Chapter 99 The Conception of a New World
"There are actually many differences between him and me." Rune stopped Misha from saying something, looking directly into Dumbledore's eyes. He showed no fear or guilt.
Rune was fully aware of what he was doing. He wasn't killing indiscriminately for so-called spellcasting materials; it was simply because he couldn't stand it. Perhaps it started as a rescue for Rita, who could continuously bring him new and exciting magic, but all the subsequent killings were voluntary on his own initiative.
He knew perfectly well he wasn't a hero, so he acted without restraint. The pure-blood family patriarch he hanged with his intestines was a prime example.
You think you're superior just because you're purebloods, and can arbitrarily deprive others of their right to choose life and death? Fine! Then I won't accept any form of surrender, nor will I accept anyone's persuasion. I'm going to torture you bunch of self-important bastards with the cruelest methods, and then kill you all. After all, you purebloods didn't accept the surrender of those non-pureblood wizards, so surely an eye for an eye is fair game?
Rune is a clock-maker, and his values differ greatly from those of the British. Upon learning of the torture inflicted on the wizards, Rune's first thought was to kill all the beasts. However, many wizards, even those who had been trafficked, hoped Rune would send the perpetrators to Azkaban, but Rune refused.
"Their sins should not be judged by us mortals," he said to one of the wizards present. The wizard thought Rune had heeded his advice, but Rune said the next moment, "So it is my responsibility to send them to the gods, to let the gods decide whether they go to hell or heaven."
Rita later captured this scene, and it made it into the newspaper.
Dumbledore looked at the little boy in front of him—no, he had actually grown up a lot and was becoming increasingly sharp and shrewd.
His brow radiated confidence and high spirits, just like Grindelwald, the man he had once loved. His eyes were filled with nostalgia as he continued, "Indeed, you and Grindelwald are very different."
He stood up, smiling, and handed Rune a Sherbet candy. "You neither ignore Muggles nor fear wizards. Most importantly, you understand Muggles better than we old folks do. Are you aware of our cooperative relationship with Muggles?"
He patted Rune on the shoulder: "It's just a normal relationship. What do you think of that kind of collaboration?"
Not all Muggles are completely unaware of wizards. For example, the British Prime Minister and the Queen are aware of their existence, and the British government has a well-established cooperative relationship with them. The Ministry of Magic provides protection for high-ranking officials and their families, and some Wizengamot wizards regularly inspect all high-ranking officials to ensure they are not controlled by wizards.
However, the cooperative model Dumbledore described was actually very unstable. First, this relationship was limited to the upper echelons of both sides. Leaving aside the possibility of a coup, Muggles and wizards inherently distrust each other, and their power levels were fundamentally unequal. Furthermore, the runes' recent massacres nearly destroyed this old cooperative model.
Rune didn't just kill the purgers and black wizards; he also murdered high-ranking officials involved in the human trafficking of wizards. In the United States, needless to say, a general committed suicide, several lieutenant generals were killed, and multiple secretaries in the White House were publicly dismembered. In the British royal family, two-thirds died, and the cabinet was almost entirely reorganized.
The worst off was in Japan, where only three people survived the magic institute, while the high-ranking members of the Magic Association were completely wiped out. Rune did this not entirely because of the issue of human trafficking of wizards, but also because some fools wanted to revive militarism. So he read the minds of the magic and political circles there from top to bottom and then wiped out all the idiots.
Meanwhile, the wizards were growing increasingly resentful of all Muggles because their fellow Muggles were being tormented by some of them, and some wizards were already suggesting that preparations for war should be made earlier than planned.
It's fair to say that almost all Muggles and wizards around the world are in a tense situation right now. A small spark could ignite a war, and the goal of that war would certainly be genocide.
Rune knew perfectly well why Dumbledore had brought this up. The old man’s subtext was quite clear: You destroyed the cooperative relationship we had worked so hard to establish with the Muggles. So tell me how you’re going to handle the relationship between Muggles and wizards from now on.
Rune smacked his lips, savoring the sweetness of the Olaf candy in his mouth, and calmly asked, "Do you remember what that ghost professor said about the origins of wizarding?"
Dumbledore nodded. The academic world had many theories about the origins of wizards, such as creationism and the hybridization of magical creatures, each with its own evidence, but none could truly be reconciled. Dumbledore, however, found it strange that Rune had brought this up.
“If wizards are just wizards and Muggles are just Muggles, then a war between them will break out sooner or later,” Rune said. “Because the offspring of a Muggle and a wizard are very likely to be Muggles, most wizards will choose to marry another wizard to ensure that their child is still a wizard.”
"In this way, a natural cognitive barrier will be established between wizards and Muggles, and they will never be able to understand each other properly. While wizards despise Muggles, Muggles will also fear wizards."
"But what if we turned everyone into a wizard?"
Dumbledore's eyes widened, and he frowned. This method was certainly excellent, but—
"How do you plan to ensure that everyone becomes a wizard?" Dumbledore asked, puzzled.
In 1990, the world's total population reached 53 billion, a truly terrifying astronomical figure. Dumbledore thought about it for a moment and realized that turning everyone into wizards was simply a pipe dream unless Muggles developed a potion that could turn ordinary people into wizards at a price affordable to everyone.
Rune smiled, looked at the beautiful phoenix, and said softly, "You don't need to worry about this. I already have a solution, and the success rate is increasing every second."
"The most important thing now is how to kill this beast," he said softly, looking at the old man. "I don't want a pureblood to live in the new world I've planned."
As he spoke, Rune glanced at Headmaster Black beside him. Black was also a typical pureblood, and he read the newspapers with Dumbledore, knowing Rune's strength. So, he could only smile wryly and say, "Uh, I admit I am a little bit, but my great-grandson is definitely not a pureblood!"
