American Zombie Detective

Chapter 31 Glutinous Rice for Removing Corpse Poison

When Constantin and the detectives returned, Qin Jin checked each of their wounds. Most of the officers had scrapes and bruises from falls, but there were exceptions—

Detective Willie from the police department and Detective Herman from Team One both have scratch marks on their bodies, on their shoulders and legs. The wounds are red and the tentacles are stiff, but they don't hurt when touched.

Qin Jin sternly told the two to take off their police uniforms, put on gloves, grabbed a large handful of glutinous rice, and applied it directly to the wound.

laugh--!

Black smoke rose, and the two cried out in pain. Qin Jin, however, kept the glutinous rice tightly covered on the surface. After a while, he took it off, and the glutinous rice had turned black.

Without hesitation, he switched to another one and continued to cover it.

This strange sight sent chills down the spines of the officers who had participated in the battle. Team leader Bruce approached and asked in a tone befitting one of their own:

"Qin, what... what's going on?"

"Corpse poison!" Qin Jin replied deliberately, his voice loud enough for those around him to hear clearly.

"The claws and teeth of the zombies are covered in corpse poison. If the poison isn't removed, you'll turn into zombies too—think about it, are there any wounds on your bodies from being scratched? Show them to everyone!"

This caused quite a stir among the officers, who immediately began showing off their injuries, insisting that Qin Jin try using glutinous rice on them, regardless of their actual condition.

"Qin! The branch that scratched me was touched by a zombie. Could you please take a look?"

"Qin, my wound feels numb too, could it be infected with corpse poison...?"

"Qin! Help! Why does this wound look like two? Could it be from a bite?"

Qin Jin stared at the officer who claimed to have been bitten, somewhat taken aback: "Don't you have any idea whether you were bitten or not?"

"I...I'm a little confused..." the officer said with a mournful face. "Just give it a try!"

Qin Jin simply had the on-site forensic doctor help him by continuously using glutinous rice to draw out the poison from the two people, while he himself checked everyone else one by one.

At this moment, Qin Jin was like an angel in the eyes of the police detectives and Teams One and Four!

The examination results were good; only Willie and Herman at the beginning were confirmed to have scratches. Although some of the others were grabbed or thrown by the zombies, the bulletproof vests at the points where they were grabbed absorbed everything and protected them from injury.

The others breathed a sigh of relief, but Willie and Herman were covered in sweat. One reason was that removing the poison was indeed very painful, and the other was fear. After all, the thought of turning into a corpse alive was chilling.

After repeatedly pulling out more than a dozen handfuls of glutinous rice to clear the corpse poison from the wound, Qin Jin was still not satisfied and told them to remember three things:

First, take a bath in glutinous rice paste after you get back. Second, drink glutinous rice porridge. Third, keep moving around. As long as you don't turn into a zombie within three days, you're good to go.

The two of them immediately objected, looking at Qin Jin hesitantly, seemingly wanting to speak but not daring to. It was the group leader, Bruce, who was more decisive:

"Qin! Why don't you arrange this? They can stay at your house for a couple of days to...get rid of their drugs? I'll ask Shirley to help you?"

How can this be?

Staying at home, let alone anything else, the fact that they weren't eating would give them away. However, the corpse poison on these two couldn't be ignored either—

"My home is indeed not very convenient, I also have a younger sister, but, well, it can be like this..."

Qin Jin pointed to Constanze: "Stay at his house! Jack knows about these things too. I can come and check every day, and make sure everything is ready. Isn't that fine?"

Upon hearing Qin Jin's words, everyone turned their attention to Constanze, who passively accepted Qin Jin's proposal with an innocent yet helpless expression.

So the five of them set off back with a large bag of glutinous rice. On the way, Qin Jin bought a small grinder and an inflatable pool, and drove all the way to the Pan American Loft on South Broadway.

A group of people carrying their belongings took the elevator to Constanze's house.

Constanze's house is very large. Because it is on the top floor, it also has an attic. Qin Jin installed the inflatable pool in the bathroom, and then personally ground at least ten kilograms of glutinous rice, added water, and let Willie and Herman soak in it.

"Jack, Shelley, keep an eye on them!" With outsiders present, Qin Jin naturally addressed him by another name, Constantine:

"Today and tomorrow, besides sleeping, they can only do two things: soak glutinous rice in water and move around. They can't stop. And what they can eat is glutinous rice porridge..."

Constantin and Shelley nodded.

"Sleep should not exceed four hours. Set an alarm and get up at the designated time to soak for at least two hours before going back to sleep. The same goes for the water; change it immediately if it turns black, or at least once a day if it doesn't change. Grind at least five pounds of the mixture each time."

After giving his instructions, Qin Jin bid farewell to everyone and went home. At this time, he was unaware that he had been personally appointed by Director Edward to be the head of Group Two...

The next day, Qin Jin went to the Pan-American attic early in the morning to check on the two of them. They seemed to be doing well. After giving them some instructions, he left.

Instead of going to the police station, we took Alessa to the school for her interview.

As for other things like asking for leave and communicating with superiors, all of them were handled by Shirley.

When they arrived at the elementary school gate, Alessa got out of the car carrying a Frankenstein doll. Her gray-blue eyes were full of resistance, but Qin Jin still let her leave the doll in the car.

He had already checked last night. Not only were the Gru Red Eagles that had been taken out, but all the grenades were gone. Even the nitroglycerin that had been deliberately hidden away was not in its original place. It was obvious that it had returned to the doll's belly.

"It'll only be a short while, just a formality." Qin Jin lowered his voice, his tone leaving no room for argument:

"I successfully enrolled today, so I can ask for leave from now on."

Aresa pursed her pale lips and didn't say a word. She just angrily put the doll in the back row and patted it.

The atmosphere in the principal's office was fairly friendly.

Qin Jin's brand-new police badge from the Canyon Precinct's Homicide and Major Crimes Division, coupled with his calm and reliable demeanor, made the interview process exceptionally smooth. The principal was clearly satisfied with being able to accept a police officer's family member.

"Welcome, Alessa!" The principal greeted her with a beaming smile, pressing an internal phone button.

"Please have Ms. Kate take Officer Qin and Alessa to the third-grade classroom to familiarize them with the environment."

The office door was pushed open, and the female teacher who walked in instantly triggered an alarm on Qin Jin's "social radar".

Kate Morris, a teacher in her late thirties, is in good shape, but exudes a cold aura that keeps strangers at bay.

Her golden-brown hair was neatly pulled back, revealing a smooth but slightly harsh forehead.

A pair of frameless glasses perched on his nose, his eyes behind the lenses sharp and scrutinizing, carrying a weariness and alienation from long periods of solitude and controlling his students.

She wore a well-tailored but somber-colored suit, her lips pressed into a straight line, with almost no extra expression.

"Officer Qin, Alessa, this way please." Her voice was steady and polite, but devoid of any warmth.

The corridor to the classroom wasn't long, and Qin Jin tried to break the silence.

"Ms. Kate, my sister is a bit withdrawn. Please take good care of her and contact me if anything happens."

Kate's steps did not falter at all; her gaze remained straight ahead, and her tone was completely flat.

"Every child is unique, Officer Qin. Adapting to a new environment is part of growing up, and we will do our best to help. As for personality..."

She finally glanced at Qin Jin, and the look in her eyes made him feel like he was being scanned by an X-ray:

"The purpose of coming to our school is to let them participate in group activities, right? If they are always exceptions, they might as well go to a special school."

Having met with a lukewarm response, Qin Jin clicked his tongue inwardly. This woman seemed to be a typical case of stubbornness stemming from sexual incompatibility. This matter had to be resolved, otherwise, who knew what kind of trouble Alessa would cause…

When they arrived at the classroom, a group of curious little heads turned around in unison.

Teacher Kate asked Alessa to give a brief self-introduction. Encouraged by Qin Jin's gaze, Alessa only said a few words and that was it:

"I, Alessa Qin, don't mess with me if you don't want to die."

The atmosphere instantly became a little awkward. Teacher Kate looked at Alessa in surprise, then at Qin Jin. He could only laugh awkwardly and use the excuse that Alessa was deliberately being silly to brush the matter off.

After arranging the seats, Qin Jin took Alessa away. They would return for the formal class tomorrow, and he also wanted to go home and give her some final instructions. Meanwhile…

He has to find a way to get Kate on his mind, or things will get really complicated.

Sitting in the Dodge, Qin Jin looked at Alessa's still tense face, sighed, and took out a wad of US dollars, stuffing it into Alessa's pocket.

"Listen, my little ancestor," Qin Jin's voice carried a hint of helplessness and compromise:

"You did a fantastic job today, you didn't lose your temper on the spot, that's progress. This money is a reward, and also... um, a reserve fund."

He paused, carefully choosing his words:

"Bring your phone and iPad to school tomorrow. Play whatever you want. If you're really bored, just pretend to be sick and call me..." he emphasized.

"But remember this: under no circumstances should you touch anything! Especially don't take anything out of your doll!"

Alessa lowered her head, her fingers fiddling with the zipper of the doll, rustling and rattling.

The allure of money and electronic pacifiers did not seem to completely dispel her aversion to the impending life in the cage.

Qin Jin rubbed his temples, finally resorting to his trump card: "There's only a month until the long holiday, so..." He could only passively arrange his own plans:

"If you can get through a month peacefully, we'll go to San Francisco during the holidays and kidnap at least one of the people the paper bride wants, okay?"

This sentence has a magical power.

Aresa suddenly raised her head, her gray-blue eyes instantly brightening, the bloodthirsty excitement that had been forcibly suppressed resurfacing.

She nodded vigorously, and although her face was still tense, the oppressive aura that kept strangers at bay had mostly dissipated.
