Chapter 93 The Crown of Morda
Hughes's gaze lingered on the thick vines, each one as thick as a basin and extremely robust.
Layer upon layer, intertwined and woven into a massive, impenetrable net, completely blocking the way ahead. Sunlight could not squeeze through the gaps in the vines, and it was unclear how one could possibly get through.
Heleto, clutching his chest, stepped forward and slowly stuffed a seemingly ordinary leaf into the gaps in the vines, saying to them, "The man beside me is also an apprentice of Everfrost Spire; I vouch for him."
As soon as the words were spoken, the leaf turned into specks of green light that seeped into the vines. With a rumbling sound, the giant vines slowly writhed, peeling away from each other and giving way. The originally tightly intertwined parts gradually opened up with a gap.
The gap widened, revealing the dark town behind it. Heleto and Hughes entered the town one after the other, and then specks of green light appeared in front of them. These lights continued to gather and eventually turned into a leaf.
Hughes gently placed his hand under the leaves, and as if sensing his presence, the leaves gently fell into his palm. This should be the proof that he could re-enter the town.
"We need someone to vouch for us when we enter Blackwood Town, since the town's founder is a dark wizard wanted by the Council of Light," Heleto said, glancing at Hughes.
Hughes sighed inwardly at the wizard's audacity. If he was wanted by the Council of Light, he must have at least maliciously slaughtered an entire mortal kingdom. He would be blacklisted by various forces, yet he still dared to establish a power base right under the nose of the Everfrost Spire.
However, the seclusion here is indeed quite good, Hughes thought to himself. He subconsciously looked up at the sky and saw that the town was completely shrouded in a gray fog, which also emitted a dim light.
No wonder the surrounding light was always so hazy, like a cloudy day, all the way here.
Hughes observed the surrounding buildings. The low wooden houses were crammed together, their roofs covered with thick moss, and their wooden windows glowed with faint light, giving the whole place an indescribable sense of deathly stillness.
The road was paved with ordinary stone slabs, and a few withered wild grasses sprouted from the cracks in the stones and stood there. Most of the pedestrians on the road were first or second-class wizard apprentices, and a small number were third-class wizard apprentices. They were dressed simply, but each of them wore one or two pieces of witchcraft.
Hughes even saw wizard apprentices dressed in the robes of the Everfrost Spire, but both Hughes and Heleto wore masks beforehand and were not afraid of revealing their identities.
Hughes followed Heleto to a wooden house. This house wasn't completely crooked at all. There were some familiar potion-making materials planted around it, so it seemed that this healer was also a potion master.
What surprised Hughes even more was that the roof was not made of ordinary wooden planks, but rather the top of a tree, with branches stretching out to provide a natural shelter that seemed more sturdy than wooden planks.
As Hughes observed the treetops, Heleto pushed open the creaking wooden door and gestured for Hughes to enter.
"Stop staring at that Crown of Morda, old Thor won't give it to you," he joked to Hughes.
Hughes was startled upon hearing this. No wonder the tree looked so familiar. The Crown of Morda was an enchanted tree cultivated by the potion master Morda Fortanson. It would release a certain amount of sap every year, which could be used to extend the lifespan of medicinal herbs.
Almost all potion ingredients are more potent the older they are, so this sap is called Morda Dew by potion makers. Hughes guessed that this tree was probably under the care of that wandering wizard.
The two entered the house, where the air was filled with the scent of dried herbs and earth. Wooden shelves against the wall were filled with earthenware jars, most of which were labeled with basic medicinal herbs that Hughes recognized.
The cabin wasn't very big, especially with the trunk of the Crown of Morda standing in the center. A third-class wizard apprentice who looked quite old was sitting quietly beside the trunk, smoking a pipe. This must be the old Thor that Heleto had mentioned.
"Hey, old Thor, heal me quickly, I'm about to die," Heleto said as he approached old Thor.
Hughes approached, and it seemed that Heleto and the old apprentice in front of him had a good relationship. Heleto lit a small flame at his fingertips and rekindled the pipe that old Thor had already extinguished.
Old Thor took a deep drag on his pipe, then gently released it. Purple smoke billowed from both the pipe mouthpiece and his mouth, swirling in front of him before slowly dissipating into the air.
Old Thor slowly opened his eyes, his green pupils peering through the smoke at Hughes, and asked, "Who is this?"
Heleto quickly replied, "This is Hughes Craig, also an apprentice at Everfrost Spire. He's a genius potion master."
Hearing that Hughes had a good talent for alchemy, old Told glanced at Hughes and then said to Heleto, "Lie down."
As soon as he finished speaking, the ground behind Herto, where there were no wooden planks, suddenly made a soft "crackling" sound. Several vines covered with damp soil burst out, and the emerald green vines intertwined and entwined on the ground, instantly forming a vine bed.
Heleto turned and lay down on the rattan bed. Old Thor slowly got up and came to the rattan bed. A vine stretched out from the bed and caught the pipe in his mouth.
Old Thor slowly raised his withered left hand, and a warm green light shone from his palm. His left hand, carrying the green light, slowly swept over Heleto's entire body, as if checking his injuries.
"They've entered the Necropolis?" Old Thor frowned slightly and asked in confusion.
"Well, we attacked a frostskin dwarf squad, but we didn't expect their captain to be a necromancer apprentice. They were afraid they wouldn't be able to hold out, so they came to find you nearby," Heleto replied calmly.
After the examination, old Thor raised his right hand and placed it over Heleto's most severely injured chest. Immediately afterward, a holy golden light shone from his palm, covering the entire wound.
Under the golden light, wisps of black smoke rose from around the wound on Heleto's chest, and a putrid smell began to fill the air.
After the necromantic energy on the wound was eliminated, the flesh on both sides began to slowly wriggle and grow pink buds. Soon the wound healed and new white flesh grew.
Old Thor then used the same method to heal all of Heleto's injuries. After a short while, Old Thor withdrew his hand, and Heleto quickly got up. Now he could move his limbs freely, as if his previous disheveled state had never happened.
"Your turn," old Thor said, looking at Hughes.
Hughes walked over and lay down on the rattan bed. After the green light swept over him, old Thor covered Hughes's wound with golden light. Hughes felt a warm sensation in his wound. His injury was more serious than Heleto's. The treatment lasted for quite a while.
