Chapter 32 Principal's Scholarship
"Cheng Sui, you did an excellent job on your mission last night. You truly deserve to be our newly promoted A-level elite."
Inside the principal's office, Angers and Cheng Sui sat facing each other, with the documents Angers had just been reading on the large spruce desk.
Being invited to afternoon tea by the principal is an honor that Kassel College envied even more than a scholarship, and Cheng Sui had already been invited twice in just half a month.
Unlike his initial awkwardness upon arriving at the principal's office, Cheng Sui appeared much more relaxed this time.
"That's pretty good. I defeated an A-level hybrid corrupted Deadpool all by myself, and that was during an interview."
Angers rested his elbows on the desk, leaned forward, and looked at Cheng Sui: "I can see you have a lot of questions. Go ahead, isn't afternoon tea for leisurely conversation?"
Cheng Sui looked around the office environment.
It was no different from the last time I came. The walls were covered with oil paintings and bookshelves that reached the ceiling, displaying sets of hardcover books and rubbings of ancient books.
Only the gradually accumulating fallen leaves in the central skylight hint at the passage of time.
Staying in this kind of environment, it must feel like time has stopped flowing. Is this how the principal has been all these years? Cheng thought.
Angers took two white bone china cups from the bookshelf behind his desk, tidied up the desk a little, and gently placed the cups on the desk.
Then Angers turned around and picked up a delicate little teapot from behind him. Cheng Sui could smell the aroma of the tea from a distance.
"Afternoon tea is a fine British tradition passed down from the Victorian era," Angers said, bending down to slowly pour Cheng Sui a cup of black tea. "It's Qimen black tea from your hometown, and it tastes wonderful."
Although the older man in front of him was elegantly brewing tea, he gave Cheng Sui the flirtatious feeling of a bartender. The elegance and flirtatiousness of the same person did not seem out of place at all, but rather complemented each other.
Cheng Sui picked up the bone china cup and took a sip. He had felt a strange sensation last night, and it wasn't until he returned to his dormitory that he figured out the source of that strange feeling.
The professor mentioned in class that the transformation of a hybrid into Deadpool is a gradual process of degeneration, but the dangerous hybrid from last night clearly defied this common sense.
"Why did that dangerous hybrid suddenly mutate into Deadpool? The speed at which the dragon blood is corroding him is too fast. It feels like..." Cheng Sui pondered, "...like someone controlled his bloodline, causing him to suddenly fall into the abyss forever."
Angers snapped his fingers and said smugly, "As expected of our A-level student, your observation skills are exceptionally sharp. Cheng Sui, have you ever ridden a roller coaster?"
Cheng Sui shook his head: "I'm afraid of heights, and roller coasters give me a very low sense of security. I'm always afraid that it will suddenly derail."
Angers raised his hands, placing one palm on top of the other.
"If the sky is like ordinary people and the ground is like Deadpool, then we hybrids are in between. The closer we are to the ground, the closer we are to losing control."
"We found a unique drug in the body of the Deadpool you killed. For hybrids, it's like riding a volcano," Angers said. "At first, it slowly rises into the sky, giving the injector the illusion that their bloodline is gradually stabilizing. But when it reaches a certain point, they will plummet rapidly from the highest point, like riding a roller coaster, and eventually fall into the form of Deadpool."
Angers took a sip of tea and said slowly, "When we spotted the target, he was already descending, and you kicked him hard from behind, sending him crashing to the ground and smashing him to pieces."
"Then why did he inject this drug? To stabilize his bloodline?" Cheng asked.
"Perhaps. For dangerous hybrids, discovering that their human consciousness is gradually being invaded by the dragon's consciousness is terrifying. The goal of this mission is to use this drug as a lifeline," Angers took out scones from the cabinet, placed them on a bone china plate, and handed them to Cheng Sui. "This is the first time we have discovered this drug. We don't know how many dangerous hybrids around the world have been injected with it."
Cheng Sui picked up a scone and took a bite, then became even more puzzled: "Then what was the inventor of this reagent for? If it was just to manipulate people's hearts and make trouble for others, then that's a bit too naive."
Angers shook his head: "It's only been about a day since we discovered the reagent, which is too short of time for us. We haven't figured out the specific motive yet, but Norma has already deciphered that the reagent was shipped from Japan."
"Japan..." Cheng Sui rubbed his chin, his mind filled with images of anime, maid cafes, the Shinkansen bullet train, and high school girls in JK uniforms walking together. His impression of Japan was limited to this.
"That's right, Japan. There, a group of hybrids who live almost independently of the hybrid world gather. They are actually the Japanese branch of Kassel College, but they call themselves the Snake Clan. They control the entire Japanese underworld and are the undisputed kings of the underworld."
"So what does this have to do with me? I'm just a student worrying about graduating." Cheng Sui shrugged.
"They've been making more and more moves in recent years, like hyenas lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce. They may not have done the reagent incident themselves, but it's definitely related to them."
Angers didn't keep them in suspense and said directly, "It's probably because the headquarters has rarely produced truly amazing geniuses in recent years, so they've become increasingly audacious, like disobedient children. Therefore, I hope you can represent the headquarters to go to the Japanese branch after you return from Egypt."
"I refuse." Cheng Sui said without hesitation. "Caesar and Chu Zihang are also good candidates. Why does it have to be me? I'm a student, not an illegal worker. I won't do business without capital. What does world peace have to do with me?"
Angers smiled, not annoyed by Cheng Sui's words; on the contrary, he felt that this made it seem more sincere.
No one wants to give for nothing. Cheng Sui's directness actually made the conversation much easier, which was better than those who were hypocritical.
"I remember you took my Dragon Genealogy course, and I promised you a perfect score."
Cheng Sui pouted: "No way, no way. I don't care about GPA. As long as I don't fail, that's fine. Perfect grades are useless to me."
As if anticipating Cheng Sui's words, Angers smiled and took an envelope from his desk drawer, placing it on the desk and gently pushing it toward Cheng Sui.
"The principal's scholarship has been increased a little bit more, partly out of personal preference."
Cheng Sui took the envelope and looked at Angers suspiciously. He had heard of the Principal's Scholarship, which many top students in the college had received, but it was mostly for encouragement, and he had never heard of anyone getting rich from it.
Cheng Sui opened the envelope and glanced at it, his breath catching in his throat when he saw the amount of the scholarship.
Stuffing the envelope into his clothes, Cheng Sui solemnly grasped Angers's old, rough hand: "As a student of Kassel in this new era, I absolutely cannot allow this to happen. Leave the matter of Japan to me."
