Chapter 110 New Semester
"You! Who are you?! What did you do to Lux?!" she screamed, pulling out her holly wand and pointing it at Eve.
Startled by the sudden scream and the wand, Eve slowly turned her head, looked at Vera expressionlessly, tilted her head, and let her long silver hair flow down.
She didn't seem to fully understand the situation before her, but subconsciously bared her teeth slightly, letting out a low, threatening hiss, revealing sharp canines, a clear characteristic of vampires.
"No! Vera! No!" Lux cried out with all her might, her voice weak but filled with urgency. "She's not the enemy! She's Eve, she's a friend! Put down your wand!"
Vera's hand, holding the wand, froze in mid-air. She looked at Lux in disbelief: "A friend? Sister Lux, she—"
She's a vampire! She just bit you! She's sucking your blood!
Tears welled up in Vera's eyes, a mixture of anger, worry, and a sense of betrayal. She couldn't comprehend what was happening before her.
"It's complicated. Eve's blood is what keeps her sane. She won't hurt me—" Lux explained with difficulty, feeling a throbbing pain in her temples.
"Believe me, Vera, please put your wand down first. You scared her. It's all a misunderstanding."
Although it looks more like Eve scared Vera.
Vera looked at Lux's pale, weak, yet unusually serious face, and then glared warily at the still expressionless vampire, her heart in turmoil.
Ultimately, her trust in Lux prevailed, and she reluctantly and slowly lowered her wand, but the hostility and suspicion in her eyes did not diminish in the slightest.
Eve seemed to sense that the threat had been removed. She looked at Vera, then at Lux.
She seemed to be trying to be friendly, so she reached out her cool, slender hand and gently, mimicking Lux's usual soothing gesture, touched Vera's dark brown hair.
What Eve might have seen as a gesture of goodwill was, in Vera's eyes, a great provocation and humiliation, in the midst of shock, anger, and resentment.
"Don't touch me!"
Vera slapped Eve's hand away and rushed to Lux's bedside, hugging Lux's other arm tightly. Her voice trembling with tears, she declared, "I knew Lux first! We're best friends! You—you bloodsucking monster, stay away from her!"
Eve's hand was slapped away, but she still tilted her head, her face showing pure confusion.
She seemed unable to comprehend Vera's complex emotional outburst. She glanced at Vera, who was clinging tightly to Lux's arm as if declaring ownership, and then at Lux, who was caught in the middle, looking utterly helpless.
Then, she reacted as well.
Silently, she reached out and hugged Lux's other side, pressing her cool cheek against Lux's shoulder and neck, and then stated in her flat, emotionless voice, "Mine, my master feeds me every day."
These words struck Vera like a bolt from the blue, completely stunning her.
"Master—Master?! Feeding you every day?! Sister Lux! What on earth is going on?! You made her—you made her—" Vera's voice rose considerably, and tears finally broke free. She looked at Lux, her eyes filled with despair and an overwhelming sense of disbelief.
The terrorist attack she had imagined instantly transformed into a more incomprehensible, intimate yet bizarre master-servant relationship, which completely overloaded her little brain.
Lux looked at Eve in shock. She had just casually mentioned that she could keep adopting Eve, so how did it get interpreted as a master-servant relationship?
Lux felt like she was being torn apart by these two forces. She opened her mouth, preparing to organize her thoughts for a more detailed, abridged explanation—
"Da, da, da."
The crisp, rhythmic sound of high heels echoed in the corridor, growing louder as it approached, finally stopping at the door of their dormitory.
The door was pushed open again.
Malena Rozier stood in the doorway, dressed in a dark green, well-tailored Slytherin school uniform.
Her dark brown curly hair was meticulously styled, and her face carried her usual slightly arrogant and inquisitive expression, as if she had come to see Lux about something.
Then, her gaze fell on the room.
Her gaze swept quickly over Lux, who was lying on the bed, pale-faced and disheveled.
On the left, an unfamiliar white-haired beauty is intimately embracing Lux's neck.
On the right, the mixed-race werewolf Vera is clinging to Lux's arm with teary eyes, looking aggrieved.
Malena's expression changed several times in an instant.
Her sharp gaze swept back and forth between the three for a full three seconds, as if she were dealing with an extremely complex magical problem that was beyond her comprehension.
Then, she said nothing.
There were no questions, no exclamations, and not even a twitch of an eyebrow.
She simply and very slowly, as if she hadn't seen anything, pulled the door she had just pushed open back down and closed it silently.
"Click."
The sound of the door lock closing was exceptionally clear in the quiet dormitory room.
Lux: "————"
She closed her eyes in despair and took a deep breath.
Damn it, this is completely inextricable now. Malena's look definitely indicated that she was thinking about France.
It took Lux a full half hour and a bunch of weak explanations, like "she's just a special roommate I picked up, who's really good at fighting and needs to be fed blood regularly," to barely calm the furious Vera down and convince her that Eve wasn't an evil vampire who came to steal Lux's "best friend" title.
Then, she used a combination of coaxing and deception, employing the absurd excuse that "Dumbledore's office has specially supplied dragon's blood flavored cookies."
Lux managed to lure Eve, who had no interest in cookies but was unusually obedient to Lux, to the principal's office door, where she was handed over to the house-elf. Lux watched as the house-elf led Eve inside with a "It's you again" look on its face, and only then did Lux breathe a long sigh of relief.
She buried herself in the armchair in the far corner of the Gryffindor common room, wishing she could bury herself in it and cut herself off from the world forever.
"Merlin's tattered socks—this is terrible—" Lux let out a weak wail.
Lumi poked her head out of the wicker basket, munching on a biscuit, and mumbled indistinctly, "Bubble—little sister, I think your interpersonal relationship balancing skills are far inferior to your magic."
"Shut up, Lumi, if you misuse words again I'll stuff you into a pillowcase and use you as a pillow!" Lux threatened weakly, rubbing her still throbbing temples.
Anemia combined with the emotional trauma has made her see everyone as someone full of bitterness and hatred.
However, Merlin clearly didn't want her to have an easy time today.
Anna cautiously moved closer and nudged her with her elbow.
"Hey, Lux, that Slytherin lady is here again at the door. She looks worse than a troll who's ruined a potion. After you've finished dealing with your—uh, personal matters, go find her in that empty classroom on the seventh floor."
Anna made an exaggeratedly sour face: "What did you do to offend her? I feel like she looks at people like they're trash."
"Fine, there's one more. Merlin, you might as well kill me!" Lux resignedly got up and walked out of the common room.
