Chapter 79 Martin Luther King Jr. wants you to pay him patent fees.
After receiving Rune's instructions, Misha stood up. On the surface, she rose slowly, her movements gentle and composed. Her face was calm as still water, her eyes clear and serene, without a trace of emotion. But in reality, she was inwardly exclaiming: "Such fragrant, soft little hands!" If anyone else had overheard her thoughts, they probably would have sent her to prison.
"You can just call me by my name," Rune said. "My name is Rune."
After speaking, Rune led the wizards and soldiers to the heart of the island. Fortunately, although a few wizards were somewhat dissatisfied with the soldiers, it was still within a controllable range.
When he arrived at the core area, Rita, who was pacing anxiously, immediately came to greet him: "You're finally back. I've completed your previous orders, but who are these soldiers behind you...?"
"The person who's going to 'report' me in a bit," Rune said.
Seeing his calm expression and lack of any intention to fight, Rita asked softly, "Are you declaring war on them?"
Rune nodded: "That's the idea."
"But our strength..."
Rune chuckled softly, a sound that sent a chill down Rita's spine. Behind him, Misha smiled and said, "I agree with Rune's idea. We will do whatever it takes to drag those damned Muggles to hell!"
She stood there, her face cold and stern, her eyes sharp as cold stars. The unwavering determination, the resolute resolve, and some terrifying emotion within her made Rita unable to look directly at her. She had previously felt sympathy for these captured wizards, but now she found them terrifying. Judging from Misha's current state, the Cruciatus Curse she unleashed would probably be more powerful than many real Death Eaters.
Even more terrifying, all the wizards seemed to shout in unison, "At all costs!"
"See that, Rita?" Rune looked at Misha with satisfaction; this girl suited him perfectly. "This wasn't my personal decision."
Rita nodded quickly, then lowered her head, displaying a docile demeanor.
Rune glanced back at the group of uneasy soldiers and said loudly, "Don't worry, we know who deserves to die."
The soldiers momentarily relaxed their grip on their guns.
"I know you didn't really have a choice. You've always faithfully carried out orders; it's your duty and honor as soldiers. But I want to ask you one question, just one question!" Rune glanced at the group of soldiers.
The soldiers below looked at each other, then at the wizards in front of them. The wizards were emaciated from the prolonged torture. The honest private, who had been reprimanded earlier, recalled the cries for help and screams he had heard during his night watch. Those desperate sounds had haunted his nightmares.
So the private walked to the front of all the soldiers, took off his helmet, stood in front of them, and said frankly, "Of course I sympathize, but sir, I must say, I am also very scared."
Rune nodded, then asked, "So why are you afraid?"
"I'm afraid of the wizards' revenge on us." The private looked at the boy who could decide their lives, but he wasn't afraid. He continued, "It's not that I'm afraid of dying myself. I know I'll definitely go to hell for being an accomplice in the persecution. I don't care if I die, but I have to say, sir, I'm afraid my family will also be found by the wizards. They did nothing, they know nothing, yet they're suddenly tortured or killed by something unknown. I can't imagine that scene."
Some of the soldiers below also began to whisper among themselves, and they naturally shared the same concerns.
Rune turned to the wizards and said, "See? They are human too, and they can have compassion for you, but they must carry out their superiors' orders. They gain nothing from persecuting wizards; on the contrary, they may be implicated."
From within the group of wizards, a male voice rang out: "What do you want to say?"
Rune then said loudly, "I want to say that if you really want to follow me, to become an organization like the Mughals or Death Eaters, I don't object, my friends. But the first thing an organization must do is to clearly see who our enemies are."
Rune pointed at the group of soldiers: "Look at them. They did guard you, but did they torture you?"
The wizards exchanged bewildered glances. The researchers and another group of security guards had done all the torture, and they themselves had long since been turned to mush by Rune. They shook their heads in unison.
"Then let me ask you," Rune said, looking at the soldiers, "did you volunteer to guard them, or were you transferred here by your superiors?"
The private in the lead, speaking English with a Texas accent, said loudly, "Of course, those officials sent us. If we had known that joining the army would mean doing this kind of work, we would have been better off farming back home!"
"See that?" Rune shouted at the wizards. "They're not like those who torment you. They have families, children, and friends. They're enjoying hotpot and singing songs in their hometowns when suddenly their superiors sent them here. Tell me, do they deserve to die, or do their superiors deserve to die?"
The group exchanged bewildered glances, and after a moment, Misha replied, "Of course, their boss deserves to die!"
Rune nodded and continued, "You are now filled with a remarkable new fighting spirit, but we cannot distrust all Muggles because of this. Their fate is intertwined with ours, their freedom with our freedom. We cannot act alone."
"When we act, we must ensure we move forward; we cannot retreat. Now, some people ask us, 'When will you be satisfied?'"
"We will never be satisfied as long as wizards continue to suffer unspeakable barbarity at the hands of Muggles."
"We will never be satisfied as long as wizards are still being sold at will by the Purifiers."
"We will never be satisfied as long as there are still children with potential who are being tricked into giving up proper magical education."
"No! We are not satisfied now, nor will we ever be, unless justice and fairness surge forth like the waves of a mighty ocean!"
"I have noticed that among those gathered today, some have suffered greatly, some have just emerged from their narrow cells, and some have been blinded by some Muggles with ulterior motives. You are long-term victims of man-made suffering. Persevere and firmly believe that enduring undeserved suffering is a form of atonement."
"Friends, today I want to tell you that even though we face many difficulties and setbacks in the present and future, I still have a dream."
"I dream that one day all wizards will be freed and our creed will be truly realized: we believe these truths are self-evident—that wizards and Muggles can be honest with each other."
"I dream that one day, in Honeydukes’ sweet shop in Hogsmeade, wizards and Muggle sons will sit together and share their brotherhood."
"I have a dream that one day even the United States, a country where purges are prevalent and laws are strict, will become a home for wizards and Muggles alike."
"I dream that one day wizards will live in a kingdom where they will be judged not by their bloodline but by the quality of their character!"
"With this belief, we will be able to work together, pray together, and fight together. We will not only liberate our fellow countrymen, but also bring Muggles and wizards to live in peace, and let the voice of hope rise from the towering peaks of Godric's Hollow! Let the voice of hope rise from every leaf of the Forbidden Forest! Let the voice of hope rise from the heart of Hogwarts Castle!"
After he finished speaking, the wizards cheered excitedly, and some of them were even moved to tears. Even Rita couldn't help but take out her notebook to write it down.
Just as the private on the other side was about to say it was plagiarism, his adjutant covered his mouth.
