Chapter 45 Even knights sometimes have wicked thoughts.
While Clark was awake and Rune went to check on him, Jason pulled Zatanna aside.
Seeing this, Rune said, "Jason, I know you used to be a knight, so can you be a little more gentlemanly?"
Jason ignored his words, led Zatanna to a corner, squatted slightly, looked directly at her, and whispered, "Do you know anything about that guy?"
Zatanna thought about it carefully, then shook her head: "All I know is that he's from Gotham..."
"Impossible, kid." Jason shook his head. "You know the unknown dark magic in Gotham. No little wizard can use white magic there without interference, not even the most talented one."
He then paced back and forth anxiously, like an ant on a hot pan, frowning as if deep in thought.
"At his age, he's far too powerful," Jason said anxiously as he paced back and forth. "He's definitely the reincarnation of some powerful mage—or perhaps just in disguise, but we know nothing about him..."
"But he's helping me..." Zatanna was a little puzzled. She wasn't worried about Rune's character, and even had the leisure to cast a spell to wash her face. "He seems to care about his brother a lot. I don't think he's a bad person."
But Jason's expression was quite grim. He strode over, patted Zatanna on the shoulders, and said solemnly, "You think he's not a bad person, but that might be what he made you think that way!"
A rare hint of pain and longing appeared in his eyes: "I... I was just like you back then, easily trusting someone, and this is how I ended up like this. When the demon within me resurfaces, I'll have to go to hell to suffer. Child, always remember, never easily trust a sorcerer!"
Zatanna nodded, but a hint of disapproval lingered on her face, which made Jason feel somewhat weary. He had long realized that verbal reminders were utterly ineffective; only personal experience and pain served as a true teacher. Zatanna's father had been just as stubborn back then.
But the problem is that things are very serious now. If Rune has any bad intentions, they will both die a terrible death.
Jason sighed and took out a handkerchief: "Wipe your face, kid."
With a hint of reminiscence in his eyes, he said, "Rune's fighting style reminds me of that guy named Black Adam. He was given the power of the six Egyptian gods. Although he was a mage, Black Adam was also skilled in close combat... However, Black Adam wasn't very good at casting spells; he could only throw lightning."
Zatanna took the handkerchief Jason offered, wiped the dust and blood from her face, and then looked at Jason hesitantly, saying uncertainly, "Rune... is he really that strong? I mean, when I met him in Gotham, he couldn't seem to fly, and he couldn't shoot those pure magic rays from his eyes, and he needed a wand to cast spells back then..."
She carefully searched her past impressions of Rune: "His strength has indeed increased much faster recently..."
"That's right." Jason nodded. "He must be the reincarnation of a powerful white wizard. Because white wizards usually don't take over children's bodies, let alone the body of a child from an area full of dark magic. But he seems very anxious, as if something is chasing him."
Why do you say that?
Jason chuckled. "Do you know what a magic surge is?"
Zatanna nodded and said, "My father once told me that this usually happens to unfortunate people who possess powerful bloodlines but whose bloodlines cannot transmit the way to use magic through dreams or other means... But Rune has already learned magic, so he shouldn't have this problem..."
“Your father is right,” Jason said, “but he overlooked a rarer situation.”
Jason stared intently at Zatanna, who could even see him blink. However, when Jason blinked, his eyes didn't close vertically, but horizontally.
"When the rate at which a person's magical power grows far exceeds their daily magical output, and this continues for a period of time, a magical surge will occur." Jason glanced at Rune, who was talking to Clark on the other side. Rune sensed his gaze and nodded at him.
"You mean...?"
Jason returned the greeting, then turned to Zatanna and continued, "Yes, he just fought with Itregan, but his magic has already fully recovered and is rapidly increasing. This strange phenomenon even makes me feel that he is some dimensional lord who is expanding his territory."
Zatanna looked at Rune on the other side with a complicated expression. He might not know his future yet, but magical upheavals often have very serious consequences. Some unsuspecting people might kill their parents and relatives as a result, or even distort their own existence, causing their original parents and relatives to ignore them, and even they themselves would find it difficult to survive.
However, given Rune's physical condition, he won't die, but what will happen then is completely unpredictable.
Jason looked Zatanna up and down. Zatanna was dressed in a sexy outfit, and her beautiful face was in no way inferior to the woman who had once captivated him.
"I do have a way to bring him into our camp while ensuring he's unlikely to betray us..."
As Jason said this, the Itrigan inside him was also chuckling.
Do you have someone you like?
Zatanna's face flushed instantly. Her eyes darted around, her fingers unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes, her lips pursed, and her voice was barely audible: "I...I don't think so, I mean I don't know..."
"Not Rune?"
"Of course not!" Zatanna retorted loudly, her face flushed. Jason couldn't help but cover his face and sigh upon hearing this.
"Is that Bruce Wayne?" Jason asked after a long pause, but that didn't stop him from feeling uncomfortable.
"You investigated me?"
Jason's eyes widened in anger: "You should know that a union between a mage and an ordinary person never ends well!"
Jason himself is a testament to this. He was just a knight who fell in love with the dark wizard Morgan le Fay, and nearly died because of her. Many other cases of wizards marrying ordinary people also prove this point. The truth is: ordinary people can both crave superpowers and harbor malice towards a specific individual possessing such power; similarly, wizards, when possessing overwhelming superpowers beyond their spouses, can also harbor malice. The outcomes of such unions are generally not good.
Zatanna's face flushed even redder, but it was from anger. She clearly saw Jason as someone who was trying to break up a couple and even wanted to force her into marriage with someone else in exchange for his support.
"Sigh, never mind, never mind," Jason sighed.
