Chapter 120 Guandi Temple
The black Chevrolet Suburban roared like a behemoth as it charged into the steel torrent of Los Angeles. In the driver's seat, Qingyin's eyes were filled with barely suppressed excitement, and a wild, unrestrained smile played on her lips.
"Hold on tight, you two!"
Before he finished speaking, the engine roared even louder, and the needle on the instrument panel shot up instantly!
As Qin Jin and Alessa were both pushed back against the chairs by the force of the push, the Sabban had already broken through the limits of the city roads and began to speed through.
"Qingyin, you...you can't be serious, can you?" Qin Jin reminded her helplessly, "We're still in the city."
"Don't worry~" Qingyin chuckled, weaving effortlessly through the traffic like a top driver. Every lane change was precise, as if measured, with a smooth and pleasing flow.
"This speed is nothing. I've been holding it in for so long, I need to get some fresh air!"
Qin Jin had to admit that Qingyin's driving skills far surpassed his own, even surpassing many professional drivers.
Once on the wide California Highway 1, Qingyin was completely free to roam.
The roar of the engine drowned out the sound of the Pacific Ocean, and the massive vehicle carved a sharp line along the winding coastal highway, like a lightning bolt tearing through the darkness, speeding north toward San Francisco.
The 12-hour drive, as expected, was compressed into less than 9 hours thanks to Qingyin's insane driving.
As the iconic Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco began to emerge faintly in the darkness at 3 a.m., Qin Jin gained a more direct understanding of this vixen—
Beneath that alluring exterior lies a heart surging with passion!
Once inside the city, Qingyin slowed down slightly and drove directly into the quiet Chinatown. The air was filled with the lingering smells of cooking oil and spices, mixed with the damp sea breeze, creating a slightly sticky feeling.
The Guandi Temple was located at the end of a relatively quiet street. Qingyin parked the car far away, and the three of them got out. However, Qin Jin and Qingyin stopped almost at the same time.
In Qin Jin and Qing Yin's eyes, the entire Guandi Temple was not pitch black, but rather shrouded in a faint yet constantly shifting halo of light.
The halo was neither dazzling nor eye-catching, but it carried a certain awe-inspiring and inviolable majesty, especially in the direction of the main hall, where a heavy and imposing aura of killing intent constantly emanated.
"This is troublesome!" Qin Jin frowned. "The Guan Yu statue enshrined here has already acquired divine power."
"This is definitely not a statue that's only two or three hundred years old," Qingyin's smile faded. She had a natural fear of this pure, righteous energy.
"Did they hire them from somewhere in China? We can't afford to mess with them!"
Qin Jin and Qing Yin realized almost simultaneously that their original plan was no longer feasible.
With this statue protecting them, if they dared to break in, they would inevitably suffer a backlash from the god's power, with unimaginable consequences. Their plan to go in and help people retrieve the books was completely thwarted.
"I have a little skill."
Aresa pulled out a bottle and handed it to Qin Jin. It was the bottle of nitroglycerin that she hadn't had a chance to use yet. The meaning was clear:
Smash it!
"No!" Qin Jin shook his head, rejecting her suggestion.
"If we make too much noise, the handwritten copy will be even harder to find if it gets buried in the rubble. Also," he paused, then earnestly told Alessa:
"This isn't just a trivial skill; it's a strategy or a method. I'll explain it to you in detail later..."
"How about I control two people, go in, and kidnap the person you need?" Qingyin suggested.
"He's just an old temple keeper, should be fine, right?"
Qin Jin pondered for a moment, then shook his head, but immediately added:
"Sending someone to kidnap him is probably impossible, but what you said about finding a few people..."
His gaze drifted into the distance. He remembered investigating during his last visit to San Francisco; the Tong family's Wusheng Hall seemed to have some friction with the forces in the two neighboring blocks, and they had never really dealt with each other.
This seems like something we could take advantage of.
A dozen minutes later, the Chevrolet drove out of Chinatown and parked two blocks away in a place filled with graffiti, trash, and cheap neon signs.
This area belongs to another African American gang, which has a long history of conflict and resentment with the Tang family. They mainly concentrate in this area.
Qin Jin and Alessa stayed in the car, while Qingyin got out alone and walked towards a group of guys wearing leather jackets, half-lying on motorcycles, smoking tobacco.
Ao-on walked around for a bit, and those guys immediately jumped up, started their motorcycles, and sped towards the bar at the end of the street. Ao-on sat on the back of one of the guys' motorcycles and waved in the direction of Saboban.
Qin Jin could only move to the driver's seat, start the engine, and then follow.
When he arrived, a large group of people rushed out of the club.
A black man in a striped suit, smoking a cigar and wearing a thick gold chain, brandished a pistol and shouted orders to his men:
"Wushengtang is incredibly audacious! They actually dare to distribute goods in our neighborhood! Since they know where the goods are hidden, then they're ours...everyone! Grab your weapons! Come with me to take the goods away..."
Under Qingyin's illusionary manipulation, forty or fifty gang members, led by their leader, jumped onto motorcycles or climbed into dilapidated muscle cars, heading menacingly towards the Guandi Temple!
At this moment, Qingyin emerged from a group of women dressed in bright colors, who were blowing kisses, shouting, and excitedly heading in the direction the motorcycle had left. She got on the motorcycle, and Qin Jin naturally gave up the driver's seat.
"Alright, let's go around to the back," Qingyin said as she started the car.
"If these people go in and destroy the idols, or do anything blasphemous, we'll go in from the back and take the things."
With a stomp of the accelerator, the massive Chevrolet, like a cheetah in the dark, nimbly darted into the alley and quickly circled behind the Guandi Temple.
When they quietly stopped on the small street just a wall away from the Guandi Temple, the temple was already bustling with noise all day long.
"Bang! Boom—"
"Who is it...?"
"Fire! Fire—!"
Chaos erupted! This was no ordinary temple; intense gunfire, shouts, and screams shattered the tranquility of Chinatown at night.
Qin Jin and his two companions waited silently in the shadows, ready to scale the wall and slip inside as soon as the divine light dissipated...
But! Plans never keep up with changes!
Just as the gunshots gradually moved to the center of the Guandi Temple, an inconspicuous side door in the back wall was pushed open, and two shirtless young men with guns came out first. They looked around, then turned back and helped someone out from inside.
The newcomer was wearing an old-fashioned Tang suit undershirt, had gray hair, and was leaning on a cane. Needless to say, this was the temple keeper, Tong Kaihu, who was clearly being protected and trying to escape.
Qin Jin had just rushed out of the shadows and was spotted by the young man before he could even speak.
"Who goes there? Stop right there!"
Snap! Snap! Snap!
Before she could even speak, Alessa's gun went off—not her usual Gru Red Hawk, but another backup weapon for killing!
The movements were as fluid as breathing! Drawing the gun, aiming, firing—all in one smooth motion!
The two young members of the Tong family each suddenly had a terrifying blood hole between their eyebrows!
Before the astonishment on their faces could even turn into fear, their bodies went limp as if their bones had been removed, and the guns in their hands clattered to the ground.
"What kind of bird people are you?!"
Tong Kaihu was filled with shock and rage. Looking at his subordinate who had died instantly, his old face twisted as he roared:
"I'll give you money! How much? Name your price! Let me go, and I promise I won't cause you any trouble..."
Qingyin quickly approached Tong Kaihu, waved her hand in front of him, and Tong Kaihu immediately slumped down, limp and powerless. She then picked him up with one hand, and Qin Jin took him and stuffed him into the trunk.
"Let's go! Let's find another place to conduct the trial."
The car sped through the streets of San Francisco in the early morning. After about two or three blocks, it stopped at a random alley and the person was pulled out and woken up.
