Hogwarts Wasteland: The Witch from the Borderlands
Chapter 25 The Magic Knight's Sword
The incoming spells were no longer limited to knocking people unconscious.
Fire, ice, poison, curses—Lucius still maintained basic restraint, refraining from using any truly forbidden spells, but his offensive was already as fierce as a real wizard's.
Hermione's current situation is just like Draco's earlier, dodging back and forth within the circle, struggling to defend herself.
Unlike Draco, Hermione, though looking disheveled, focused more on fighting back.
Each time she rolled or spun, she would use her spell to grab whatever was around her and throw it at Lucius. Although it was not very effective, it still annoyed him a lot. His armor was already covered in dust, grass, and wood chips.
Using a powerful glowing spell to dazzle the eyes, accompanied by starlight dancing wildly overhead, creating a loud bang with a booming voice, followed by a silencing spell that could make someone instantly doubt their deafness, using a transformation spell to soften the ground, or even simply using her wand to deflect an opponent's attack, Hermione was as skilled as a seasoned wizard.
"Has she already finished the first-year curriculum?!" Ron asked incredulously.
"I think so..." Harry swallowed hard.
"Sandstorm!" Hermione braced herself with her staff to dodge a leg-locking curse, and in doing so, kicked up sand that briefly obscured Lucius's vision.
"Radiant Stone Shards!" "Radiant Stone Shards!" "Radiant Stone Shards!"
Three streaks of light left three blue dents on the Ironclad Curse. After enduring multiple attacks, the Ironclad Curse finally developed some cracks, like glass gradually shattering.
"Thunderous explosion!" This was Lucius's first time chanting a spell. He had previously chosen to cast spells quickly and silently, but he was now tired of it.
"Boom!" With the cane slamming into the ground, a loud bang was heard, and the area covered by smoke and dust was covered by the explosion.
"Lucius! What are you doing!" The huge explosion startled McGonagall, and she screamed as she rushed over.
"Don't worry, your little girl won't die." Lucius sneered, looking up at the sky and casting an Ironclad Curse on himself.
Meanwhile, Hermione, who had briefly lifted herself into the air using the Levitation Charm, plummeted back down.
While suspended in mid-air, she remained calm and unhurried, reaching out to pull the dueling dummies on the wall one by one, throwing them at Lucius, but they were all blown to pieces by Lucius swinging his cane halfway through.
"Is that all you know?" Lucius sneered, drawing a circle with his cane. The grass beneath Hermione tumbled, and a massive, rocky maw covered in sharp teeth materialized.
"Don't expose yourself to the uncontrollable air before you truly master flight!" He no longer needed to do anything extra; simply watching the little girl fall freely was enough to end the battle.
Amidst the billowing dust, Hermione's school robes fluttered, and a shard of shattered dummy wood left a bloody scratch on her face, but she was completely oblivious.
The staff spun in his palm, then he gripped it tightly, as if holding a large club.
"What is she going to do?" Everyone was wondering.
All of this happened in just a few seconds; almost no one had time to react before they saw Hermione about to fall into the mouth of the rock filled with sharp teeth.
But the next second, Hermione, who had nowhere to get a foothold in the air, suddenly stretched out her leg and pushed off backward, and miraculously darted more than two meters away, as if she had stepped on thin air.
"It's a Transfiguration Charm! She turned the dust and sawdust into a solid mass in an instant," Professor McGonagall said incredulously. This wasn't something a first-year student would learn.
While the Transfiguration Charm can alter mass, it has its limits. Theoretically, it is possible to turn air into stone, but even Dumbledore wouldn't do something so laborious and thankless. However, Hermione took a shortcut. The dust she and Lucius created together, along with the wood fragments from the explosion, significantly increased the mass of the solid object currently called "air." This made it much easier for her to use Transfiguration to change it.
However, using a large amount of uneven three-dimensional space as the target of a spell is an extremely difficult thing in itself. Even if it is essentially just the transformation of inorganic matter in the first year, in terms of skill, many adult wizards may not be able to do it. It is not that they lack magic power, but that they lack imagination. For wizards, what they cannot think of, they naturally cannot do.
In an instant, this leverage completely freed Hermione from the mouth of the rock below, and placed her on top of Lucius's head.
"Still thinking about fighting back?" Lucius sneered. As it turned out, the little girl had no way to break his armor spell. Moreover, out of caution, he replaced the armor spell with a new one before it broke.
Hermione raised her staff high, in a pose reminiscent of the ancient Eastern "splitting Mount Hua" (a powerful feat of splitting a mountain).
"Trying to break the Ironclad Curse with a wand? Has this girl lost her mind?" Even McGonagall had this thought as her first thought.
Lucius, on the other hand, didn't even bother to attack at this moment, making it more interesting for Hermione to be bounced away by the Ironclad Curse.
At this moment, Hermione was like a lone knight charging against an invincible giant.
No one believed in her foolish leaping attack; this was a magical world, not a medieval world of swords and knights.
But Hermione wasn't really going to smash the turtle shell with the stick; the wand's abundant sapphire power wasn't just for releasing magic stones.
"Kalia's Swift Sword".
With a soft murmur in his heart, a fluorescent blue blade of light burst forth from the head of the staff.
The staff, which was originally 1.5 meters long, has now transformed into a 2-meter-long spear with blades of light, and it slashes down with the force of falling!
"laugh!"
Like a hot knife cutting through butter, Lucius's armor shattered, the broken part melting like transparent glass.
Before anyone could react, Hermione landed safely, and the Ironclad Charm was split in two, slowly disappearing like drifting ash.
Lucius, however, stood frozen in place, motionless.
He was not injured. Hermione retracted her light blade at the last moment, and the Swiftblade of Caria only broke through the Iron Armor Charm before grazing past Lucius.
Even so, a strand of his platinum hair fell down.
"Thank you for the favor, Professor." Hermione straightened up, moving her sore feet. Even with the magical cushioning, falling from a height was still painful.
"This is outrageous!" Professor McGonagall stormed into the circle, looking at the two wizards, one big and one small.
"Lucius, how could you use an Explosion Charm on a little wizard! What if she didn't dodge it!"
"Miss Granger, you almost killed the professor! You almost got yourself killed too! Do you know that?!"
"I'm sorry, Professor, you can deduct points from my score." Hermione stared innocently at McGonagall. "I was also frightened by that Explosion Charm."
McGonagall paused, then glared angrily at Lucius, who seemed to have just recovered from a near-death experience. The blade of light grazed his face as it fell, and he could even feel the intense heat and radiation within it.
"Um... I saw that she did a very good job... with ease... so I thought... I'd give it a try..." Lucius seemed a little shaken. The dignified head of Malfoy Castle was almost killed by a first-year wizard because of carelessness. If this got out, the Malfoy family would become the biggest joke in the wizarding world.
"Alright! Fortunately, no one was hurt!" Professor Flitwick also seemed very frightened. He inherited the sensitivity of fairies and felt as if he himself had almost been cleaved in two, patting his chest.
"Let's end this farce, we still have classes to continue." He patted old Malfoy's leg: "Lucius, the seventh-year students have finished, you can watch the other grades for me, I'll take over the first-year classes."
The latter nodded somewhat absentmindedly, then turned and walked away.
"As for you, Miss Granger, your unique magic is too powerful, and I have to forbid you from using it in student battles." The short professor gave her an apologetic look.
"Of course, Professor, I know my limits." Hermione smiled sweetly and returned to the group.
