating profusely, replied, "I only tested him a little before running away. Who knew he was so strong?"
As she spoke, her spell failed again. The demon's power far exceeded her expectations. When he was chasing her before, he hadn't turned into a demon directly, which led Zatanna to misjudge the demon's strength.
The demon was also in a bad mood. His host was tired of playing hide-and-seek with Zatanna, so he transformed as soon as they met, making him think it was a happy time to let loose. But a human child beat him up and gave him a stomachache, and another little mage was ridiculously strong.
"Are mages this strong now?" the demon asked its host, who was speechless.
Using his beast-like senses, Rune was able to dodge the demon's attacks relatively easily. However, when attacking, Rune was still somewhat clumsy in using his physical body and magic. Moreover, Rune discovered that his strongest attack spell, Fiendfyre, had limited effect on the demon. But this was normal, as the demon had spent a long time with fire, so its fire resistance was naturally very high.
The demon was also incredibly frustrated. Fierce tigers and cheetahs, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, were biting his ankles like madmen. His longsword would sometimes suddenly fly outwards, forcing him to grip it tightly to avoid being disarmed. Even the grass on the ground would suddenly form rings, tripping him when he was focused on attacking. Not to mention, Zatanna was constantly trying to bind him; he had truly had enough.
Then the demon roared loudly, his magic power surging as if it were about to explode. Rune seized the opportunity to grab the unconscious Clark and also grabbed Zatanna on the way back. Then he flew more than 30 meters with the two of them. As soon as Rune turned his head, he saw flames generated from the demon's body and then exploded with a bang, which then spread rapidly.
The weeds and pitiful trees on the ground were devoured by the magical flames, and the puppets that had been temporarily conjured were reduced to ashes in less than half a second. At this moment, the demon's hideous face flickered in and out of the flames, as inviolable as a demon god.
"Round Two, Begin."
