Chapter 80 Rita's Change
By adapting Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech, Rune successfully defined the goals for the still-developing organization, clarifying who the organization's enemies were and who should be won over.
"After we leave, remember to talk to your superior about me," Rune said softly, patting his adjutant's shoulder gently. "Tell them I'll show them what it truly means to be unable to live or die."
Then, he used Apparition in the weaker core area of the magnetic field, teleporting all the wizards away. The Muggle soldiers marveled at the wonder of magic, unaware that the wizards were also astonished by Rune's power.
Fun fact: The danger of Apparition increases dramatically with the distance traveled. The greater the distance, the higher the skill and magical ability required. Therefore, intercontinental teleportation is practically suicidal for an average, highly skilled wizard. Even someone as powerful as Voldemort could not perform extremely long-distance teleportation.
In the original story, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione were captured and taken to Malfoy Manor, although Lucius Malfoy informed Voldemort, Voldemort was in Nurmengard in the Alps at the time. The distance between them was too great for Voldemort to return in time, which allowed Harry and his friends to escape successfully.
And what did Rune do?
He led about a hundred people and teleported them directly from an unknown island to Hogsmeade Village. This was practically pushing Merlin's limits—those Muggles were Americans, the island shouldn't be far from America, and how far is it from America to England?
The answer is 6837 kilometers. Although the wizards weren't so sure about the exact number, they could still sense the power of the "savior" they spoke of.
However, the young wizards weren't thinking about that right now. Based on their current knowledge, they didn't have a concrete understanding of runes' power. Most of the young wizards were simply vomiting.
Although Apparition allows wizards to move from one place to another in mere seconds, not every wizard can or enjoy using it. This is not only because Apparition can be extremely dangerous if misused, but also because it feels like being squeezed through a very narrow rubber tube. In fact, almost every wizard who uses Apparition for the first time vomits.
"Good heavens!" cried a wizard, "It's three brooms!"
The wizard's words reignited everyone's excitement. The pub's owner, Madam Rosmerta, was very popular, a skilled brewer, and exceptionally beautiful. She was at least forty, but still retained her charm, and was the dream girl of countless Hogwarts students. Ron himself had once harbored a crush on her.
However, Rune didn't bring them here because of this woman. He simply felt that these rescued wizards needed a place to vent their emotions, and what better place than a bar?
As for why he chose the Three Broomsticks instead of the Hog's Head... it wasn't that Rune hadn't been there; he frequently bought his supplies from the Hog's Head. However, the Hog's Head was a mixed bag, and the owner was an eccentric, tall, thin old man with gray hair and beard named Aberforth Dumbledore. Yes, this owner was Dumbledore's brother.
For the young wizards, the pub was far too filthy and the wizards inside too dangerous. For the adult wizards, the owner of the Hog's Head was simply too difficult to deal with. Rune was even afraid that these newly rescued wizards might get drunk and cause a ruckus, ending up fighting with another Dumbledore.
Rune drank some wine with the wizards, but he only had a soft drink himself. He didn't like drinking, and he especially disliked the idea of drinking causing trouble. Therefore, he used his age as an excuse to refuse the wizards' urging.
After hearing this, the wizards dared not say anything more. Lady Rosmerta smiled and nodded at Rune. Although they had vomited a lot at her doorstep, she would reluctantly forgive them since they cleaned it up afterwards and even went into her store to make a purchase.
The young wizards were also whispering amongst themselves. In their education, the wizarding world was extremely dangerous, full of dark wizards who didn't treat people like human beings and would randomly torture passersby according to their mood. But now, they were drinking beverages and eating typical British food—fish and chips—in a pub, which inevitably made them feel a little strange.
Meanwhile, Rita quietly organized the reports. This experience had completely changed this once flamboyant and fame-hungry woman. After experiencing despair, Rita felt the beauty of life, and she was incredibly grateful that she hadn't refused Rune's offer. After all, Rune hadn't even used a spell when he killed the old man who had kidnapped her.
The thought that Rune was her support made her feel much more at ease. Even if Voldemort were to be resurrected, she felt that the noseless guy couldn't compare to that handsome boy.
After much effort, Rita finally finished the press release—the entire process was completed without her signature exaggerated quill pen, and the style was unlike her usual press releases. This time, there was no exaggeration, no speculation, just the presentation of facts, yet it felt unusually weighty.
"I'm afraid your article won't get published in the Daily Prophet," Rune said, nodding beside her. Rita was startled and instinctively jumped off her chair, ready to take out her wand, but then realized something and breathed a sigh of relief.
Rita held the wand in reverse and gently handed it to Rune: "I understand. I will publish this article in The Quibbler."
By this time, the Daily Prophet had become the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Magic, and they would never publish this report.
Rune looked at Rita and realized that it wasn't just her appearance that had changed, but her heart as well.
After some time, seeing the wizards completely drunk, Rune instructed Misha to keep an eye on them and prevent them from causing trouble with the Three Brooms. He then gave Rita over fifty Galleons, asking her to take the group of young wizards to Honeydukes Candy Shop later, and gave her his contact information—essentially the same door key he had given her earlier. After that, Rune left.
He didn't return to Hogwarts, but instead went back to that nameless island. He flew through the air and saw the group of soldiers he had met earlier being surrounded by other soldiers.
"Do you have anything else to say?"
He could only see the hat of the leading officer.
A soldier stepped forward, slammed his helmet on the ground, and shouted, "I never imagined I'd die at the hands of those persecuted wizards, but at the hands of my own countrymen! Thank you so much!"
