Become a Homelander and a Marvel superstar
Chapter 19 You Now Have Two Choices
The headquarters of the Water Tower.
The marble floor was as smooth as a mirror, and the air was filled with expensive fragrances and the scent of "success".
This place made Jessica Jones very uncomfortable.
She was wearing her ever-present black leather jacket and ripped jeans, her hair a mess, reeking of the sour smell of cheap whiskey from the previous night.
She stood in front of the huge Homelander sculpture in the center of the hall, her face a complex mix of emotions.
"Fuck," she muttered under her breath.
She hates this place, she hates everything about it.
She didn't fit in here.
Everyone around, from the receptionist to the security guards, looked like they'd been torn from the pages of a fashion magazine; their smiles were perfect and they were highly trained.
"Ma'am? Do you have an appointment?"
"I'm looking for Homelander!"
Jessica slammed the black "V" sign onto the front desk with a "thud".
Ten minutes later.
Top floor office.
Wu Yanzu stood with his back to her in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling window.
He wasn't wearing a uniform.
He was wearing a bespoke Italian suit, and his blond hair was meticulously combed.
From this perspective, he doesn't look like a hero, but rather a Wall Street bastard.
"Jessica Jones," he began, his voice calm, "you look... terrible."
"Likewise." Jessica put her hands in her pockets and rubbed the mud off her feet on the expensive Persian rug. "Your hair looks like it was licked by a dog, or maybe a golden retriever."
Wu Yanzu slowly turned around.
groove……
Jessica has to admit that this guy's "skin" is indeed a masterpiece of God.
That face, a blend of holiness and arrogance, was even more damn glaring than on TV.
"Did you come here to criticize my hairstyle?" Wu Yanzu asked with a smile as he walked towards her.
“I’m here because I heard you’re going to start a ‘Super Circus’... I wanted to ask if you might need a ticket seller.”
"The Super Seven," Wu Yanzu corrected her, his voice not loud, but full of pressure.
He got very close.
too close.
Jessica could even smell the scent of his shower gel. This made her cheeks flush slightly.
"Why do you think I need you?" Wu Yanzu leaned forward slightly, his height casting a huge shadow in the room.
"Because I can unscrew a person's head like a bottle cap," Jessica glared at him defiantly. "And you... you need someone who can do the dirty work. A 'perfect hero' like you can't get your hands dirty, right?"
"ha."
Wu Yanzu smiled.
"Jessica...Jessica..." He shook his head, as if looking at a child who didn't understand.
Do you think what I need is 'power'?
He stretched out his hand.
Jessica instinctively took a step back and assumed a fighting stance.
But his hand merely brushed lightly across her shoulder, picking up a small piece of peanut crumb from her hair.
"I don't need power. Jessica, I have plenty of power."
He slowly... lifted both feet off the ground.
He hovered in front of Jessica, looking down at her.
"Jessica Jones, 24, a car accident survivor, orphaned. Possesses superhuman strength and physical resilience. Suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and moderate alcohol dependence."
"You..." Jessica's expression turned somewhat unpleasant.
"I can see every hidden injury on your body, I can see your liver, slightly swollen from being soaked in alcohol. I can see your... fear."
"You bastard!!" Jessica roared, her shame and fear driving her to throw a powerful punch!
She used all her strength in that punch!
"Bang--!!!"
Wu Yanzu raised one hand and casually grasped her fist.
Jessica's fist, powerful enough to pierce a wall, remained perfectly still, enveloped in his palm.
"No, Jessica." Wu Yanzu landed slowly, still holding her hand. "You're not afraid of me."
"You're afraid of yourself."
"Shut up!!!" Jessica tried to pull her hand away, but it was as if it had been welded shut.
"You're afraid of that feeling of powerlessness. Kilgrave was the first, but he won't be the last. This world is darker than you think, Jessica. Without me... you're just a freak struggling in the dark."
"You're more afraid...you're still that useless little girl who can only watch her family die."
"I—told—you—to—shut—up!!!"
Jessica grabbed a brass ornament from the desk with her other hand and smashed it hard against Wu Yanzu's head!
"Snapped!"
The ornament shattered into several pieces on his head.
Wu Yanzu didn't even blink.
He released Jessica's hand.
Jessica, panting heavily, retreated to the corner like a trapped beast.
"Fuck you!!" She cried, and it took her a full ten minutes to calm down.
Wu Yanzu straightened his tie. "Finished venting?"
"..." Jessica wiped away her tears with the back of her hand, feeling only numbness.
"Look." Wu Yanzu transformed back into the "charismatic" Antony Starr.
He walked to the liquor cabinet and poured himself a glass of whiskey.
"You now have two choices, darling."
He handed the glass to Jessica. She took it and gulped it down like water.
"First, you walk out of this building, go back to your doghouse, and continue being your 'Hell's Kitchen vigilante,' drinking your damn cheap liquor. Then, one day, you might run into the next Kilgrave. Or worse, you get caught by S.H.I.E.L.D., by the military, and they dissect you to study why you can jump so high."
"..."
"two."
Wu Yanzu walked back to the window and opened his arms.
"Join me."
"I'll give you...everything."
"Walter's PR team will mold you into a hero. Not the kind of street hero who fights and brawls, but the kind of hero... people will scream for you, buy your dolls, and put your posters on their beds."
"I'll also give you money, and you'll have an endless supply of top-quality whiskey for the rest of your life."
"Most importantly..."
He turned around, his azure eyes gleaming with a light that Jessica couldn't understand, yet was inexplicably drawn to.
"I can give you approval and...love!"
"Love?" Jessica was stunned.
"Don't you want to be loved by everyone?"
"I..." Jessica's voice was hoarse, "I fucking... hate you."
"I know," Wu Yanzu smiled even more broadly, "This is a good start."
"I fucking...hate that name."
"Which one?"
"Jones... Queen," Jessica gritted her teeth. "It's as stupid as a stripper's stage name."
"Oh, no, no, no." Wu Yanzu shook his finger. "You're wrong, Jessica. It's a... wonderful name."
"It represents power, independence, and rebelliousness. And of course, it sounds sexy too."
"You'll get used to it."
