Chapter 62 My Roommate's Little Schemes

Whispers had already begun to circulate, because Rune appeared to be resisting the curse entirely with his physical body.

The Ironclad Charm has a unique characteristic—although it's invisible after being cast, the invisible barrier glows when blocking spells or projectiles. Therefore, it's quite obvious whether Rune used the Ironclad Charm or not.

So, how did Rune withstand the prefect's curse? Was it some kind of defensive artifact? Everyone was momentarily stunned.

However, Rune made a grasping motion from afar, a blinding light flashing, but the Ironclad Charm couldn't stop Rune's incantation at all. No, calling it an incantation is too formal. Rune was simply releasing his magic power. Wizards didn't even want to call this extremely crude method a spell—it was too energy-consuming. Other spells could make one part magic power ten parts effective, but this release of magic power could only make ten parts effective. Only young wizards would unconsciously release magic power when their magic surged.

To be defeated in this way means the gap between the two sides is too great. Seeing Rune easily crush the Iron Armor Spell and casually pick up the prefect, someone immediately spoke up, hoping that Rune could put aside past grievances and not really hurt the prefect.

Rune didn't even look, and with a casual wave of his right hand, the prefect suffered the same fate as another upperclassman girl.

He waved to Edward, who was standing on the other side, and the boy from his dorm immediately came over eagerly.

"Call all the Slytherins here," Rune said softly, but his voice was loud enough for everyone present to hear.

Someone angrily questioned Rune about what he wanted to do, but the next second, he was thrown straight against the wall.

A scream rang out, but was instantly drowned out by Rune's magically amplified voice.

"What am I supposed to do?" Rune asked coldly. "I'm going to purge the entire Slytherin. Tell me, what did Voldemort do to make your parents kneel down and lick his shoes? What do I need to do now to make you kneel down and lick my boots?"

He grinned, revealing gleaming white teeth. His smile was cruel, as if it concealed endless malice, sending chills down one's spine.

"Tell me, okay?"

Rune then whispered a few words to Edward, who nodded vigorously and quickly went out. He returned shortly afterward with a large group of Slytherins, but not all of them were willing to come. Edward carefully wrote down the names of all of them in a notebook.

This surprised Rune somewhat. Aside from the time he joined the others in blocking him, trying to set rules for him, he hadn't paid much attention to his roommate. Now, however, he was unexpectedly being very dutiful.

"Well done, Edward." Rune's lips curled up slightly, and his eyes relaxed. This was probably one of the few good things in this terrible day.

Since arriving at Hogwarts, Rune had been completely absorbed in his studies. After all, it wasn't just a hobby; magic was also one of his future assets in DC. If he didn't study, he'd be crushed by some unknown evil sorcerer. Therefore, he showed absolutely no intention of integrating into Slytherin.

In fact, Edward's transformation is very much in line with Slytherin's personality.

While Slytherin students tend to look after each other and form a certain sense of group identity, they often lean towards self-interest when faced with choices involving vested interests. Furthermore, Slytherin students are typically highly ambitious and driven; they crave power and status and strive for them, and they are adept at assessing situations and adjusting their strategies flexibly according to circumstances.

Therefore, when Rune frequently displayed his power to Edward, especially when this power far surpassed his own and all the other students, Edward couldn't help but admire Rune and sincerely felt that he was the next generation leader after Grindelwald and Voldemort.

Moreover, Rune rarely interacts with students, and Edward, as Rune's roommate, naturally has the advantage. Is fawning over Rune now considered sycophancy? It's called accumulating political capital for oneself. Wait until Rune gains power…

Besides, Rune was practically betrayed by Edward that day, but when Rune returned, he didn't hold a grudge. Isn't that better than the mysterious man?

Edward's father, a former Death Eater, often recounted his painful experiences to his son. The mysterious figure was ruthless, cruel, and extremely arrogant, using his subordinates to the point of near extinction. And even after they were used, they might be killed for losing their effectiveness or for saying something that angered the mysterious figure. In contrast, Rune seemed much more merciful and benevolent.

Therefore, Edward desperately hoped that Rune could reveal his true strength to the entire academy, just as he was doing now, and then, like Voldemort had done, organize a club as a facade, before transforming it into an organization like the Order of the Phoenix or the Death Eaters in a few years. Even if he couldn't become the second-in-command, surely he could be the third or fourth?

Rune, of course, had no idea what Edward was thinking. The moment he received the names of the Future Ones, he began casting the Summoning Charm on them one by one in front of everyone. This spell, which was originally not very harmful, became a terrifying punishment in Rune's hands. The excessive magical energy poured into it made the targets arrive at an extremely fast speed, inevitably causing them to stumble and fall. One prefect even knocked out a front tooth.

Ignoring the clamor of those fools, Rune cast Legilimency on everyone present, even Edward. He didn't blatantly invade their privacy, merely observing the events of the past two days. Even so, it was still a task beyond the capabilities of an ordinary person, yet Rune accomplished it.

The authors of Harry Potter stated that the total number of students at Hogwarts was approximately 1000, with Slytherin averaging around 250. However, due to Slytherin's reputation, the actual number of Slytherin students was likely even smaller.

While Legilimency can read another's thoughts and memories, it's not as direct as reading a book. It requires the caster to analyze and interpret the target's thoughts. Legilimency is more successful when the target is relaxed, emotionally unstable, or in a vulnerable state. Fortunately, at this moment, everyone in Slytherin was intimidated by Rune alone, and no one dared to use Occlumency to resist Rune's mind-stealing technique.

Several Slytherin students, after being mind-read by Rune, had shifty eyes and hesitated to speak. Some moved their lips slightly but remained silent, their faces gradually turning red. Others whispered, begging Rune not to reveal what had happened.

Clearly, some of them had tasted the forbidden fruit at a very young age. Rune remained noncommittal, simply nodding and saying nothing more. Although these guys were essentially in a relationship at a young age, given the wizards' current low birth rate, they weren't really worried about any potential deaths. Even if a death did occur, whether the parents on both sides would be happy or angry was another matter entirely.
