Chapter 179 They're a match made in heaven

Fury could even read the destination of every single byte.

Washington, Berlin, Madrid...

He is waiting.

Patiently wait for Garrett to finish sending each word.

This is exactly what he wanted.

Let fear spread within Hydra, get them moving, get them connected, get them exposed.

"Are you done talking?"

Two minutes later, Fury put down his glass.

Garrett's wrist stopped trembling. The message had been sent.

He breathed a sigh of relief, a victor's smile spreading across his face.

"That's all."

Garrett shrugged, looking like a dead pig that doesn't care about boiling water.

"Now, you can let that alien bastard kill me. But I assure you, your alien masters will soon discover that Earth isn't so easy to swallow."

"You're wrong about two things, John."

Fury slowly walked toward Garrett.

The temperature in the air began to rise with his footsteps.

"First, I have no master."

"second……"

Fury stopped in front of Garrett and bent down.

His skin began to peel away, and flames burst forth from his skull.

Fury's empty eye sockets seemed to conceal an entire hell.

"...I don't need aliens to kill you."

"...Look me in the eyes!!"

Fury let out a low growl.

The voice sounded like that of a judge from hell.

Garrett's expression froze; he saw countless faces.

Those he killed, those agents he betrayed, those innocent people who died on his orders.

"What...what is this...?"

Garrett tried to close his eyes, but his eyelids seemed to be forced open by an invisible force, forcing him to look directly at the flame.

"Aaaaaaahh ...

A heart-wrenching scream echoed inside the room.

Every sin he committed in the past transformed into the purest form of pain, which retaliated against him.

As his pupils turned to charcoal, he collapsed lifelessly to the ground.

Fury straightened up, the flames on his head gradually died down, and he returned to the appearance of a white old man.

He straightened his collar and turned to ask the Skrull.

"Is it all done?"

"All captured, sir."

The Skrulls looked at the strangely dead man on the ground with a sense of awe.

"Our equipment has tracked the refraction paths of all signals."

"The signal was just distributed to 37 receivers around the world."

The Skrulls activated the holographic projection, which displayed a world map with thirty-seven red dots lit up.

"very good."

Fury looked at the red dots and laughed.

"Organize the coordinates."

"Since I am the last avenger..."

He pulled a photo out of his pocket; it was a group photo taken on the day the Avengers were formed.

"...Then I have to do what an Avenger should do."

……

Airbus.

The atmosphere on the plane has become quite tense ever since Nick Fury was declared a globally wanted fugitive.

Coulson sat there, flipping through various reports and so-called exposés about Nick Fury, his brow furrowed.

"I don't believe it... I don't believe Director Fury is Hydra. Nor do I believe he's the mastermind behind that 'Secret Warrior' program."

“Indeed.” Melinda May crossed her arms and leaned against the wall. “I’ve known Fury for many years. He can hide things, he can lie, but he won’t trade children. Especially not to Hydra.”

"The evidence is conclusive, Mei."

Simmons pointed excitedly at the photos on the screen, "That's Fury's signature, that's the S.H.I.E.L.D.'s encrypted seal. And those kids... we all saw it, they're suffering!"

"Evidence can be fabricated," Coulson said in a deep voice. "Especially now that the S.H.I.E.L.D. system has been infiltrated by Hydra. Hydra can throw any dirty water on Fury's head."

"So we're just going to blindly trust a 'former' director who's wanted globally?"

Fitz stood firmly beside Simmons. "Sir, the current situation is that S.H.I.E.L.D. has collapsed. Command is now in Rumlow's hands; he is currently the highest-ranking officer in S.H.I.E.L.D."

"Rumlow?" Coulson sneered. "That henchman who only follows orders? Letting him lead S.H.I.E.L.D. is a joke."

"But he's legal," Skye said, her hand unconsciously stroking the watch on her wrist.

"Coulson, we are agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We swear allegiance to this organization, to the duty to protect the world, not to Nick Fury personally."

Skye looked at Coulson, her eyes displaying a calmness beyond her years. "If Fury is truly innocent, why doesn't he come forward and explain? Why is he hiding?"

"He's waiting for his chance," Coulson argued. "We need to find him and clear his name. Only he can lead S.H.I.E.L.D."

“I don’t think so,” Grant Ward interjected. “I think Skye is right. We should carry out the mission Commander Rumlow assigned us first. That obelisk is Item 084, and if it’s not controlled, it could cause a major disaster.”

The two sides are deadlocked.

Despite their disagreements, they were, after all, comrades who had gone through thick and thin together.

Everyone restrained their emotions and prevented the argument from escalating into a fight.

"Buzz—"

Just then, Ward's cell phone vibrated in his pocket.

That's a special vibration frequency.

His eyes flickered slightly, and he stood up as if nothing had happened.

"I'm going to the restroom."

Ward smiled and nodded to everyone, then turned and walked towards the back of the cabin.

With his departure, the debate temporarily came to an end.

Simmons sighed, sat down next to Skye, and tried to talk about something else to ease the tension.

"Hey, Skye," Simmons said, his eyes gleaming with gossip, "didn't you notice? Walter was the one who was taking your side the whole time."

"Huh?" Skye paused for a moment. "Really? He was just stating the facts."

"Come on, his eyes are practically glued to you." Simmons winked. "I bet he has special feelings for you."

"Stop talking nonsense, Simmons."

Skye gave an awkward laugh and quickly waved her hand in denial.

"I really don't have any feelings for him. Ward is my supervisor. I feel like he's... well, like a strict older brother?"

"Really?" Simmons was a little skeptical. "But last time during the mission, he risked his life to save you."

"He even jumped off the plane to save you before, so why don't you say he likes you?"

"and……"

Skye turned her head to look at the clouds outside the porthole. Her fingers gently caressed the watch face on her wrist.

Those deep blue eyes, even in the most critical moments, possess a reassuring power.

"...No matter where you are, as long as you press this button...I will come and take you home."

"I have to find the answer quickly..." Skye thought to herself, "As long as I find the answer... I'll go back to him."

"Yes, of course it's for work. After all, he's my 'boss'," Skye told herself, but the sweet smile that unconsciously appeared on her face betrayed her girlish heart.

"And what?" Simmons asked curiously.

"It's nothing."

Skye snapped out of her daze and casually brushed her hair aside.

"I just think he's a better match for Mei. Look at them, neither of them talks much, and they both have serious faces when they fight. They're a match made in heaven."
