Chapter 91 Stepping on a Pink Toad

Chapter 92 Stepping on a Pink Toad

This statement caused a huge uproar. Leaving aside Professors McGonagall and Flitwick, who were closest to Rune, the students in the audience immediately erupted in anger.

Fred and George stared wide-eyed, their mouths agape—they simply couldn't believe that Rune, the quiet but diligent student who was nothing like a Slytherin and who had even sponsored their dreams, could actually kill someone. How could this be? They had even played pranks on him before!

The Slytherins were terrified, for they had witnessed Rune's rage not long before. His expression was much the same as it was today, devoid of any superfluous emotion, and his tone remained largely unchanged, yet it still sent chills down their spines.

Malfoy swallowed hard. His father, Lucius, had once said that Rune's power had surpassed his own.

He was also frequently advised not to clash with Rune, and even to remain subservient. So when Rune asked them to apologize to the other academies that day, he didn't dare to object at all.

Then Malfoy seemed to devote himself entirely to the great undertaking of eating. He looked down at the food on his plate, trembling as he cut pieces of meat with his knife and fork and put them into his mouth, exclaiming: This food is truly delicious.

"Oh my God!" Hermione shrieked softly, looking at Harry. Harry, however, was completely bewildered. Even this savior with the lightning bolt scar on his head could hardly imagine Rune killing someone. It was Rune who cleared his godfather's name, it was Rune who helped Hagrid during his first class, it was Rune who stood up for his house. How could such a person be a cruel murderer?

Ron blinked, and his reaction was similar to that of the other Gryffindors, shouting things like "That's impossible!" until Professor McGonagall yelled "Shut up!" and they finally quieted down.

Upon hearing Rune's declaration, which was almost a confession, the Aurors immediately shielded Fudge behind them. They also tried to pull Umbridge back, but Umbridge refused.

This despicable, foolish, and cunning woman firmly believed that no one dared to touch her, not even a Merlin Medal recipient. Besides, what right did a third-year student at Hogwarts, and a Muggle at that, have to harm her?

Rune gave the pink clam a cold look, then said loudly, "I do have a question for you, Umbridge."

"You have no right to question a member of the Ministry of Magic!" Her shrill voice hurt Rune's ears, so he impatiently waved his hand, and the woman, whose position in the Ministry of Magic was second only to Fudge, was instantly thrown to the ground.

This woman didn't become Under-Minister of Magic based on her looks or ability; she was simply an opportunist. Like Fudge himself, he always believed that the revival of the British wizarding world in the years after Voldemort's death was his achievement, but everyone knew that this revival had almost nothing to do with him; he was simply the first Minister of Magic after Voldemort's death. Anyone else who had been Minister of Magic wouldn't have been any less capable than Fudge.

This pink clam considered herself unattractive and lacking in magical power, so she believed that she became the Deputy Minister of Magic entirely through her own efforts. But everyone knew that she only became the Deputy Minister by currying favor with Fudge.

Nevertheless, the Aurors remained wary. This third-year student's strength seemed somewhat abnormal. After all, who could, after just over two years of study, defeat an adult wizard without using any spells, purely through magic alone?

Could it be that some dark wizard swapped his soul with that of a minor wizard? Some Aurors wondered to themselves.

But they immediately dismissed that possibility. Even if the Book of Admission and the Pen of Admission were flawed, could Dumbledore really be wrong?

The next moment, under the watchful eyes of all the Aurors, Rune stepped on the short, stout woman. His action was not only an insult to Umbridge, but an insult to the entire Ministry of Magic. Enraged, some of the Aurors raised their wands, chanting spells and casting mesmerizing spells at Rune. Fortunately, they knew their limits and refrained from using the Unforgivable Curse.

However, Rune didn't even bother with these spells. He didn't even look at the Aurors, and casually dispersed the spells as easily as blocking a stream of water with his hand.

He simply looked down at the deputy minister below and asked softly, "I want to ask a question: Where were you when the Purifiers and Dark Wizards were trafficking adult wizards? Where were you when underage wizards, or even those who hadn't yet attended school, were being abducted?"

Where were you? Where were you when those non-pure-blood wizards were being tortured?

Although Rune's voice was soft, his questions were still heard by all the wizards thanks to the power of his magic.

"I heard you're a pureblood?" Rune asked, but the pink toad under his feet didn't utter a word as it struggled. Rune waited for a long time, even grinding the woman under his feet with his foot, before suddenly realizing something and slapping his forehead.

"Hey, look at my head," he said, feigning annoyance. "I really didn't expect that the Deputy Minister of Magic would be unable to break free from my magic. This Ministry of Magic is even more incompetent than I imagined."

Then he released his foot from Umbridge and relaxed the magical pressure on her. The next moment, a high-pitched voice came from his mouth.

"How dare you insult the Ministry of Magic!" At this crucial moment, Umbridge raised the banner of the Ministry of Magic. She glanced at Fudge, who was among the Aurors, his face also turning ashen, and then said even more brazenly, "You should be locked up in Azkaban for life!"

The next moment, under the watchful eyes of over a thousand wizards in the entire restaurant, Rune lifted the woman up and slapped her across the face. The slap was very loud, and the effect was immediate—one side of the woman's face instantly turned red and swelled up.

Umbridge was stunned for a moment before she screamed, "You lowly bastard, you ignorant mudblood, how dare you insult me, insult a high-ranking official of the Ministry of Magic?!"

Umbridge's childhood was far from perfect. Her father was a wizard, her mother a Muggle, and the couple had a Squib son. The Umbridges were not married of their own volition. Her father worked in the Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Maintenance and Repair, never receiving a promotion, while her mother was frivolous, withdrawn, and a Muggle.

Perhaps influenced by her father, Umbridge blamed her mother for the Squib that occurred in the family. When she was fifteen, Umbridge's mother and brother disappeared into the Muggle world. From then on, Umbridge never saw her mother and brother again, never spoke to them, and from then on, she pretended to be a pure-blood wizard in front of everyone she met.

Before she was even thirty, Umbridge had already become the head of the office, just one step away from a higher position in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Fearing that her relationship with her father would be discovered, she persuaded him to retire early.

From then on, whenever someone asked her if she was related to Umbridge, the former cleaning lady,

She would always flash a sweet smile and deny any connection between them. Moreover, anything bad would happen to anyone who asked this question, so the veteran employees were very secretive about it.

She was a despicable, love-starved, insecure woman who craved kinship with pure-blood families and enjoyed tormenting others. Therefore, when she suffered such an insult from Rune, her emotions erupted instantly, leading her to utter an undignified and racist question.
