Chapter 92 Mud Seed
Chapter 93 Mud Seed
*Snap!*
Rune slapped Umbridge again. This time, the slap landed on her other cheek, causing both of Umbridge's faces to swell up, making her look like a toad. But Rune wasn't actually angry. These wizards hadn't yet witnessed the true power of the future internet sage; the Clockwork Man was truly ruthless when he cursed. Against them, even three beatings of their mothers wouldn't be enough to kill them.
Therefore, the word "Mudblood" was unlikely to provoke any real anger from Rune. But that didn't mean none of the more than a thousand wizards present were angry. Hermione and her two friends were, for example.
Not long ago, Hermione had been called a "Mudblood," and Harry and Ron were humiliated by the Slytherins when they stood up for her. She couldn't take it anymore and immediately stood up from the table to yell back.
The Hufflepuffs reacted fiercely. They used a spell to precisely throw the failed concoction at Umbridge's face, causing everyone to burst into laughter. Rune also disgustedly let go, letting magic carry the squalid woman in his place.
The Aurors, well aware of the pink toad's notorious record, didn't even bother to cast a protective spell.
Before, after get off work at the Ministry of Magic, Umbridge would often launch into a tirade of cold-blooded opinions after a glass of sweet sherry, secretly plotting how ruthlessly non-magicals should be treated. Sometimes even anti-Muggle individuals would be shocked by her suggestions, let alone the Aurors.
Some Aurors were secretly pleased. They sometimes followed Umbridge under Fudge's orders, but the woman often picked fights with them, not only cutting their allowances but also physically punishing them. They never expected to be the ones getting humiliated this time.
Under the influence of runic magic, Umbridge was completely immobilized and could only scream. She had never seen anything like it before; the stench of rotten eggs was so pungent that it almost suffocated her instantly. Even worse, the stench entered her throat with her own breath, causing her to gag involuntarily.
"Enough!" Fudge's face flushed crimson, his already round cheeks now appearing even more swollen, as if they might explode at any moment. His eyes were wide open, almost bulging out of their sockets, flashing with fury. His voice became sharp and high-pitched, each word seemingly squeezed out between clenched teeth: "Grab him!"
Although Umbridge was indeed adept at flattery, he didn't issue the order to rescue Umbridge. Keep in mind that, in order to claim most of the credit for the operation himself, he didn't enlist the help of highly respected, experienced veterans like Moody or Barty. Besides, at the time, he thought, "How capable can a kid be?"
It now seems that Rune's strength has indeed exceeded Fudge's expectations, but so far it's still under control. No one can escape from so many Aurors unless they are Dumbledore.
At Fudge's command, the Aurors immediately surrounded Rune. They moved in unison, but not tightly around Rune, ensuring that there were large enough gaps between them.
Although wizards didn't understand what a magnetic field was, through long practice, they discovered that if two wizards were too close when casting spells together, it would affect the strength of their spells. After all, the magic they released was actually similar to a magnetic field.
Magnetic fields that are too close together will inevitably interfere with each other. This is one of the reasons why the wizards did not choose to gather a large group of wizards to cast a spell on Voldemort.
The next moment, it's unclear what the Auror leader gave the order, but the Aurors simultaneously cast a disarming spell. Professor Flitwick cast an armor spell on the rune, while Professor McGonagall cast a polymorph on the floor. Instantly, stone slabs as tall as a person rose up around the rune.
Professor Snape, however, simply watched from the sidelines. Having read the memories Rune had allowed him to see, he knew that the few Aurors before him were no match for Rune, and even if Fudge had gathered all the Aurors from the Ministry of Magic, they still wouldn't have been able to subdue him. But thinking of this, Snape couldn't help but compare Rune's strength to Voldemort's.
Having been a double agent, he naturally wouldn't mind being a triple agent. Snape wasn't without weaknesses,
He glanced at Harry instinctively. The only thing that could be considered pretty about that clumsy, ugly student was his eyes. Harry, meanwhile, was intently watching Rune; he might even have some affection for him. If he saw what Rune had done to those Muggles, he might just throw up.
During the first wave of attacks, Rune was safely protected by Professors Flitwick and McGonagall. Standing amidst a pile of rubble, Rune looked at the two professors with eyes full of gratitude.
"Thank you, professors, but I don't want my affairs to affect you either," Rune said softly, but his words easily reached the ears of the two professors.
Professor McGonagall's lips trembled with anger, her face a mixture of fury, regret, and confusion: "Until I know why you killed him, I—"
The elderly catwoman was so angry that she was panting heavily and could barely utter a complete sentence. She still couldn't understand Rune's act of killing, but she still held onto hope—she hoped that Rune was forced, or that someone had drunk Polyjuice Potion and was pretending to be the one who did it, and that Rune was merely forced to confess.
Unfortunately, Dumbledore wasn't at school at that moment; he had gone to Durmstrang and was probably discussing restarting the Triwizard Tournament with Karkaroff.
Professor Flitwick, standing nearby, was frantic. He tried to help Professor McGonagall up, but due to her height, he had to rely on magic. At that moment, the little professor urgently asked on McGonagall's behalf, "Did you kill anyone? Is there some reason for your distress? Tell me quickly—"
"Do you know that magic can extend lifespan?" Rune asked, seemingly ignoring Professor Flitwick's question. But everyone present heard him.
Professor Flitwick nodded. He certainly knew this, and in fact, the older wizards present all nodded in agreement. Fudge even asked angrily, "What does that have to do with you killing people? Did you kill other wizards to prolong your life?"
Fudge had a reason for asking this. Voldemort's rampage was also driven by a desire to prolong his life. The name Voldemort itself originates from the French "VoIDeMort," where the first word means "fly" or "steal," the second is equivalent to "of," and the third means "death." Therefore, the name Voldemort carries the connotation of escaping death. If that's not clear enough, the symbolism of his henchmen—the Death Eaters—is even more evident.
"No, quite the opposite," Rune said, coldly observing the pink toad. "Some wizards collude with Muggles, trafficking wizards to satisfy certain Muggles' desire for longevity—."
