Chapter 33 Turn Over
"Wow, a $100,000 scholarship! Senior Cheng, you're set for life!"
In the family restaurant, Nono opened the envelope that Angers handed to Cheng Sui. Inside was the document for the Principal's Scholarship, and Cheng Sui's name was signed on it.
Today, Professor Mans returned to Chicago from the Three Gorges Dam. As soon as he arrived at the school, he called them to invite them out for dinner, hoping they could get to know each other. But right now, it seemed like they all knew each other quite well, and Professor Mans had the illusion that he was an outsider.
"Come on, in the eyes of a rich kid like you, $100,000 is just pocket money. It can't even buy one wheel of a Bugatti Veyron." Cheng's attendant took back the envelope from Nuonuo and said irritably.
"Actually, buying a wheel is more than enough." Nono forked a piece of grilled meat. "If I had known that Senior Cheng Sui had won so many scholarships, I would have booked a more luxurious place to eat, at least a Michelin three-star restaurant."
Previously, in order to take care of Cheng Sui, everyone unanimously chose a relatively affordable family restaurant.
Professor Mans chuckled: "Isn't it fine now? Eating together is more fun. But Cheng Sui's scholarship is probably the highest ever awarded by Kassel College. I remember the full President's Scholarship was only $36,000. Yours is almost three times that. It seems the President's 'little bit of selfishness' has a lot to it."
"So what's the price?" Ye Sheng grabbed a glass, took a swig of beer, and cheered heartily, "The price is to take down the Japanese. As a family member of the victim, what do you have to say, Aki Shuto?"
Sake Aki rolled her eyes at Ye Sheng, but the slight upturn of her lips betrayed her inner state.
Professor Mans coughed lightly: "But be careful when you go to Japan with Cheng. I heard that the mixed-race people there are a bunch of lunatics. Sixty years ago, they were defeated by the principal alone, so they are extremely sensitive and have low self-esteem. They are eager to prove themselves and that they lost to only the principal and not to the European mixed-race people."
As if remembering something, Shuto Aki added, "Every year, the headquarters exchanges students with the Japanese branch. When I was at the Japanese branch, the people there would try every means to humiliate the people from the headquarters when they saw that it was someone from the headquarters."
"It looks like an Akita Inu that's been stressed out and will bite anyone it sees," Nono commented sarcastically from the side.
"Looks like Junior Brother is going to become a 'dog-beating hero' this time," Ye Sheng said lazily.
"Don't give me random nicknames. Shouldn't we be discussing our trip to Egypt right now? Even the invincible Jotaro made preparations before going to Egypt. We can't just go like this."
Professor Mans also took a sip of beer. He was German and had almost no resistance to beer: "You don't need to worry about these things. Your senior brother Ye Sheng and senior sister Ya Ji went to Egypt to conduct the pilot project a long time ago. Moreover, there is a contact person in Egypt. He will make all the arrangements. You just need to save and copy the data they transmit on the shore."
Cheng Sui nodded, then asked with some curiosity, "Professor, you said that the principal landed in Japan alone sixty years ago and defeated the entire mixed-race community in Japan. How come I've never heard the principal mention this before?"
"Only the elderly live in the past and constantly reminisce about what happened. Although the principal is over a hundred years old, he still looks forward. He is the kind of person who would not show off his past glories like a medal."
Professor Mans took a sip of beer to moisten his throat and slowly began to recount his past. Occasionally, Shudeya would thoughtfully add a few words, making the story more vivid.
Time passed slowly as Professor Mans narrated. The people in the family restaurant listened to his story and unconsciously moved closer to him, just like children sitting together listening to their elders tell stories.
After dinner, Ye Sheng suggested going to a bar for a drink. Professor Mans and Nono immediately agreed, while Cheng Sui was indifferent.
Aki wasn't really keen on going, but she couldn't resist Nono's insistence, and finally just whispered, "Don't get drunk, it'll be a hassle."
……
I've been in this world for three years.
To be honest, Cheng Sui always felt that he didn't belong to this world.
Although he didn't have many friends in his previous life, Cheng Sui would occasionally think back to when he lived in the dormitory at night in high school, where eight people in one dormitory would squeeze onto one bed to play Three Kingdoms Kill.
In the game "Three Kingdoms Kill," there's a "flip" mechanic. Once a character card is flipped over, the sword fights and intrigues of that turn become irrelevant to you.
Cheng often felt as if he had been "turned over." For the past three years, the ups and downs and the hustle and bustle of Kassel College seemed to be separated by an invisible barrier, having nothing to do with him.
Looking at Ye Sheng and Mans, who were supporting each other and swaying from drinking, and Nono, who was pulling Aki to take selfies further ahead, she saw them.
Ye Sheng and Mans were arm in arm, staggering from drunkenness. Professor Mans' hat was askew behind his head, and Ye Sheng kept laughing, though no one knew what he was laughing at.
Nono whispered something in Aki's ear, and Aki's fair cheeks instantly turned red. She glanced at Ye Sheng quickly and timidly, then hurriedly turned back, as if afraid of being discovered.
Nono's face, flushed from the alcohol, wore a sly smile as her slender fingers playfully poked Aki's waist, making the other girl dodge repeatedly.
Cheng Sui followed behind, watching this scene, and a smile unconsciously crept onto his lips.
Only now does he feel a sense of reality, that he is truly a person in this world, and not just a passerby.
If Cheng Sui were also a general card in the Three Kingdoms Kill game, then this long three-year "flipped" state would finally be over.
The walk from the bar to the station was short, and the dim streetlights cast long, swaying shadows of the five people along the quiet night road. A cool, damp breeze swept by, and the hazy lights of the station in the distance resembled gentle fireflies.
Nuonuo ran back, holding her phone, and shoved the screen in front of Cheng Sui's eyes: "Look, you're in the picture, senior!"
In the photo, Nono occupies most of the lower right corner, smiling mischievously and boldly. Next to her, Shudeyaki turns slightly to the side, shyly lowering her head, a few strands of hair falling down to cover her flushed cheeks.
A little later, Ye Sheng and Professor Mans appeared, their arms around each other's shoulders. Ye Sheng grinned, seemingly still enjoying the wine, but his gaze never seemed to leave Aki.
At the very edge of the photo, in a slightly darker position, is Cheng Sui following behind. His figure is somewhat blurry, but you can vaguely see his smile.
