Chapter 237 Divine Right of Kings
Chapter 237 Divine Right of Kings
Commander-in-Chief Mike, the commander of the Japanese forces, was a sensible man. After deciding to defect to Xiao Xian, he not only helped retain most of the military equipment but also personally persuaded Xiao Xian to retain most of the officers and soldiers.
In return, and adhering to the principle of making the best use of resources, Xiao Xian asked him to act as a representative to help accept the surrender of Japan.
On the one hand, Mike and the troops stationed in Japan are not locals, and they have the power to divert attention from conflicts and get things done.
On the other hand, the Japanese were also used to being dominated by the Japanese troops stationed there, which made it very efficient for them to persuade the Japanese to surrender, and they caused very few problems.
It didn't take long for the entire neon-lit city to openly surrender, while undercurrents continued to surge beneath the surface.
After all, it is a modern country that has completed the construction of a nation-state. Even if the government is swayed, there will still be many organizations in the private sector that try to resist.
Similar situations exist in other countries, not only recently destroyed, but also a decade or two later.
However, most of the resistance organizations were quickly identified because Xiao Xian took action. Catching them one by one was not feasible. Xiao Xian's solution was simple: he maximized his charisma and gave a nationally televised speech in Japan.
In an instant, Xiao Xian gained half of his most fervent female fans. Forget about organizing against the organization; if anyone dared to say a bad word about Xiao Xian in front of these fervent fans, even his father, husband, or son would be reported without hesitation.
Putting aside the resistance organizations, those who spoke ill of Xiao Xian, although not punishable by death under the law, were often beaten to death by angry, fanatical fans before they could even be arrested.
Not only those who actually dared to criticize Xiao Xian, but also many Japanese men who spoke ill of Xiao Xian, and even those who were wrongly accused, were beaten to death by the angry mob. However, since Xiao Xian didn't care about the lives of these Japanese men, he didn't bother with them. What he needed now was stability.
Anyway, as long as visa restrictions are relaxed and maternity subsidies are increased, raising the birth rate is not a difficult task. As for the marriage rate, Xiao Xian doesn't care about that. As long as people have children, who cares whether they are born in or out of wedlock, whether they are naturally pregnant or conceived artificially? Even if all the men in Japan are killed, Xiao Xian can still find a way to boost the birth rate.
Anyway, if Japanese men are all gone, there are still Chinese men. If all else fails, we can just have them all artificially conceived. After all, one man is enough to carry a whole bunch of women.
As for the desire to have children, if it's really not possible, then a points system can be implemented, where having children adds points. As long as you have enough children, even a murderer won't have to go to hell after death.
Ultimately, most people don't not have children not because they are completely unwilling, but because the costs of having children far outweigh the benefits. Coupled with the high pressure of life, naturally fewer people are willing to have children.
Previously, the rulers and bourgeoisie in Japan were unwilling to share profits with the people, putting immense pressure on them. The Japanese government was also unable to extract enough profits from the rulers and bourgeoisie to support the people in having children.
But now the new ruling class in Japan is Xiao Xian and the Egyptian gods. Although they are still exploiting, they are exploiting souls, faith, money, resources and so on. They don't care about anything else.
Xiao Xian took a lot of money and resources from the vested interests and distributed them to the people, attracting overseas immigrants, etc. The gods only wanted souls. As for who lived on this land of Japan, or whether they had Japanese blood flowing through their veins, the gods didn't care.
After the situation in Japan had largely stabilized and the next development direction had been determined, Xiao Xian summoned Amanette to hold a coronation ceremony. Although this queen was merely a mascot representing the divine right of kings in the theocratic kingdom and had little real power, it was still a fulfillment of Xiao Xian's promise to Amanette.
Incidentally, this also demonstrates the power of the gods, making the Japanese understand that resistance leads to certain death, and thus completely stabilizing the situation in Japan.
The much-anticipated coronation ceremony was about to begin, and the palace was packed with people from all over Japan. Above the palace hung a huge golden disc, like a radiant little sun, shining with a sacred light.
Xiao Xian, representing the Egyptian gods, was dressed in a silver-white robe and possessed extraordinary handsome features. He held a scepter, the top of which was inlaid with a dazzling fiery red gemstone. Xiao Xian slowly ascended the steps, looking down at the crowd below.
The Japanese women mostly looked at Xiao Xian with fervor, while many Japanese men looked at Xiao Xian with deep resentment or even hatred in their eyes, but few dared to express it or take any action.
Xiao Xian's gaze swept across the crowd below the stage, lingering briefly on one of the ordinary-looking men. Xiao Xian understood that this man was a member of the resistance organization, and that he would risk his life to assassinate a lucky high-ranking member today.
However, Xiao Xian did not intend to stop him. On the contrary, Xiao Xian specifically instructed the security personnel to search him freely and to stay away from him during patrols.
After looking at the crowd below the stage, Xiao Xian turned to Anmanette, who was looking excited.
"The will of God is with you!" Xiao Xian solemnly declared, his voice carrying far and wide. "Amanette, you will become the Queen of Japan, leading them to the path of peace and prosperity."
Anmanette slowly knelt down, dressed in a long white dress, her dazzling golden eyes gleaming in the light. She respectfully extended her head, allowing Xiao Xian to place the crown on her head. Her body trembled with excitement; buried underground for thousands of years, today her wish had finally come true.
A roar of cheers erupted from the crowd, with people chanting "Long live the gods!" and "May we be forever protected by them!"
Following the officials' congratulations, as Mike walked through the aisle in the middle of the crowd according to the rehearsed script, a young man suddenly emerged from the crowd, gun in hand, and rushed towards the aisle. Before anyone could react, he fired two shots at Mike!
"Ah!" Mike screamed, his body going limp as he collapsed to the ground, blood quickly spreading across his black tuxedo.
"Long live Japan! Japan will never die! All of you who aid and abet the enemy will be punished!" the young man shouted, smoke still billowing from the muzzle of his gun.
After committing the crime, the young man's face contorted with rage as he pressed the gun to his temple.
"I will never yield! Even if my soul is tormented forever! Japanese people! Unite and resist the rule of the false god!" He roared, his eyes burning with fanatical flames, seemingly prepared to die.
A gunshot suddenly rang out, but to everyone's surprise, the gun only fired a string of transparent bubbles! The bubbles rippled in the air, shimmering with brilliant colors.
The young man froze, staring in disbelief at the bubbles rising higher and higher in the sunlight. Just then, Xiao Xian stepped into the air and flew above the young man, looking down at him.
"You false god! How dare you call yourself a deity!" the young man cursed through gritted teeth. "Even if I am imprisoned and tortured by you forever, my soul will never submit! I have no regrets!"
"Young man, you have a lot of courage." Xiao Xian calmly watched the young man's impassioned manner, without any intention of stopping him. The more righteous and awe-inspiring he was now, the more shocking he would be when he begged for mercy later.
