Chapter 232 Planning a New Attack
After the interrogation, Lynn walked out of the room, where Carter was waiting at the door.
"What did he say?" Carter asked.
"He told us everything." Lynn took a deep breath and handed the interrogation transcript to Carter. "Immediately notify all regional offices to stop the operations in Los Angeles and Chicago. We can't let his organization destroy anything else."
Cardi nodded, but couldn't help asking, "Lynn, do you think he really admitted his mistake?"
Lynn looked through the glass window of the interrogation room; Elliott inside looked tired and lonely. He shook his head: "Whether he admits his mistakes or not is no longer important. What's important is that his faith has crumbled, and we must repair the damage he caused."
With the order issued, the FBI began a full-scale crackdown on the remaining Rose Domination organization.
In the early morning, overcast skies hung over Manhattan's skyline. Lynn stood in the center of the FBI's Manhattan operations room, his gaze sharp and his tone steady. The electronic screen displayed a map of the Rose Organization's key strongholds, stretching from Manhattan to Los Angeles and then to Chicago; the numerous red dots across the country highlighted the organization's complexity and covert nature.
"This is our final blow," Lynn said, his voice filled with unwavering resolve. "The Rose Overlord has laid out all his plans. We must act swiftly to completely dismantle this organization and stop their planned attack."
Carter, standing to the side, added, "We've coordinated with FBI field offices and local law enforcement agencies across the country. The operations will proceed simultaneously. The Manhattan operation will be our responsibility; this is the core stronghold of the Rose Domination."
All the agents in the conference room nodded in agreement. They all understood that the success or failure of this operation was not only a matter of their duty, but also a matter of the safety of countless lives.
Meanwhile, Kate sat at the FBI's makeshift interview station, organizing the documents in her hands. As a journalist who had covered the entire operation, she was acutely aware of the historical significance of this battle.
Speaking into the recording equipment, she said, "The Rose Organization, a secret group that claims to fight for justice, has masked its so-called beliefs with killing and terror. Today, the FBI will launch a full-scale purge. This is not just an operation, but a defense of justice and order."
Kate looked up at the busy agents, a complex mix of emotions swirling within her. She knew that everything she had recorded would become an important window for people to understand the truth.
At noon sharp, the raid officially began. Lynn led his team out; their target was an abandoned factory in Manhattan's East Side, the last known stronghold of the Rose Organization in New York.
"Attention everyone, the factory may be teeming with traps and resistance fighters," Lynn ordered through his headset.
"Maintain formation and proceed with caution."
The team quickly surrounded the factory, and with the help of the technical team, they unlocked the factory's external defense system and entered the interior.
The factory reeked of chemicals, and the surrounding area was cluttered with equipment and supplies. Lynn led the way, his ears straining to catch every sound.
"There has been activity here," Carter said in a low voice, pointing to the fresh footprints on the ground.
They continued deeper and eventually found several armed men in the factory's central control room. They were clearly aware of the approaching force and were preparing to engage.
"FBI! Drop your weapons!" Lynn shouted.
However, the enemy showed no sign of backing down, and the first bullet quickly pierced the air. Lynn quickly led his men into cover, and a fierce firefight ensued in the confined space.
"Watch out! There's someone on the right!" Carter warned, and accurately shot and hit a member of the group that was trying to sneak up.
Lynn, observing from behind cover, saw the enemy leader attempting to operate a computer and immediately ordered: "Don't let them start any systems! Tech team, jam their equipment immediately!"
With the intervention of the technical team, the Rose Organization's communication and operational systems were forcibly cut off. Lynn seized the opportunity, leading his team in a strong attack and quickly subduing all the militants.
Kate stood outside the factory, her palms sweating from the distant gunfire and explosions. She watched as an FBI armored vehicle pulled up at the factory gate, and agents quickly led a suspect out.
"This is Inspector Lynn and his team, just finished their operation in the East Side of Manhattan," Kate said to the camera. "The Rose Organization's last stronghold in New York has been destroyed, but the battle is not yet over."
Her gaze settled on Lynn's figure. His face showed fatigue, but his eyes were full of determination.
Meanwhile, operations were also underway in Los Angeles and Chicago. Reports came from both police stations that all key members had been arrested and the large-scale attack had been completely thwarted.
Standing inside the command vehicle, listening to reports from various locations, Lynn finally showed a hint of relief on his face.
"The operation is 100% successful," Carter told him. "The Rose Dominion organization has been completely dismantled."
"Are there any unresolved issues?" Lynn asked.
Carter shook his head: "All major strongholds have been wiped out, and we have the members' rosters and plans. They are no longer capable of causing any trouble."
After the operation, Kate's reporting became a national focus. Her writing and images detailed the Rose Organization's atrocities, the cleanup operation, and the heroic actions of Lynn and his team.
In a live television interview, Kate said to the camera, "Today's victory belongs not only to the FBI, but also to everyone who fights for justice. The Rose Organization tried to cover up the truth with fear, but in the end, their faith was destroyed by their own violence. And all of this is the result of the tireless efforts of Inspector Lynn and his team."
After the operation, Lynn returned to his office, the window offering a view of Manhattan's dazzling nightscape. He sat at his desk, a copy of Kate's report in his hand, his gaze calm.
Carter walked in and said, "It's all finally over, Lynn. You can get some rest now."
Lynn smiled slightly, but did not reassure her: "Perhaps it's over, but organizations like the Rose Dominator will never completely disappear. As long as injustice and conflict exist, there will be people who try to resolve them in extreme ways."
"But you won today." Carter patted him on the shoulder.
Lynn nodded, looked out the window, and said softly, "Yes, we won today. And tomorrow, we will continue to protect this city."
On the streets of Manhattan at night, the streetlights illuminated the bustling city like daytime, but danger still lurked in some dimly lit corners. Kate, off work at the television station, walked wearily toward the taxi waiting nearby, her bag slung over her shoulder. She glanced at her phone to check the time, mentally calculating that she still had an article to revise when she got home.
"Kate Bennett." A chilling voice suddenly came from the darkness.
Kate looked up abruptly and saw two strange men, dressed in ordinary clothes, emerging from the shadows around the street corner.
But their eyes held a hint of malice. They approached step by step, blocking Kate's path.
"Who are you?" Kate asked, trying to remain calm, and took a step back.
"You've exposed Rose's secret," one of them said with a sneer. "You think you can just go home unscathed? Some people don't like your talkativeness."
Kate's heart skipped a beat. She realized these people were likely remnants of the Rose Organization; although their purge was over, some had always escaped. These individuals clearly harbored resentment towards her report.
"I advise you not to do anything reckless." Kate tried to keep her voice calm. "The FBI is monitoring every member of the Rose Organization, and anything you do now will expose you."
"The FBI?" the other man chuckled. "They can't catch us either. Today, we're just teaching you a lesson."
Before she could finish speaking, one of them suddenly lunged at Kate. She retreated in alarm, but stumbled and nearly fell. Just as she thought she had nowhere to run, a familiar, deep voice came from behind her.
"Let her go."
Lynn stepped out of a black SUV, a handgun in his hand, the muzzle pointed at the two men. His gaze was icy, his voice carrying an undeniable authority: "You have three seconds to choose between giving up—or I'll send you to the hospital, and then to jail."
The two men were clearly taken aback by the sudden appearance of someone, especially one who looked quite formidable. They hesitated for a moment, but one of them gritted his teeth and said defiantly, "Who are you? This is none of your business!"
"I'm FBI Inspector Lynn." Lynn's voice was even colder. "Whether this concerns me or not, what do you think?"
The men exchanged glances, clearly beginning to hesitate. They knew that Lynn's identity was not just a bluff.
Moreover, they have no advantage on this empty street.
"We'll be back!" one of them threatened menacingly, then the two turned and ran into the night, disappearing quickly.
Lynn put down her gun and quickly walked to Kate's side: "Are you alright?"
Kate took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down: "Thank goodness—thanks to you. What are you doing here?"
Lynn sighed and reached out to support her arm: "Your reporting these past few days has attracted too much attention."
Although the Rose Organization has been dismantled, some remnants are still targeting you. I'm worried they might harm you.
So I decided to pick you up from get off work myself.
Kate managed a weak smile: "It seems your concerns were valid. Thank you, Lynn."
Lynn escorted Kate into the SUV, and the car drove into the Manhattan night. Silence filled the car; Kate seemed still processing the near-miss, while Lynn's gaze remained fixed ahead, his expression cold and stern.
"I really didn't expect them to retaliate so quickly," Kate finally spoke, her voice tinged with anger and lingering fear. "I thought that with the capture of the Rose Lord, it would all be over."
“That’s the problem,” Lynn said in a low voice. “An organization like the Roses has never been run by one person. Their core has been destroyed, but the remnants are still active. They hate us, and they hate people like you who expose the truth about them even more.”
Kate nodded. "So you think they'll keep chasing me?"
"I won't give them the chance." Lynn's gaze was firm. "I will arrange for protection to ensure your personal safety. What happened today will not happen again."
Kate glanced at him sideways, her eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions: "Lynn, you've done enough. This is my job, and I don't want to back down because of danger."
Lynn smiled slightly, her tone gentle: "I know you won't back down, which is why I'm worried about you. You always carry the responsibility on your own, but this time you need me to share it with you."
Kate was momentarily touched by those words, but she quickly regained her composure and said softly, "Okay, but I hope this is only temporary protection. I don't want to live in a safe bubble every day."
Lynn nodded slightly: "Short-term, unless necessary."
As Lynn dropped Kate off at home, his phone suddenly vibrated. It was an urgent message from the tech department:
"Detective, while tracking the two suspects in tonight's attack on Kate, we uncovered a larger, clandestine network. Remnants of the Rose Organization may be joining forces with other extremists in an attempt to launch new operations."
Lynn frowned, his vigilance heightened once again. He looked at Kate, hesitated for a moment, and ultimately decided not to tell her.
"Goodnight, Kate," he said. "Remember to lock the door and contact me anytime if you need anything."
Kate nodded, watching Lynn's departing figure, a strange sense of security welling up inside her.
Upon returning to his office, Lynn immediately convened Carter and the technical team. A new network diagram appeared on the screen, showing that the nodes connected by lines indicated that remnants of the Rose Organization were making contact with other antisocial groups through an underground network.
"These people may be planning a new attack," Carter said in a low voice.
Lynn's gaze was icy: "We can't give them any breathing room. Notify all departments to increase surveillance and bring these people to justice."
The following day, Lynn finally had a rare moment to catch his breath. Just as he was organizing the case report, his phone suddenly vibrated; it was Kate calling.
"Kate?" Lynn answered the phone, her voice sounding relaxed.
"Lynn," Kate's voice sounded cheerful, "tomorrow's the weekend, and my parents have invited you over for dinner. I've already told them how much you've helped me, and they'd love to meet you."
Lynn paused, put down the documents in her hand, and hesitated slightly: "Meet your parents? Kate, I'm just doing my duty, isn't this a bit inappropriate?"
"Don't be modest," Kate said with a smile. "If it weren't for you, they might have lost their daughter long ago."
Don't worry, my parents are very easygoing. It's just a simple family meal, so there's no need to be nervous.
Lynn smiled helplessly: "Okay, then what do I need to bring?"
Kate thought for a moment: "My mom likes flowers, and my dad—well, he likes wine. Do whatever you like, they won't mind."
"Understood, I'll be there on time." Lynn agreed, but a hint of nervousness rose in his heart. He didn't often deal with family occasions like this, let alone Kate's parents.
In the evening, Lynn took some time to go to a high-end gift shop in Manhattan. He stood in front of the shelves, looking left and right, seemingly at a loss.
