Chapter 63 A vicious snake will be punished by another vicious snake.
Everyone was stunned when Rune led the Slytherin students who had spoken ill of their teachers and classmates to apologize in person. They had never imagined the matter would be resolved in this way.
With Professor Snape's protection and their families' immense power, Slytherins have always acted extremely arrogantly. The heads of the other houses, concerned with saving face, are hesitant to defend their students as resolutely as Snape did, so they generally turn a blind eye. Even if they offend students from other houses, they'll usually reconcile within a month or so; after all, Hogwarts is ultimately comprised of four houses, and blood is thicker than water.
Moreover, there are certainly good students in Slytherin, but they were sorted into Slytherin by the Sorting Hat because of their parents' demands. Although these children are few in number, they know how to stick together and get along well with the other houses. With this small but real group of lubricants, no major conflicts will arise, and Rune naturally won't let these students embarrass themselves.
The rest of the students were brought directly to the professor to apologize, bowing at a ninety-degree angle—more formal than the respect one would show to one's parents. The oblivious Professor Hagrid was completely unaware he'd been insulted. Whether he could even discern the animosity between Slytherins and the other houses was another matter entirely; faced with so many students apologizing, he was naturally at a loss.
Professor Flitwick's gaze was complex. This professor, who possessed some elven blood, also liked Rune. Rune was always able to draw inferences from one instance to another, and sometimes his insights could even inspire Flitwick. However, Rune, with his Eastern mindset, still couldn't fully understand the Western mentality.
While it's a good thing that the students came to apologize, the reason Professor Flitwick was slandered was because of his goblin blood. This bloodline gave him a short stature, but it didn't hinder his achievements in the magical field. Although he only had a small portion of goblin blood, this bloodline has always been a source of prejudice in the magical world. Historically, goblins have been considered second-class citizens in wizarding society, even deprived of the right to use wands.
Professor Flitwick, by nature sensitive, highly values his personal dignity. He felt insulted by Rune's forced apology of the Slytherins who had insulted him because of his goblin blood. He viewed this preferential treatment based on bloodline as a form of discrimination, implying that Professor Flitwick himself needed special care.
Fortunately, Flitwick eventually learned that Rune also wanted these students to apologize to the other professors, and the young professor's face lit up with a happy smile. Since they all had to apologize, there was no need for any special treatment.
Even Professor Snape wasn't immune to being apologized to by his students. Some might think that Snape, as the Head of Slytherin House, usually protected his students and sometimes even gave some them special tutoring, so he shouldn't be insulted by the Slytherins, right? Unfortunately, while Snape was indeed a formidable figure, his overly strict personality and his hair that looked like it hadn't been washed in years also drew criticism from many Slytherin students.
Moreover, someone had already gone to explain the situation to Professor Snape, but Snape had not come yet, and because of this, nearly a quarter of the students had been complaining in their hearts.
When Rune arrived with his students, Professor Snape's expression was quite grim. He knew why Rune had brought them, so he asked with a fierce look, "How many of these people have been talking about me behind my back?"
"About a third," Rune replied.
Snape, of course, had no reason to doubt Rune, so his face darkened. His already pale complexion became even more gloomy, the cold light in his eyes grew sharper, his lips were pressed into a straight line, and his whole being exuded a chilling sense of oppression.
"These are the students I teach, huh?" he said coldly.
The students immediately lowered their heads, visibly embarrassed. And the days ahead for these students were going to be quite difficult. The old grudge of being called Mudbloods combined with the new hatred of their malicious slander caused Professor Snape to instantly conjure up several methods in his mind that would both discipline these ungrateful students and avoid angering their pure-blood parents and the school board.
However, Snape didn't say anything more and let the students leave. But as the saying goes, a barking dog doesn't bite, and there's always another day.
After apologizing to the professor, Rune naturally apologized to the students. However, since each Slytherin student had insulted someone different, Rune chose to have them bow and apologize at the entrance of the common room of the other three houses.
When Rune forced the Slytherin students to bow their heads, many students from other houses were already watching outside, especially the Gryffindors. Later, as Rune led the group to apologize one by one, the news spread like wildfire, and the procession naturally grew longer and longer. However, Rune's prestige was quite high, so few dared to make a scene until Rune had the Slytherins bow and apologize to the Hufflepuff dormitory, at which point enthusiastic cheers erupted.
In contrast, the Slytherins' pent-up resentment exploded instantly. Apologizing to the professors before could at least give them a reason that "the professors are better than me, so apologizing isn't humiliating," but apologizing to other students stung the hearts of these self-important pure-bloods.
Amid cheers from the other houses, many Slytherin girls had tears in their eyes, but their tradition of valuing honor prevented them from shedding tears in front of this group. Others, however, had already begun cursing the runes in their hearts, or even the Sorting Hat.
Rune coldly observed the group of Slytherins. His purpose in coming here was simple: to make himself feel better. He couldn't tolerate the blindness and ignorance of these fools. They were just using their privileged upbringing to belittle the efforts of others, and their self-proclaimed pureblood status seemed to Rune as baseless as floating duckweed.
Pure-blood families can still have Squibs, and most pure-blood families are hostile to Squibs. Some extreme pure-blood families, such as the Black family, will remove Squib members from their family tree and regard them as a disgrace to the family; some families will lock Squibs in their homes and not allow them to go out; some families will even fake the death of Squibs to hide them from the public eye in order to maintain their "pure" image.
Sometimes, Rune felt that these wizards not only lived in the Middle Ages, but also held medieval beliefs, especially the Slytherins.
Rune only let them go after the Slytherins apologized to the Gryffindor dormitories on the seventh floor of the castle. Although some tried their best to endure it, some Slytherins still couldn't accept the fact that they had to apologize to their mortal enemy, and ran back to their dormitories crying, as if Rune were the sinner.
But Rune didn't care. If your parents could bow down to Voldemort, then you can certainly bow down and apologize to Gryffindor. Tears were useless before Rune.
