My tamed beasts can't be demons.

Chapter 32 The Red-Tailed Fox (13, please continue reading!)

Zhou Lu arrived relatively early; there were only about ten people ahead of him.

He sat in the waiting area watching the live broadcast of the exam on the screen.

At the end of each month, the Explorers' Association publishes a list of Beastmasters who obtained Explorer's Certificates that month. Also published are the battle videos from the exams.

However, such official policy announcements generally do not attract much attention, and the number of views for these videos is not even a fraction of the number of views for a regular beast-taming competition.

This time, in the Grass-type special event, the Beastmasters will face a Tier 1 Red-tailed Fox.

Although both are first-tier, the red-tailed fox and the chipmunk are completely different concepts.

As one of the most popular fire-type spirit beasts today, the Red-tailed Fox is powerful and elegant. Even without learning other skills, its racial skill [Flame Dash] has already secured its place among the mainstream.

In addition, its appearance surpasses that of most spirit beasts, making it very popular among beast tamers.

The Red-Tailed Fox, which was chosen as the target of this battle, was a Tier 1 Level 15 spirit beast, belonging to the medium-strength spirit beasts that could be encountered in C-level secret realms.

In the growth calculation, levels 0 to 9 are ordinary creatures that have not yet transformed, levels 10 to 19 are first-tier spirit beasts in the transformation period, levels 20 to 49 are second-tier spirit beasts in the growth period, and level 50 is a third-tier spirit beast.

Generally speaking, the further you progress, the more levels you need to evolve.

Levels cannot be increased simply by piling up materials. If evolution and advancement test a beast tamer's ability to gather materials and information, then leveling up tests a beast tamer's ability to raise spirit pets.

Zhou Lu had just finished his exams and came here to take the Exploration Certificate exam. He hadn't had time to do a growth calculation for Hanabi yet, but he estimated that Hanabi's level was definitely not level 15.

As they were talking, a new round of exams began on the large screen.

The exam was held in a simulated secret realm. The elegant figure of the red-tailed fox swiftly moved through a forest of red leaves.

This red maple forest is a prime habitat for red-tailed foxes.

Red maple trees are rich in oils, and the falling maple leaves can expand the range and power of the Red-tailed Fox's fire skills.

The beast tamer has only one goal: to defeat this red-tailed fox.

Using a Grass-type Pokémon to battle Redtail Fox in its advantageous area is clearly unwise.

The beast tamer who was taking the test understood this principle, so he immediately took out a piece of dried meat to lure the red-tailed fox out of the Red Leaf Forest.

However, although there was no beast tamer present in the examination hall, the red-tailed fox was still a spirit pet, and this ordinary dried meat had limited appeal to it.

Unfortunately, to protect the safety of the examinees, the association couldn't possibly let a wild spirit beast in. All the spirit beasts used were contracted pets. Their owners would keep a close watch on the examination site and immediately recall their pets if any danger arose.

The beast tamer was clearly surprised that the red-tailed fox was unmoved by the dried meat, and immediately became anxious.

The red-tailed fox was known for its high speed, so he dared not let his spirit pet or himself attract its attention, and thus they were locked in a stalemate for a moment.

As the end of the exam drew near, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and have his spirit pet unleash [Vine Entanglement] to provoke the red-tailed fox.

But this is definitely not a wise move.

Red-tailed foxes are extremely sensitive to spiritual energy, especially fluctuations in grass-type power.

So, as soon as his spirit pet released its skill, the red-tailed fox easily burned the vines with flames and locked onto the beast tamer's location.

Oh no! We have to run!

It was too late when the thought crossed his mind; a red shadow flashed, and the red-tailed fox appeared on his face.

I failed the exam.

Looking at his senior's dejected expression, Zhou Lu pondered: The most crucial thing in this exam is actually how to attract the Red-tailed Fox's hatred.

While ensuring their own safety, lure the red-tailed fox to terrain that is advantageous to them.

One of the scenarios in the exam was a grassland with Grass-type buffs, but to be honest, in a Grass-type battle against a Fire-type, even with the terrain buffs, the double damage from the type advantage is not something a Tier 1 spirit beast can easily overcome.

Moreover, that grassland is quite a distance from the Red Leaf Forest, even exceeding the current maximum distance of the trailing stem of the Fireworks.

Zhou Lu didn't think that with the current speed of Huohua's actions, it would be possible for her to sometimes run to the grasslands after attracting the red-tailed fox.

This arena is prepared for high-speed grass-type spirit beasts.

The assessment process was very fast.

After all, those junior students who truly possess beast-taming talent or have privileged family backgrounds had already obtained their C-level exploration certificates last year.

Beastmaster is one of the few professions in this era that allows for upward social mobility, and for this very reason, it has become one of the most brutal professions.

Only true geniuses can carve out their own niche in the Beast Taming Academy through hard work, even without a privileged family background.

In two hours, apart from students who force their way through the exam by relying on the level advantage of their spirit pets, very few were able to pass.

Zhou Lu also noticed some problems.

They worked very hard, but their efforts were completely misguided.

Beastmaster battles, especially in the wild, aren't that rigid. Why are you all so fixated on that jerky? Did you buy it from the same shop?

Just as Zhou Lu was internally complaining, his number was called over the loudspeaker.

It was his turn.

"Hanabi, get ready to go on stage." Zhou Lu looked at Hanabi beside him.

Fireworks then climbed into Zhou Lu's arms:

(≧w≦)

Upon entering the preparation room, the staff at the door first gave Zhou Lu a document, which was related to safety.

"If you encounter any danger, don't force it. Press the wristband immediately." The staff member opened the door and instructed Zhou Lu, "Our beast tamer will recall the red-tailed fox as soon as possible."

"Understood." Zhou Lu nodded.

Behind the door was a dilapidated and collapsed building.

Standing at the spawn point and looking into the distance, not far from here is the Red Leaf Forest where the Red-tailed Fox lives.

Fireworks seemed very tense.

It has always been most afraid of fire, but now it has to face off against a fire-type spirit beast.

The vines kept inserting themselves into the flowerpot, bringing out a little transparent sap.

This is the sticky baby's mucus, which Hanabi specially squeezed from the sticky baby.

The sticky substance in the baby product is not only extremely sticky, but also has excellent fire-retardant properties.

Apply. Apply.

Hanabi used vines to coat her body with the slime, then stretched out a vine and patted Zhou Lu's leg.

Master, do you want it?

Looking at the sticky substance on the firework vines, Zhou Lu didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "No need. I don't want to become bald."

Fireworks have fluff that can resist some stickiness, but not yourself.

Seeing that its owner refused, Hanabi shook its leaves in disappointment.

"Alright, Hanabi." Zhou Lu pointed to the lake next to the Red Leaf Forest and said to Hanabi, "You go there and get ready, I'll go pull the monsters."

He paused, then pointed to the fireworks' vines and said, "Wrap a vine around my waist, and pull me back when I give the command."

As he spoke, he crouched down and walked towards the direction of the Red Leaf Forest.
