Chapter 109 Misunderstanding

Lux's voice, sharp with anger, shattered the silence of the Forbidden Forest.

"You are one of the most powerful wizards in the magical world today. You possess power and wisdom that many people can only dream of, yet because of an accident decades ago and a failed relationship, you've locked yourself in Hogwarts. You're simply running away!"

"Grindelwald is recruiting soldiers and building up his power. Now that he has the runes, his power may have surpassed yours! What he wants is conquest and domination! He will destroy countless lives! And you're here agonizing over who's right and who's wrong?!"

"Look at yourself now! You've let down your power, you've let down those who saw hope in you! And you've let down your dead sister! If you had been more decisive, more assertive, perhaps Grindelwald wouldn't be where he is today!"

Lux's roar echoed through the woods, and Dumbledore's body trembled violently, as if he had been stabbed by her words.

His face was pale, his lips moved, but he couldn't utter a single word in rebuttal.

Lux was breathing heavily, her chest heaving, as she stared intently at Dumbledore.

After a long while, Dumbledore slowly raised his head. Although there was still pain in his eyes, the hesitation seemed to have been dispelled by Lux's rebuke, replaced by a clear-headedness that was forced to face reality.

"You're right, Lux." His voice was unusually hoarse.

"Perhaps—I have indeed been running away for too long, and Ariana's death—cannot be an excuse for my inaction."

He took a deep breath, straightened his body, and although he was tired, the majesty that belonged to the white wizard seemed to have returned somewhat.

"I cannot allow Grindelwald to do as he pleases with that power. Whether I am ready to face him or not, I must act."

Dumbledore paused, his tone still carrying a hint of helplessness and realistic consideration: "However, Lux, as you said, he has already obtained the Conqueror rune. Directly challenging him, especially with the possibility of him having Saints protecting him, has extremely slim chances of success, and may even prompt him to fully master the power of the rune more quickly."

His gaze returned to the Black Lake. "Our more pressing task is to ensure that these two runes inside Hogwarts, as well as other runes that may be scattered around the world, do not fall into his hands. I need to learn more about runes and find ways to safely house or control them, or at least prevent him from getting them so easily."

He looked at Lux: "You seem to have a unique talent for safely absorbing them, which may be our advantage. We also need time, Lux. Use time to judge, to prepare, and to look for opportunities."

Lux understood what Dumbledore meant.

He acknowledged the threat and decided to stop running away, but his first choice was not to engage in direct combat, but rather to more cautiously strengthen defenses, gather intelligence, and weaken the enemy's potential sources of power.

This is very Dumbledore, full of consideration, but it also leaves Lux, who is eager to retaliate immediately, feeling powerless.

She knew Dumbledore was right; rushing to confront Grindelwald and the Mughal Party now would be tantamount to suicide.

But she couldn't help but clench her fists. Time was what both sides lacked most at this moment.

"So what do we do next?" Lux asked, suppressing her anxiety.

"First," Dumbledore regained his composure, "we need to ensure the safety of the runes at Hogwarts. The one in the Black Lake needs to be retrieved as soon as possible. Second, we need to gather as many clues as possible about the possible locations of the other runes."

He looked at Lux, his gaze turning serious: "And you, Lux, you need to continue learning, to better master the power you already possess, including the magic he taught you. Although you are already stronger than most Aurors, it's still not enough."

Dumbledore said softly, "Let's go, it's almost dawn. You've had a long and tiring journey to the Soviet Union, Miss Lux. You need to get some rest."

He gently waved his wand, and a blue spell lightly brushed over Lux, who immediately felt a wave of drowsiness wash over her.

"Professor—you—" Lux fell unconscious on the ground before she could finish speaking. Dumbledore used Transfiguration to make a blanket and wrapped Lux in it.

"Sleep, child. You are carrying too much on your shoulders right now. The future of the magical world may be yours, but right now, it is the adult wizards who should face the storm."

Lux felt as if she were struggling to float up from the bottom of a very deep body of water. Her consciousness was hazy, her body was limp, and her eyelids were so heavy that she could hardly lift them. The only clear feeling was a series of subtle and persistent tingling sensations on her neck, accompanied by a warm and slow sucking sensation.

She struggled to open her eyes, and it took her a moment to focus.

What came into view was a large expanse of silky, flowing silver-white hair scattered around Lux's pillow, making her cheeks itch.

Then, she saw Eve's exquisite face so close to hers, her blood-red eyes half-closed, as she slowly sucked the blood from Lux's neck.

Eve's cool, soft body was almost entirely pressed against her, and a kind of overly full, soft touch was squeezing her arms and chest tightly.

Eve's breathing was light, carrying a faint, rusty, sweet, and metallic scent—the smell of blood.

and many more? !

This pose?!

What's with this atmosphere?!

And why do I feel so weak and have no strength at all?!

"Eve—get up first—"

Lux tried to push her away, but found her arms were as weak as two noodles. Turning her head to look at the magical calendar, she realized that today was the first day of school at Hogwarts.

She suddenly realized that Dumbledore had put her to sleep and she should have woken up in a day, but she had slept for three whole days.

It turns out Eve had been secretly drinking blood all along! Anemia combined with the spell's effects left her in a deep sleep.

Seemingly sensing Lux's awakening and her faint resistance, Eve slowly raised her head.

A streak of bright red blood slid down from the corner of her lips, adding an eerie beauty to her face. She stuck out her small tongue and gently licked away the crimson stain, her movements carrying a feline languor and satisfaction.

She looked down at Lux, a faint hint of confusion flashing in her cold eyes, as if she didn't understand why the food suddenly moved and made a sound.

Just as Lux was trying to gather her strength to speak again, the dormitory door clicked open.

"Lax? Are you back? I heard—" Vera's cheerful voice came to an abrupt halt.

She was holding a carefully wrapped little box in her hands, clearly preparing some kind of gift. However, the smile on her face froze instantly, replaced by extreme shock and disbelief.

Her gaze was fixed on the bed, where Lux lay disheveled and pale, while a white-haired beauty she had never seen before was lying on top of Lux in an extremely intimate, even ambiguous, position, with suspicious bright red marks still remaining on her lips.

Vera's light gray-blue eyes widened instantly, followed by a surge of rage.
