Chapter 56 Rune's Reward
The Satan produced an exquisite brass knuckle duster, dazzling and beautifully crafted, both ornate and unique. The overall design employed extensive openwork techniques, even depicting the scene of Lucifer's confrontation with God during his fall. Furthermore, the knuckle duster was remarkably thick, with detachable spikes on the arched structures corresponding to each finger.
The system finally appeared and provided an introduction:
[Detachable brass knuckles: virtually indestructible, with replaceable spikes, currently equipped with four demon teeth, attacks inflict fire and poison damage.]
So this was a weapon that could be modified, quite suitable for him. Rune nodded his thanks and accepted the knuckle duster. He tentatively put it on, and the gap to accommodate his fingers quickly adjusted to fit his size, which pleased him greatly. However, he still felt some contempt for this Satan. Giving it away without a second thought was excessive; not even bothering to hand over the actual treasure was too much. The three nails and the robe from before were probably no less valuable than this knuckle duster, but the system hadn't provided any information about them.
Lucifer then invited Rune to stay for a meal and to watch a large group of succubi dance. Rune understood Satan's intentions, but he pretended not to know and returned to the real world in a daze.
"You're finally back!" Clark mumbled, eating his hamburger. Rune glanced at Clark, who was hovering in the air in an extremely languid manner.
"How long have I been gone?" Rune asked.
"About three or four hours," Clark said, taking another bite of his burger and tossing the other one to Rune. Meanwhile, Itrigan had transformed back into Jason, who was now asleep on the floor, exhausted. Zatanna, on the other hand, was still touching her clothes. But Rune didn't see Constantine.
Rune casually leaned against a tree and started eating his hamburger: "Where's that guy named Constantine?"
"It's gone." Clark shrugged.
Disappeared? Could it be that he was afraid the people present would feel the spoils were unfair, so he just ran away? Constantine should be the biggest winner this time. However, the Spear of Longinus is an artifact exclusive to the Demonology Warlock class. Rune and Zatanna wouldn't use it even if they had it, and Itridan wouldn't risk defying Lucifer to steal the Spear of Longinus. So Constantine was simply judging others by his own petty standards.
As Rune ate his hamburger, he took out the Ultimate Eraser, which he had already fully charged. If Satan hadn't appeared, he would have let the Fallen One experience the power of this otherworldly artifact. Afterwards, Satan invited him to Hell, and although he felt that the other party probably wouldn't harm him, Rune didn't dare to release the Ultimate Eraser's power. Now, Rune finally found an opportunity to let the Ultimate Eraser slowly release its magic.
"Clark, come here for a second." Rune beckoned Clark over and then used magic to carefully examine Clark's body. Although the other party was God, and if he really wanted to do something, it would be difficult for Rune to find anything unusual, but he did it anyway to put his mind at ease.
With a puzzled look on Clark's face, Rune dissipated his magic.
"Hmm, not bad. The one above probably just accelerated your ability growth."
"Huh? I thought it was God who gave me the ability to fly!" The young Kryptonian said with a regretful look. "I was wondering when I would grow wings..."
If Constantine were here, he would definitely choose to mock Clark. According to him, Heaven is lifeless and incredibly boring.
Rune quickly finished his hamburger and looked up at the sky. After this incident, he was even more doubtful about the warning Deadpool had given him. The trait that Clark and Zatanna both possessed—was it kindness? That couldn't be right. There were plenty of kind people out there, plenty of pushovers who wouldn't need to go to such lengths as the Fallen Ones, even abandoning their future plans to cleanse humanity.
Besides that… Rune continued to ponder, could it be the protagonist's halo? Superman and Zatanna have both been protagonists, and they're quite popular, but how do you strip away this abstract concept? It felt a bit far-fetched.
In the end, Rune still didn't get a reliable answer; only ambiguous possibilities lingered in his mind, giving him a headache.
Well, there's always a way out. Let's cherish the present.
Thinking this, Rune approached Clark: "Want to have a race to see who can fly faster?"
Clark readily agreed and excitedly challenged Rune to another round. After Rune discovered the young Superman's fastest flight speed, he stopped pushing for victory, so the competition eventually became just a fun flight game between Rune and Clark. Zatanna clapped below; she could also fly using magic, but long flights were tiring for her, and she preferred to use portals to reach areas inaccessible by her physical body.
Jason woke up quickly as well. The demon within him couldn't resist its own excitement, making it difficult for Jason to fall asleep. After spending so much time together, he and the demon within him had become friends, though both were proud enough never to admit it.
He looked up at the sky following the laughter and saw Rune and Clark flying in the air. So he walked to the open ground, waved his arms, and shouted, "Come down, I'll take you to the amusement park!"
Upon hearing this, Clark excitedly flew down, but crashed into the ground due to his lack of flying skills. Fortunately, Jason reacted quickly and caught Clark.
Rune had also sped up to catch Clark, but Clark was still too far away, and Jason had caught Clark, so he relaxed and slowly landed on the ground.
"Clark, don't panic," Rune said, helping Clark up. "Think about what you would do if you crashed into a group of ordinary people instead of the ground."
At this point, Clark's face flushed slightly. He nodded and silently told himself that he must be more careful in the future.
Jason brushed the dirt off Clark, a smile playing on his lips. He said casually, "Let's go to London. You treated me to hamburgers last time, this time I'll treat you to authentic French food."
Clark tilted his head in confusion: "Why eat authentic French food in London? Shouldn't the most authentic food there be English?"
Zatanna slapped her forehead in exasperation and said, "That's precisely why we can't eat it!"
"I'm not going to invite you to eat shit." Jason sighed, drew a circle with his right hand, and a portal appeared. It seems this knight hasn't wasted his time all these years; he's even taught himself magic.
Clark was even more puzzled, but Rune smiled and said, "It's alright, when we get there this time, I can treat you to their Stargazing Pie."
"It sounds delicious!" Clark walked into the portal with a look of anticipation on his face.
