Chapter 3 One Night with Harley Quinn
Connors has rented three places in Gotham, and he and Harley Quinn are currently at one of them.
Because he was worried that the bedding left by the landlord was too dirty, he bought all new ones, including the snow-white pillows on the bed.
At this moment, he gripped the pillow with both hands, and the large, soft pillow core kept changing shape in his hands.
Moreover, due to the presence of the spider sense, Connors' senses seemed to have become more refined, which manifested as a better experience...
……
The swaying bed gradually calmed down, and Connors lit a cigarette afterward, looking at Harley Quinn lying in his arms with satisfaction.
[Today's Gossip: A Night with Harley Quinn]
[Submit or not?]
It was 3 a.m., and the gossip system had already begun recording today's biggest gossip.
Connors lit a cigarette, hesitated for a moment, and then clicked "No".
No rush, only three hours have passed in the new day, there's plenty of time.
He got up and walked to the window, looking out at the night sky. The bat light projected by Chief Gordon was still reflected on the dark clouds.
Because it was a rainy night outside, it was pitch black, and apart from the bat lamp, Connors couldn't see much scenery. Harley Quinn swayed her hips as she walked up to him and glanced curiously out the window.
"Mysterious sir, you said you'd lead me to turn Gotham City upside down. You'd better have some skills, let me guess..."
Just then, Connors felt a chill run down his spine, as if some dangerous entity in the dark outside world was watching him.
"Guess my ass."
He roughly grabbed Harley Quinn, forced her to kneel in front of him, and then looked outside with a furrowed brow.
Although it's invisible to the naked eye, the spider's sensory system just gave a frantic warning, indicating that someone is outside.
His residence is located on the nineteenth floor, with smooth glass walls on the outside, making it impossible for ordinary people to get up there. However, there is one exception in Gotham City: Batman.
Fortunately, the bedroom window wasn't a floor-to-ceiling window. Harley Quinn was pinned down and unable to get up, so from the outside, all that could be seen was Connors with his upper body bare.
"Hey, still busy?"
He seemed to be talking to himself. Although he couldn't see outside, his spider-sense allowed him to pinpoint Batman's location, and he stared intently at him.
Batman cannot see Harley Quinn with his naked eye, but his infrared vision can penetrate walls, making it impossible to see her face clearly.
According to the timeline, Harley Quinn's identity in the outside world is still that of a consultant hired by Arkham Asylum, "Harley Quinzel," and she is not the real Harley Quinn yet.
With the monetary reward from the gossip system, he obtained a legal identity on his third day here.
From any perspective, Batman had no reason to arrest himself and Harley Quinn at this point.
Having figured this out, Connors smiled and looked at Batman outside with even more unbridled arrogance.
……
"Alfred, help me look up this guy named 'Connors Patterson'."
Through the rain, Batman Bruce Wayne spoke in a low voice, his gaze fixed on the young man on the nineteenth floor across the street who seemed to have spotted him.
"Have new targets emerged? Let me see."
Through the walkie-talkie built into the Bat-helmet, the butler Alfred spoke calmly, and a message quickly followed, accompanied by the sound of keyboard clicks:
"Connors Paterson, 25 years old, of Asian descent, a layabout, has been a frequent visitor to the 'Ghost Face Bar' recently, with no criminal record."
"...However, all this information is fabricated. The only true piece of information is that he frequents bars. Young Master Wayne, have you discovered anything?"
"Not yet, but this guy seems to be able to see me," Bruce Wayne said. "Add him to the watchlist."
"No problem. Shall we continue searching for the Joker?" the butler asked on the other end of the walkie-talkie.
"I'll observe for a while longer."
"Just a heads up, the other person is completely naked right now, Mr. Wayne. When did you develop this kind of fetish?"
"..."
……
According to Spider-Sense, Batman outside had not left, and Connors had not returned to bed either, remaining standing by the window.
"They should be investigating my identity now. My public identity is fine, but with Wayne Enterprises' methods, they should be able to find out that it's fake."
"But even if they find out, they definitely won't know anything about my real information. I refuse to believe they'll discover I'm from another time."
During his contemplation, Harley Quinn, kneeling before him, tried to stand up several times, but he pressed her down each time. Finally, she couldn't resist any longer:
"Hey, what are you trying to do? My knees are all swollen!"
Harley Quinn still doesn't know his name and refers to him as "Feed" instead.
Connors stroked Harley Quinn's head, his eyes fixed on the window, and said softly:
"You used to be a consultant at Arkham Asylum, right?"
Harley Quinn nodded repeatedly, like a chick pecking at rice.
"You should know that the Joker's enemy is Batman, right?" Connors continued.
He continued nodding.
"That guy is keeping watch outside right now."
After Connors finished speaking, Harley Quinn understood:
"You're afraid of him? I'm not."
Connors chuckled. He was innocent now, so what was there to be afraid of?
Harley Quinn isn't afraid of Batman, which makes sense, considering she's just transitioned from a psychiatrist to a madwoman and hasn't officially fought Batman yet.
She had never suffered the same defeat as the Joker at the hands of Batman.
Then Connors finally understood just how "fearless" Harley was; she actually started playing music for herself even with Batman outside.
"hiss……"
Connors gasped. The presence of his spider-sense amplified the stimulation, almost making him shiver. But with Batman outside, Harley's condition didn't matter; he had to stay on his guard.
When he regained his composure and looked out the window, Batman's presence had completely vanished from his spider-sense.
……
On the 23rd floor of the building where Connors was located, Batman felt a little awkward listening to Alfred's teasing over the walkie-talkie.
He's Batman, not a voyeur; tonight's events were truly unexpected for him.
"Look how energetic these young people are, Mr. Wayne, you should probably find a partner soon."
Bruce Wayne silently turned off the walkie-talkie, leaped off the building, his cape billowing as he glided toward the spotlight.
Today, a psychological counselor named Harleen Quezel released the Joker from Arkham Asylum, and with the help of Poison Ivy, all the prisoners escaped.
Tonight will be another sleepless night.
