Chapter 35 A Two-Hit Wonder Plan

"I can't believe it. You're an old fogey from seventy years ago, and you're actually questioning a top student from MIT."

Hearing Tony's displeased response through the earpiece, Steve quickly said, "No, it's just that your equipment hasn't been working at all so far."

He looked at the instrument in his hand, a scanning device about the size of a mobile phone, with wavy lines constantly sweeping across the screen, like a small radar system.

The instructions state that this device can lock the energy left over from any laser cannon firing, even if it was fired just two days ago.

But after they walked around, the instrument didn't transmit any signal at all.

This made Steve pat the instrument, wondering if it was broken.

"Don't worry, as long as someone activates that laser cannon within a ten-kilometer radius, the detector will immediately locate and track them."

Back in his Los Angeles villa, Tony was feeling a bit sleepy. "Until the laser cannon is activated, you can just wander around the city."

"Couldn't you have increased the monitoring range?"

Natasha couldn't help but complain that the detection range of only ten kilometers forced them to wander around the city aimlessly in the middle of the night with the device.

The chaotic night in Santa Fe City made her feel nauseous.

"Madam, that gun is a cutting-edge weapon of the Chitauri, protected by strict protocols. I've done a great job."

"Besides, I'm on vacation right now, and I could have had a wonderful night, but Nick Fury called me in the middle of the night while I was on vacation, just to ask for a detector."

Steve quickly hung up the call before Tony could continue complaining.

He looked at the testing device, about the size of a cell phone, in his hand with a helpless expression. He was so tired of hearing Tony's complaints that he was practically sick of them.

Although it was just a few words, the information conveyed helped him understand why Steve and Natasha were in Santa Fe.

It seems that S.H.I.E.L.D. attaches great importance to that laser gun, even sending two Avengers personally to carry out tasks such as monitoring it.

Fury probably hoped that once the weapon was locked, Steve and Natasha could take the gun back immediately.

"It seems that those guys haven't activated that weapon yet."

"It seems it's time to leave."

He knew that since S.H.I.E.L.D. had tracked down Santa Fe City, it was only a matter of time before they locked onto the Lawrence family.

The confrontation between the Lawrence family and S.H.I.E.L.D. is inevitable.

The outcome was predictable: the Lawrence family would be wiped out by S.H.I.E.L.D., after all, it was just a family organization based in Santa Fe, while S.H.I.E.L.D. was a behemoth that could influence the entire world.

He had to leave quickly before they escalated into a bigger conflict, to avoid getting caught up in the turmoil.

As Logan stomped out the nearly burnt-out cigarette butt and was about to turn and leave, he suddenly thought of the abandoned factory in the suburbs.

What he was certain of was that the Lawrence family had been planting spies near the factory, constantly monitoring the professor and Caliban.

If he wanted to leave, he had to deal with this problem beforehand; otherwise, before he even left the city, the Lawrence family would probably try to intercept him relentlessly.

The involvement of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't seem to be entirely bad for him. It could provoke a conflict between the two sides, allowing the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. to deal with the Lawrence family, while he could take the opportunity to escape unscathed...

He bought several bottles of Coke and tossed one to Logan.

Logan nodded, took the cola, temporarily abandoned his thoughts, concealed the glint in his eyes, and said in a deep voice, "Let's go."

At this point, Samuel also filled up the car with gas.

The group, smoking and drinking cola, went straight back to the Lawrence family's logistics warehouse.

Although it was late at night and the streets were deserted, the Lawrence family's logistics warehouse was still brightly lit.

However, there were no workers or trucks in sight, so the lights were obviously left on for them.

After parking the car in the garage, the group got out.

With that, Donald reached out and patted Logan on the shoulder before turning to leave.

But after taking only a few steps, he turned back and added with a smile, "By the way, about Gabriela, I sincerely hope you won't let a fan down. If you have any news about her, please let me know, okay?"

I hope that that woman and child won't create any distance between us.

After saying that, Donald walked out of the garage without looking back.

Logan stared at his retreating figure, remaining silent.

The conversation between the two left Josh and Samuel completely bewildered. Not knowing much about the situation, they felt as if the two were speaking in secret.

Just then, Samuel's phone beeped with a text message. He glanced at it, then turned to Logan and Josh and said, "Let's go. That nigger wants us to come over. He's waiting for us in his office."
