Hogwarts Wasteland: The Witch from the Borderlands
Chapter 26: Gryffindor -1 points
In the following lessons, under Flitwick's organization, all the children went up in pairs to conduct practical exercises.
Inevitably, occasionally someone gets injured, and Mrs. Pomfrey, who is always by their side, will take them away.
Aside from Draco and Hermione, there were exactly 10 first-year students left. Harry and Ron were in a group, but Ron's old wand was really unresponsive, and his levitation spell was shaky and clumsy.
Harry wasn't much stronger, but his wand was a heavy steel chain. Even if he couldn't swing it, just lifting it would scare Ron into running around in terror. So Professor Flitwick had to restrict Harry's wand, allowing him to use it only for spellcasting and not for hitting people.
Of course, like Hermione's ban on spells, it is only valid in the first year. Once all the children have learned more magic, they can use any means to practice, after all, that is the purpose of practical lessons.
During this time, Hermione also wanted to go up and practice with the other children, but no one was willing to face the Gryphon Queen, whose combat power was off the charts. Even Harry, who had a strong adventurous spirit, felt a chill run down his spine when he thought of Hermione's sword falling from the sky, not to mention Professor Potter's murderous gaze behind him—his actual combat performance was really not good.
However, Professor Potter's gaze towards Hermione now carried a doting, loving tenderness.
However, Hermione knew very well how much of her performance was lacking.
Although Lucius used a powerful Explosion Charm, as he said, this slow-moving, chanting attack wouldn't hurt her; it only looked impressive. If Lucius had started with all sorts of Unforgivable Curses and thrown out all the potions he had on him, Hermione probably wouldn't have lasted long.
While Lucius was indeed caught off guard by Hermione's slash from above, in a true life-or-death battle, his opponent wouldn't arrogantly stand there and catch the sword in his face. From the air to the ground, there were too many opportunities to interrupt or dodge.
Not to mention the trigger-type alchemical products on Lucius's body, even Voldemort of the Green Flame Party would have to put in a lot of effort to kill this wealthy old snake.
In short, Hermione only managed to get away with it thanks to the combined benefits of the practical training and Lucius's carelessness, barely managing to nearly defeat Malfoy.
Even so, the continuous use of Radiant Stone Shards had depleted a significant portion of the Radiant Stone power remaining on her staff. She resolved that she would not use Radiant Stone magic again unless in a critical situation, and unless she could find a way to replenish it.
-------------------------------------
After a practical lesson, in the eyes of the other students at the school, the scene of this first-year girl leaping and slashing old Malfoy in mid-air was almost etched into the best scene of Hogwarts' seven years.
Previously, whether it was crippling Draco or confronting Lucius head-on, it was all just hearsay. This time, however, it was a real-world combat lesson for the entire school, with over two hundred students and professors from four colleges. Everyone witnessed this scene.
Lucius's hard-earned prestige, built up over several years, was almost completely destroyed in one fell swoop. Although everyone knew that Hermione was no match for him, whether it was carelessness or holding back, the fact remained that the dignified Head of Slytherin, Professor of Defense Against Wizardry, and head of the Malfoy family was almost cleaved in two by a first-year student.
Hermione's title as Queen of Gryphon was thoroughly adopted by the Fred and George brothers, and her title of Snake Crusher was gloriously upgraded to Snake Slayer. At the same time, she also gained increasingly serious hostility from Slytherin.
But Hermione didn't care about any of that. She preferred to immerse herself in her magical world, eating, reading, and attending classes. If there were no fights, she would just focus on learning magic, and fights would eventually come to her.
Because of the scarcity of sapphire power, Hermione began to focus on researching other magic with less restrictive limitations, prioritizing gravity magic that would allow her to gracefully manipulate a flying broom.
Professor McGonagall finally found the old textbooks for the second year, and probably to avoid Hermione beating someone up again, she sped up the pace.
It was an old book belonging to a third-year student named Cedric. Although he was from Houndhouse, Cedric's grades were always excellent; people would believe he was from Eaglehouse. Moreover, he was humble and polite. Hermione could tell that he was a well-protected child who had not been exposed to much of the darkness of the world and possessed a sense of justice and kindness that was out of step with the outside world.
Of course, without this kindness, she wouldn't have been able to borrow the old textbooks, so she sincerely thanked the other party and promised to repay them if she had the chance in the future.
The content covered in the second-grade textbooks is no longer like the playful games in the first grade. Perhaps because of the cruelty of the world, the second graders begin to be exposed to more types of knowledge that were previously considered dangerous.
The book covers topics such as the transformation of plants and animals, the preparation of highly poisonous potions, some potent poisons and curses, and begins to explore magical theory to a limited extent. However, Cedric underlines some parts of the book as "Optional reading, not on the final exam."
Hermione didn't care about electives or required courses; these basic introductions to magical theory were exactly what she needed.
Converting the magic of the borderlands into cash as soon as possible will greatly improve your survival ability in this wasteland world.
Or perhaps they absorb ideas from another world to create entirely new spells unique to this world.
Days passed by, and Hermione spent her time either attending classes and reading books or accompanying Harry and Ron on nighttime outings.
Although they spent most of their time either wandering around the tower or going to Hagrid's place to eat rock bread, the two boys couldn't resist the lioness's authority and were forcibly dragged to the library's restricted section several times.
In fact, many books that were once banned have been debanned and placed in areas where ordinary students can borrow them, but students must be at least in the fourth grade or above to do so.
What remained in the forbidden book section were some extremely evil books that were even more anti-human. Walking among these books late at night, the chill and whispers were enough to drive anyone mad. Ron swore that every time he went to the forbidden book section, he would have nightmares for three nights.
However, Hermione was completely oblivious. Those books, whose covers seemed to exude malice, became as docile as mischievous children who had just been beaten, appearing ready to be pampered. But Hermione's current knowledge was insufficient to learn the contents. She only skimmed the contents to make connections for future in-depth study, and then discarded those dangerous and precious books as if they were worthless.
They also sneaked into Professor Sprout's greenhouse at night, opened the door with Hermione's skillful lockpicking charm, and while the two boys were admiring the huge poisonous tentacles, she grabbed two white phosphorus flowers and plucked them, then pulled the two away before Professor Sprout arrived—although she could pick locks, she obviously couldn't dispel the magical alarms set up by the professor.
However, apart from Hermione, no one in the entire school asked the professor about the white phosphorus flower. Although Hermione wasn't caught red-handed, Professor Sprout deducted a lot of points from Gryffindor in a later class because she stepped into the classroom with her left foot.
